you're actually a sheep for loving anything that has a tool logo stamped on it. This cd is by far their most regressive.

No if anything you're a sheep for thinking, along with the rest of the forum, that there is an ounce of genius or an inspired moment or two on the pile of shit that is 10K Days.

nope. it's tool being tool. and the being part is a pretty substantial one. the 'advance', if you want to look at it that way, i'd say is in the rhythm interplay. it's nothing revloutionary, but still a step forward for them. oh and wings for marie/10kdays deserves a whole album onto itself, but that's just my petty opinion.

you were expecting a grand slam and they gave you a home run. home runs can still win the game though. i hate baseball. i am lame for this analogy.

i honestly feel bad for people who can't appreciate this music.

expectation is a prison. (sex)

What if Tool's attempt to create new material and present it wasn't in the form of 10000 days. being as how everyone (nearly/some) view this as filler, what if they haven't recorded the new material, but instead are just going to play it live.

Everyone goes expecting these songs, and some old ones, but instead you get a bunch of awesome music you haven't heard yet.

I dont really think that it's the case, but my mind was meandering today, and I thought it would be a clever idea..

:)

Take care guys.

RS's lyrics are a joke. They are laughably stupid, contrived, just plain dumb. Lateralus' (while arguably over-pretentious), flow with the song, seem to have an actual deep meaning of some sort, rather than just describe some anguished state of angst and drugginess

In honor of your avatar bluefire, I'm gonna proclaim that "Wings/Days" is Tool's "Stairway".

Oh yeah..... "Echoes", too. =P

You are using Sgt. Pepper as your avatar. Don't you see the parallels?

it seems to be more of a cynical lamentation that this guy has been given the key, the message to save humanity. He is, in effect, a rosetta stone and has lost the key due to the fact he is so pathetic. it isnt supposed to be like lateralus, it sounds nothing like lateralus, it has more of a link to the cynicism of AEnima than anything to do with lateralus other than Faiip de Oiad

"God Damn, Shit the bed"

In context to the song? Perhaps (But just a theory from one who hasn't taken the time to examine the full thread above) in reference to the characters' unability to control his mind or body, after using acid/LSD (Whichever drug he might be on, both, if we are to suspect that this song perhaps is in context to the "overuse of drugs is bad" definition)

While perhaps it may not be elloquantly put, or as seemingly deep as "eleven she is gone" or "step in through my shadow", or even "saturn comes back around, to show you everything" etc.. (you get the point), it does serve it's purpose; as one view's Lateralus as a "deep" album, causing you to explore the depths of your mind, soul, and dictionary, 10000 Days seems more... "to the point" (regurgitated analogy, i know... ) But in all honesty, the line, and the song in itself represents a more "Sarcastic" view on Tool wishes to present. And I, infact, like it.

Not everyone "Gets" Monty Python, or Mitch Hedberg. Not everyone understands Aqua Teen Hungerforce, or Family Guy. Not Everyone can grasp Voltaire, or Shakespeare; Yet each have displayed an immense sense of sarcasm. While this would be more along the typical lines of Poe coming out and writing something sarcastic and colloquial, one could understand that upon being driven to the point of anger and indifference, the "author" (tool) wish to express their point more bluntly.

We've all read maynards supposed views on 10000 days. He is "pissed" that people arent listening. So my guess is these pruported lines, which may not seem epic in the Pushit/Third Eye/Undertow/Lateralus sense, are infact, very astout social commentary about today's culture.

Just my random opinion. Feel free to bash, and I will smile back and say hi :)

Re: 10K Days SUCCEEDS!

It's my form of social commentary. Would you prefer another lyric?

10,000 Days is basically like a pile of Tool cliches, but it's not even the good cliches! Instead of sprawling epics that completely deliver, we get a couple of half-assed angry ramblings with some "spiritual" overtones tossed in for good measure, and a couple of lame joke tracks. Listening to Rosetta Stoned is like hearing your friend's shitty band who worship Tool rip off Third Eye. Same with Intension and Right in Two (with Reflection).
It's official that Tool have jumped the shark completely now. This album is so bad it makes me have a hard time listening to Lateralus, knowing that it's by the same band.

Have fun, fanbois

What the f??k did you expect?!
This is their greatest work yet!!!
Lateralus sucked ass compared to this album.

Now take the obvious, and look beyond it. You are right, it isnt deep in a "storyboard" sense. But what is trying to be said here? What about society as a whole? Who does the doctor represent, the nurse? Is it all Causality, or does the inability to control his mind and body represent a failing in today's society due to our unwillingness to escape our own addictions. What is the point? Because believe me, there is one.

Or dont believe me :) I love opinionated conversations. Because everyone gets a say! I respect yours, and hope that by sharing with eachother, we can see more of the world through the eyes of another (vicariously i watch... hmm. no. too obvious)

I agree with those that say Third Eye is not that good. It really isn't. Honestly. What is so spectacular about it? My favourite part of the song are those guitar chords played right before the "Dreaming of that face again..." bit. That's a brilliant little riff and I wish they used it more. The rest of the song is forgettable. Aenima is MUCH better than Third Eye.

Whoever said Rosetta Stoned lyrics are "contrived" clearly does not know what the word means. RS lyrics give the impression of an unfocussed, stream-of-consciousness rant. That's hardly contrived.

Edit: Hear, hear bluefire! I hate Tool fans too.

I'm not comparing the song to Shakespeare, I was merely comparing one artist to another.

Had I said something along the lines of Rosetta Stoned is like A midsummernights Dream... wait.. hmmm.

Well anyways, I didnt say that, I meant more that the tools which an author/artist uses can fall in various categories, such as emotion, sarcasm, horror, etc.. genre's of many variety;

Tool happened to use a different approach to identifiying something that they feel is an important issue to address.

Or perhaps it is, just a song, about a guy, who trips on LSD and forgets his pen.

MJK's qoute at the entrance to Tool Navy allows us the freedom to interpret the song as we see fit, and allow it into our mind's in any way we wish, whether it be from a mere musical standpoint, to social commentary, or the choice not to listen to it ever again.

Personally, I love the album, and don't really understand what all of the complaining is about, but hey each to their own... All I'm saying is that if you dislike it, perhaps you might be able to illustrate why in more literate fashion than what that guy did.
