Originally posted by semyeotic ænima, or ænema, i think, is meant to invoke both of the words anemia and enema - a general societal thinning that needs a good flushing away?
The word is "anima" not "aneimia". Anima is the feminine spirit in some African(?) religion. Animus is the male.
Anemia is a disease that has to do with a lack of iron in your body...this has nothing to do with the album.
What I think the enema/anima combination means is that the themes of the album entail getting to better know yourself(getting in touch with your "anima") and at the same time, ridding yourself of all the evil and needless things(flushing them out, thru an "enema").
Thats how I see it, hope it helps

Ænima (alt + 146) or however is the combination of the words Anima (the soul) and Enema (the injection of fluid into the rectum through the anus for cleasing...or what have you).
And the significance of it is...its just a combination of the two words. Another one of the many words Tool has made up.
