Actually, fuck it, I give up on this, Maynard's taking the piss with this vocal performance. I'm sure he sings the wrong words all over the place because live he sings "sow the cradle", which makes perfect sense, but in this song it's definately "snow the cradle", which makes NO sense.
FUCK YOU JIMMY!
:D
Edit: Actually, ignore this, it could be snow live too, still no idea what it means exactly, I must go look up the definition of snow.
Edit 2: And having done that, it could mean "draw on past arguments to defeat any new argument."

Anyone else agree around the 3 minute mark he says "High...eye" instead of a double of either of those words?

Very end of song...several posts stating "...fatty finger".
Sounds like "...vile finger" or possibly even "vile fingers" to me.

Yes. It is "...high, eye". You can hear it very clear.

Nope. :o)
Listen close. With the attitude of the song, you can hear him say "Ganja, puh-lease! You must have been out your mind!"
He is calling someone "high" in the whole song. High meaning "nuts" or "crazy". So at the end, he says "Ganja? Please!" in a way that says "Ganja? Spare me!"
Haven't you ever heard someone say "Puh-lease! Give me a break!"?

I agree with some in saying it's
Ganja? Please! You must have been out your mind.
Albeit the context looks shady now as it doesn't necessarily fit. Thoughts on the disagreement of Gangja Please with the rest of the song?
ps. It's more of a Ganja....? Please! *NOT ASKING FOR POT* Rather, questioning it's usage.

I completely agree man.
What we should do is this...Trash this thread, start a new one, and title it:
"IT'S NOT FUCKING HAIR, OR FOIL, OR VOYEUR, OR KING GURU, OR GOLDEN IMAGES!!!!! (and no opinions on lyrics from people whose screenname is an incorrect lyric! "ATROPHY ANNIE")
Oh yeah...and if you don't get the black kettle / the pot thing....Just log out and go read something.
I'm really not some dickhead, but I swear...Some of you HAVE TO be retarded.
(i feel much better)

I like the idea of Kangaroos and it seems logical with the monkey, animal theme, but part of me wants to believe that he didn't throw kangaroo out there. I swear that sometimes I hear, Kingdom ruled and hung the guilty with the innocent.

Shit, man....here it is:
Lemon juice. Yes, because that's a figure of speech for crocodile tears...or using something to artificially provoke tears.
Kangaroo, because there is a figure of speech about "Kangaroo courts"...basically, a court where there is no fucking justice and the judge is an idiot, etc, etc.....just think OJ Simpson...or better still, the Simpsons...just think of a typical town meeting in any episode of the Simpsons....

Just wanted to throw my two cents in.
I'm gonna have to go with the Lemon Juice side of the argument.
Can anyone explain to me what "...shades of chosen indigo" is supposed to mean?
The whole "Ganja please/Ganja Police" thing has got to go. People see "The Pot" and automatically assume the songs about marijuana. Personally, I can't tell you what he's saying, nor what I think it is, although I am pretty sure that the second word, the one everyone is assuming is "please" or "police" should rhyme closer to "mind." I'm thinking something about "lies" or "eyes."

No ganja at the end, but reefer still stays in the middle?
To me, I can clearly here him say:
"Steal, borow, reefer,
Save your shady inference."
So there he mentions reefer - a reference to pot.
I also clearly hear:
"Ganja ...
You must have been out your mind!"
I think it is "Ganja? Please! You must have been out your mind!"
The marijuana reference doesn't surprise me. The song is called 'The Pot' and it does makes references to marijuana.

I already posted this but I'll say it again.
At Coachella and Seattle, Maynard sang 'Ganja plea' (or perhaps play).. I think on the album it's 'Ganja pleas', but live he's just been singing plea.

I'm sorry, I'm part of the "Steal, Borrow, Reaper, Savior. Shady Inference" party
The title of The Pot, I believe, refers more to the black kettle, than marijuana.
I believe someone said it best that if you've never heard the saying "The Pot calling The Kettle black," you need to get off the internet and read something.

Probably gonna catch a lot of shit for this, but I'm hearing these:
"Out your head"
"Snow the cradle"
"Cards and glass", etc., etc.
To my point on these. How can you be out of your hair? Explain that, someone! 'Cause you can be out of your head, sure.
Robbing the crave is easy; snowing the cradle? Is that like covering up the cradle? Someone wanna help with that?
You can have a house of cards and a house of glass, so I really don't think it's cause (What would a house of cause look like?). "Soapbox" I think refers to that it was shoddily built (Like when you make a soapbox racecar and you know that it sucks? xD).
I'm also seeing things in the lyrics that are wrong that are being posted; for instance:
"...'Til you pull it out, boy"
That 'boy' should be here,
"...'Til you pull it out.
Boy, you must've been so high..."
--just for the sake of sense. Just some thoughts.

I agree this song has nothing to do with Marijuana. That's the reason behind "Ganja Please, you must have been out of your mind" He's clearing up the misconception about this being a giant pot reference.

Wow, the utter stupidity overwhelms me with a sudden sense of apathy.... Doesn't anybody read any other posts before they post, how many times do we have to hear "Voyeur" or "Foil" or "Reefer" or "Young Bones Deep". Do you all have a different album than me?

This site has the lyrics to the third line of "The Pot" as being 'Eyehole deep in muddy waters'.
That's not it. It's 'I hold deep in muddy waters'
There's a similar lyric to this in some older rock song from I think the 70's, but I can't bring it to mind right now.

Yeah. I agree with all that posted before me saying it's "Piss all over my black halo". That's what I've been hearing since the first time I listened to the song.

First of all, who forces Maynard to sing a d in "head"? Many singers just let out letters. It's not "out your hair". Because later in the song he sings "You must have been out your mind". Mind is similar to head.
The lemon juice thing. I guess there's nothing to say here, if you own your own ears, you can listen and hear the word "lemon juice". No friggen golden images up in there.
The other thing are the "weeping shades of chosen indigo" which makes absolutely no sense and makes me mad everytime I read it. What I think he is singing is something maybe with "accusing" or what I liked best from you (later in the song) "Now will you weep or change the chosen into gold?". I once heard something with "change your clothes". Maybe "Now you weep and change your clothes in intervals". :D Anyways, we have to be patient and wait 'till Maynards version comes online, which of "The Grudge" has actually an error.

i am 99.9% sure the line (s) we are having trouble with is actually
Now will you weep or, chase the chosen into golden images up in your eye
i know contextually it doesnt make all that much sense - but in a few years we'll know and then laff that we made such weird assumptions

Nah. It does have to do with marijuana in subtle ways. You also may be right about 'The Pot' being the one that called the kettle black as well. Even if the he didn't say reefer at that one part, you can't dispute that he constantly says the person "the pot" is HIGH and out of their mind.

That 'boy' should be here,
"...'Til you pull it out.

i do not know what a house of cause would look like, but i believe a house of cause and glass would probably look like a house of glass, with a person in it, that has a cause, ie eulogy.
This song is the only one on the album where there are so many differing opinions. And with all logical sense, he is probably saying 'cards'; however, some one with a case usually has strong opinions (possibly judgements) so dont go tossin youre stones around. and no im not high
snow=deceive, cover, hide... in this instance
