The many layers of intension, lots of electronic influence. Does anyone else feel this could be the song that is a preview of whats to come on the next album. Similar to how reflection was to 10,000 days, and flood was for aenima? lateralus I feel stands on its own, not pulling much from aenima in my opinion? Plant a seed and hope it grows.

Good theory, I personally don't understand why so many people hate "Intension". Its one of my favourite tracks. It could be seen as a preview or as the sigh of relief from the album.

Intension is unquestionably my least favorite "real" song on the album. And it's not even close.

In my book it is a real song...do fillers have words?
It IS this albums tribute to D/R/T.

I don't see the connection between Reflection and TTD.
But it woukd be cool if the next album would be more like Intension.

It has been pointed out that Third Eye is the Aenima to Lateralus bridge if that's what you're looking for.

While I doubt Intension will be a theme or sound of the next album, I do like the song. But in the same way as Wings for Marie/10,000 Days, I need to be in a certain frame of mind. Whereas I have no problem flipping on Jambi or Rosetta Stoned even if I'm doing something else and not particularly attentive, Intension takes a lot of focus for me to enjoy.

such a cool drum part too the song...

what other drummer in music could pull off anything like that? SOmething so seamless that fits the song...not just mindless wanking but tasteful and melodic...just amazing.

Surprised at how many people cannot appreciate this song. And this popular theory that each Tool album is based on a song from the previous albums is bullshit. There is no 'Reflection' esque anything in 10,000 days, no 'Flood' sounding or similar thematic elements in aenema, and honestly all those force-to-fit song theories only started because third eye happens to be a metaphysical close to an album that preceded the most metaphysical tool album, Lateralus. If it weren't for that the theory wouldn't exist.

So no, Intension isn't a precedent of the sounds to come or any of that shit. It's a very experimental yet beautiful song with a responsibility on the album similar to Disposition. It's a nice slow atmospheric piece. Now go eat some acid.

intension and acid was what made me first love the song. There are some increbile low db beats happening with wild levels. The guitar at the end and the almost meditative bass in the beginning also make it as possibly tool's most unique song.

Shane took acid on Degrassi Jr High, and jumped off a bridge.. so be careful.

Since Danny had a hand in the technology of the Mandala Pads, there's no doubt he'll use them more and more. But, he's been doing electronics for a fair while, so I don't think the band's sound will change too much.

Maybe we should discuss Adam tuning to Drop D... let's change key for the next one guys! </jokes>

Most Tool stuff takes a while to grow, and I'm always LAUGHING at the impatience on this forum, since the albums only been around for a couple of months. Let it sit!

The connection I feel...

I feel that you can connect Lateralus and 10,000 Days by Vicarious, thats the link for me, and for myself I hope that the next album musically is more like wings for marie and 10,000 Days, it was so hard to me to snap into it then I read the lyrics listened and listened then it clicked good music, good emotion and I think that something sorta obvious to me is that they're dabbling and background sounds and ambiances, which make good soundscapes, so if you go deeper in that for the next album, ...well makes me drool thinkin about it.

Do you think Tool will want to make another album after the Tour is over? They are older and seem a little less determined....But, the leading song, getting on point, from intension seem's like an end song luring the idea of the 'next album', if you want to think, and sort of cradling the possibility of all th other albums as well....You make it seem like a pattern....Intension is actually a very intricate song, one that fits on the album perfectly, and raises the spirit of the album towards the ending, bringing comfort of the imobile grunge towards the first few songs....every song from Tool is placed in order and is made for a specific reason, not just to finish an album...

And one of the neatest things about the song is the ending, because i had people saying " Oh, that sound was made from a lab in the studio..." or " Oh, they have a d-j in the backround making that soung..." when really, those fast beats were Danny Carey and his 'modern' electronic drum set....if you realize hos hard it is to play that fat and math sounds completely perfect like that, it is one of the hardest things...i play guitar but, my friend tried it, when i went to get some strings, on some electric dums for display and he couldn't even match the speed and technique.....it's that kind of thing you look for in Tool songs to even better appreciate them, instead of just the lyrics....

I never understood where people got the idea of the last song hinting at the next album.
