every store recieves the albums some days before the release date. you only have to find the one that have it the earliest, and that doesn't care about release dates.

I don't care to read through your inane and dull witted replies. Is this or is this not the same as the leaked tracks. I haven't listend to any of them aside from that single.

But whit this 'shit the bed' business I was hoping they were fake.

HUM in Newtown (King Street) is selling 10,000 Days as of now. I just collected my copy and gave it a listen through.

In all I'm impressed, however I reflect Kabir's sentiments concerning this album being more of a meal than a proverbial snack. There's some definate stand-out tracks and a couple that lean towards Tool delving into what I see as their stab at experimentation. At least in comparison to Lateralus that seemed somewhat reserved in some places.

I'm very curious to see some of this album pulled off live. There's parts in there that for an accurate reflection of the album are going to require a second guitarist. Something Mr. Keenan I feel may not be up to the challenge given his preoccupation with vocals that don't exactly sit well if one were to be strumming a guitar and performing some peg-legged-ritualistic-chicken-dance that we all have grown to love.

Those who haven't exercised thievery and are curious to see how Vicarious stacks up against the rest of this opus are going to be a little thrown off. Its definately among the stand-out tracks. Not so much from an impressive perspective, but moreso from that of familiar style.

Nice work boys. Oh, and the sleeve gimmick made me grin also.

Cheese-alicious.

I believe you could safely assume most outlets will have it on shelves tomorrow. Either way, Utopia cracks open the case tomorrow for the kids who have permission to be up after midnight.

What was funny is that I've abstained from listening to any of the new album aside from Vicarious, and I walk into the store to pick my copy up with a friend. Low and behold, the lad is cranking it on the store's system, utterly destroying my virginal experience, or at least a few seconds of it.

Anyway. Time to familiarise ourselves with this new noise and gear up for the tours.

Perhan: Oh yes. He shreds it.

yes! i got mine from Hum this evening too! I went in after work and they had these little placeholders that said "take this to the counter to get your copy of Tool's new studio album, OUT NOW" and I said to the guy, "are you getting ready for the weekend?" and he shook his head and said "nah, it's for sale now!" i questioned whether they were allowed to do that, seeing as the official release date isn't til Saturday, and he just shrugged and said "i dunno, we got it in today, so why not?"

It's nice that you've "grown with the band" or whatever but that doesn't change the fact that 10,000 days sounds like a joke. It's so... lazy. It's like we get these 5 mind-blowing records, they talk the new one up in interviews like we're gonna get kicked in the teeth, and we get 7 loosly constructed songs that sound like B-sides.

You said "Great music does 2 things to me. 1: Puts an evil grin on my face. 2: Gives me goosebumps. 10,000 Days has done both of those things before the first song was half way over."

That's because you were still listening to Vicarious, which is exactly the kind of sound we have come to expect from this band. I'm talking about the rules, the same elements that have been in play throught the course of the bands career.

Go back, read interviews, listen to the old albums, and tell me where 10,000 days fits in with the progression.

I have not, by any stretch of the imagination, stopped liking Tool. I'm not gonna go on about how the band triggers things in my DNA and all that mushy love crap but let me say this: This band is capable of so much more, so if this record is the real deal and it's all we get after 5 years, know it's a conscious decision to let the fans down. *ducks* It's not arguable, the "tool community" or whatever is so divided right now. I keep saying there's all this controvery for a reason, and the reason is because the people who know the band the best are scratching their heads trying to figure out what happened in the last 5 years.
I don't mind this guy's point of view, it's his right to have it, but:

1) 10,000 Days does not sound like a joke to me.

2) It does not sound lazy; maybe I feel this way because I am a musician and perhaps I can appreciate the subtleties of what is going on a little better, I dont' know. But I definitely hear complex and challenging things going on.

3) I'm most certainly not WRONG for thinking this is not a lazy record.

4) No one should so pompously proclaim that 'people who know the band best' are wondering what the hell happened. VERY few of us 'know' the band, and I'm not gonna get chronological on you but I'm very familiar with this band's work and I find this to be a very accomplished piece of music that is in line with what they are capable of.

Like I said, I fully respect all of your opinions but seriously if anything IS wrong it's telling someone they are incorrect because they don't agree with you. Especially about music, which is by and large a subjective matter.

And as far as the DVD stuff, well, I thought they should have been sold together in a package, but they decided to do it another way, so why was that bullshit? They didn't advertise it as new stuff. It had a sticker on it that said new tool release coming in spring. And I dont' know about you but I enjoy watching schism and parabola in anamorphic widescreen video uncut.

a local record store here in jersey has decided to sell there copies early and i asked to look at the artwork for the new album.
let me tell you guys tool has outdid themselves this time completely
there are two lenses on the cd that let you look at various pictures on the booklet in 3d. i believe it says they are stereoscopic lenses. there are pictures of the band in and various peices of art from alex grey all in 3d. it is fuckin awesome.

on another note i have to get some money to go buy one now!!

they are bad ass if you look at them in a bright area - alot of depth and way cool imagery.

nice job.

watch that you don't scratch the case when cutting off the plastic. i was too eager and scratched the front. luckily i bought 2.

Yes, it sounds MUCH better than the leak, simply because it's not mp3. This is the best packaging I have ever seen!! I drove an hour to get it. Thank you Wupat for the "clues." I am fucking loving this disc! Can't wait to see them on the 17th. My wife is eventually going to throw me out for blasting so much Tool!

Unless it's new music, and different from the leak, I don't give a fuck.
