Yeah absolutely. Ticks and Leeches is a great one to play really loud. The first one's I learned myself were Cold and Ugly, Jerk-off and Part of Me. All great with about 100watts behind you.
Out of curiosity which song do you think turns heads the quickest in guitar shops?

Yeh.
Eon Blue is one of those fun little guitar riffs that you cant help but play every time you pick up the guitar... very nice.
Try picking up a les paul and play "jessica" the live version by allman brothers.. that gathers a crowd.. but after about 10 minutes the guy behind the desk wants to put the gibson back behind the counter.. teehee..
but refering to tool..
id say merkaba or third eye.. not enough knowing how to make the scratch, but actually fitting it to a melody is always nice..
peace!
i'm down with the paranoid android. though its not really a head turner. however, i don't exactly know what is, as i tend to just make my own kind of noise in a shop and play what feels natural on the particular guitar i'm holding. fuck yeah on eon blue though. simple and elegant, its one of my fav's on latty.
I Have to say the first riff in third eye with the hand massager thing, having played this on a 1974 les paul in a guitar store and blowing a tube stack amp it was bound to turn everybodies heads. The Patient would turn my head though.
i think that the schism main riff played fast as hell always turns heads.
i cant play it that fast but i try.
Classical gas usually makes people go wild
Stairway...think its boring but when u play the solo people get interested (like the only compleate solo i can play)

l think the beginning of Prison Sex was a head turner for me...l love the guitar in that, and when Undertow is played extremely fast.

i don't visit guitar shops often, the ones in NZ are quite small with only a handful in at a time but i've had good reactions with any metallica and iron maiden songs. not blues though and not stairway to common. Someone should crank out yngwie malmsteen that would turn a few heads i rekon
When I was buying my distortion, wah, and delay, I just played some random speed metal notes, palm mutes, power chords, palm mutes, low D string craziness, then pick scratched and tapped (high pitched little chirps) and some Air Force guy thought I was neat. I promptly bought the said items and left.
At home, to warm up, I play my hour long Rock Opera version of Sober. And no one cares.
I've gotten responses when playing Jambi in guitar shops, either from people who knew the tune or were curious about the opening riff. Schism is one a LOT of people recognize. There's a shop in town with the same guitar (to the year) that Adam plays, and I go in there and fiddle around with it sometimes. The guy who took it down the first time I went in said, "So let me guess, you're a Tool fan, right?" Still dreaming of going in there one day with my savings and picking it up...

In all seriousness, though, it's an '82. The guys there call it an "avocado burst" because of its' coloration at this point! Love playing that thing, it's a fucking brick, and I have two solid mahogany-bodied guitars at home.

You and me both, bud! How long have you been playing?
Here is my video of me playing one of their most recent jams in the middle of Opiate. For some reason I'm lacking in uploads on that channel, but I'll have to work on some more. For some reason any of my uploaded videos get this awful pixelated sound to their audio, I have no idea how to fix that and it is very upsetting :(

Very cool! I've been playing since I was 11, so almost 9 years now. I was self-taught for the first few years and so technically speaking I am behind others, but I really do enjoy playing. I'd be happy to compare notes on Tool tunes sometime! Just PM me :)
Thanks! I have another video outlining some of his common riffs on that channel, if you're interested.

Me to!
I would say I am definitely behind in some cases.
I've seen people who have played guitar for three months and they shred...I'm all over here like...umm...I can play Stinkfist..o.o
