I wouldn't worry too much. if you get a seat it just becomes a free for all and everyone runs down the front anyways - well they did the last tool show and when i went to see massive attack at the start of the year. good lucks anyways. will be trying for a block of seats monday for friends(note to self do not hit refresh - remain calm ;-)
Just bought a Lawn ticket :) So if it's a free for all and i don't get down to the seats, is the lawn still a good spot to view the show? I have no idea never been to the myer bowl before...
the lawn isn't that bad. Just get there a bit early and at the lower end near the rear of the seats. It will be pretty packed down there but the view will be ok.
no unfortunately the seats and lawn are separate. as half said best to get their a little early cause it gets packed back on the lawn.
In 07, got there at midday, had a nice little picnic outside, and waited for gates to open. When they did, ran right to the front of the barricade standing area, so had a great view, just a few meters behind the seats.
Oh yeah, forgot to add, another advantage of getting there earlier is hearing the band soudcheck at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, clear as day as it's all open air... Was very cool.
So pack the cards, take a magazine or two, and head out to the bowl early, and wait patiently outside, and you'll be sweet!
Forget previous post. What i want to know is, the stalls and boxes are sold out for the presale, but will more stall and box seats become available when it goes on sale to the general public on the 8th???
There will definitely be tickets available in all areas on Monday. You will need to be quick though as they will sell fast. I'd recommend getting to a ticketmaster outlet as it is faster than the internet if you are first in line. The perfect scenario would be if you had a friend in Sydney who could go to a ticketmaster for you up there. There will be no one lining up in Sydney so they should be first in line. That was going to be my plan until I got seats in the pre-sale.
OK, so I work in a shop, sat here for 25 minutes waiting for the 12:30 pre-sale, then the second it rolls around, Ticketek crashes, and 5 customers walk in wanting to ask... QUESTIONS, then when that was done, there's a rep here trying to get me to use his company for calligraphy goods, I felt as though I was going to have a fucking heart attack, finally it quietens down, and, amazingly, i got my tickets so its all good now!

Glad to hear it... Yeah, a supplier rep stopped by right before midday here, palmed him off to my 2IC.
But the ticketek presale had tickets available in all categories over an hour and a half after it started amazingly!
Question for all who got seat tickets around 1:20pm. Which section are your seats located in? I got a seat in row P in the right section. If every one else is also in the same section then maybe the center section is reserved for the general sale on Monday. Just trying to work out if its worth trying to get better seats on Monday.

I got row U, left section at arond 1.23pm. Good friend got Row V, left section about 2 minutes later.
My theory was all the seats available in the presale were leftblocks, as I hadn't seen any on the right or center... I was thinking all the right blocks were being held back for the main sale. Hmm... Anyone get center block?
PPS - I'd be content with row P just quietly mate.
Though, no harm in trying, I guess, and then selling the P's at cost price if you somehow manage to get through with more seats. But I'd be tempted to just leave it and let everyone who missed out get as clear a shot as possible.

Yay for typos, I have Row J in the right section(not row P), I have row P in the center section as well. One ticket for each. The row P ticket I got with the tickmaster presale and the row J ticket with the tool army presale.

Thats a much better map of seats by the way.
So so far no one in the front center section.
I got row j-stoked :) do you think brisbane will sell out?
row j is sweet(that's where i am!) funnily enough I had the same row when I went to see massive attack - they were great seats - but if it's like last time everyone pretty much runs to the front. so you've got the choice of seat or up close and personal. it beats the hill.
Is the stage at all visible from the lawn, would you be able to make out the band? Who's been to the Myer Bowl before?
From what I hear from a dude who went last year, the lawn is ok, but you need to get there early to get a decent spot. If you're near the back it sucks, but if you're up the front it's not really too bad.
But the ticketek presale had tickets available in all categories over an hour and a half after it started amazingly!
I clearly over-estimated the demand, or, more likely, the demand is there but only total geeks found out about the pre-sale.

Near the front is really quite decent. Get to the venue early if possible to maximise this. Take the day off work, Get there 2 plus hours early with a book and an ipod, and you'll be more then sweet.

Blair updated the Presale post on Tool Army this morning, with this:
—
NOTE: I’ve received email from fans who claimed they has problems with the password. I’m not sure why this happened, but I copied (cut and paste) the links and password EXACTLY as they were sent to me by the promoter. Hopefully things got straightened out.
—
So to recap, seems promoter (Lees and West) fucked up the info to Blair, then Ticketmaster further humped the bunk by merging the presales and telling no one.
Seems unfair people have been blaming Blair for this. TA has it's share of problems, but hardly Blairs fault he gave us faulty info verbatim.
I clearly over-estimated the demand, or, more likely, the demand is there but only total geeks found out about the pre-sale.
There really was very little outside info about the presale, and seems Melbourne is the destination of choice for most other Tool fans in Australia (Closer for Adelaide and Perth, and for Sydney folk, much of a muchness travel time, so if only doing one then Melbourne is more appealing... Sorry Brisbanians, the truth hurts, but you are a town masquerading as a city, and apart from Blue Smoke there's nothing worthwhile up there!)

I still think tickets will sell out for Melbourne pretty quick on Monday.
Without a shadow of a doubt. I'd be lining up people, and who said if possible recruit a friend from Sydney to queue up in front of a Ticketmaster up here had the right idea also.
There's almost certainly some seating left, and it will certainly go in seconds, primarilly to whoever is at the front of each line.

He didn't say anything. Having said that, it's an outdoor venue, which would suggest the sound can be affected by many factors, while at the same time it's a music bowl, so it should sound reasonable.
As with any outdoor venue, no doubt the further back you are, the worse the sound gets.

The music bowl is a crap venue for atmosphere. Sound is ok if you are in the seats. It's just a shame that the tennis is on otherwise they would use Rod Laver.
If you have a choice of venue I would go for the Brisbane show. Small indoor arena will be much better.

Well you've got me there I guess. Is Blue Smoke that place where you eat slabs of beast with your hands?

"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
I wonder what the encore will be for the Thirteenth Step shows. Diary of a Love Song, Ashes to Ashes, and Imagine is a horrible encore IMO, I don't like any of those songs.

i was there... hopefully tonight we'll get a new song for the encore. fingers crossed!
There are almost no clips from the Tempe MDN show up on Youtube. Security must have been nuts. Thats the downside to having a tour comprised of nothing but small club dates.
Well, you guys better post when you get home. I don't want to have to find out the next day from a journalist who says "there were a few jammy excursions here and there."
I like the photos though, I wish I could get a photo pass

Get this, they handed out a fucking disclaimer with your parking pass. The first line said something like, "Treat this event as if it were a ballet or film." Also said you'd be ejected if you got caught filming or photographing and that whatever was confiscated will not be returned. Super ridiculous. The funny thing is, after all that, it was the least thorough pat down I've ever had at that venue.
Here was my mini-review w/ a stolen pic from the blog =)

How do they get away with keeping your property when they confiscate it and not giving it back after the show? Isnt that tantamount to theft?
I get that people in the theatre are subject to their rules but you would think they are requried by law to oblige if someone attempts to get their camera back after the event... idk.
"Before Ashes to Ashes Billy said that he always forgets/messes up a particular chord in that song so if they stopped, that was why. He then concentrates and begins the intro. As he's getting into it, Maynard says, "Stop, Billy, stop. Wait. Wait. Wait." Billy stops and looks at Maynard, and then Maynard says, "Aw, shit. I forgot what I was going to say. Go ahead and start the song over." It was lulzy."
