About 100% certain of the whispers in the beginning now...

I saw a thread here a while ago regarding the whispers in the beginning of the song.

I downloaded a bootleg of 46&2 from DOS.net that was recorded at Ettelbruck. Maynard says quite clearly in the beginning -

"Join in. Join in my child.
while my shadow moves
closer then farther away from me."

I am about 100% sure these are the words MJK is saying. I can't say for sure whether they are the same in the studio version..but I'll wager a pretty penny that these are the words he is whispering.

Download the bootleg! Ettelbruck, LU. www.deadohiosky.net

(I think its down right now, I hope to see it back up soon.)

:)

This may be accurate...

I read what you had written about the whispers at the beginning of Forty Six + 2 and since it's my favorite TOOL song, I wanted to check for myself. I seem to have found a discrepancy though. I have a live mp3 version, and a different live version on cd from Paris, and when I plugged the tracks into WinAmp, tinkered with the EQ, dropped all but 3k, and 12k, to the bottom, raised those two, lowered the preamp to -20db, and turned the bass down on my speakers to drop the low end, I heard Maynard saying:

Join in my,
Join in my child (while my),
Shadow moves,
Closer to my fool memory.

Now the 'while my' was whispered softly, and the 'fool' could also be 'full'...only a handfull of people know for sure..and I'm not one of them.

digging through,
(something about a shadow)

From my old and trusty list of Tool whisperings:

Join in my
Join in my child and listen
I'm digging through
My old numb shadow

Try this:

Join in my child
Join in my child as
My shadow moves
Closer to me now

I agree completely with Chris_Brightwell, if you listen carefully, he clearly says:

Join in my
Join in my child and listen
I'm digging through
My old numb shadow
