I believe that we are still waiting for the "wait for it" announcement. I've heard the date July 3rd being thrown around for the 'wait for it" announcement.

I really felt like this was the wait for it announcement because of the orange dot and BMB always writing Halloween posts in orange.

I'd agree, however Blair told me as far as he knows it's just one show.

2013 summer minnesota festival was one single show (no tour), and they had the full lighting/stage/visual in full force.

The festival sbows in Mexico were the catalyst for the last mini tour right? We'll see. Having in Zona keeps MJk close to the grapes. Be interesting if they work out any new material... in one form or another.

Is Coachella all it's cracked up to be any more? Personally I'd have thought s smaller scale festival like this one would be a better option than fighting the crowds at Coachella.

I dont know if it is. Ive only been once and that was for TOOL in 2006. ALTHOUGH I will have to say it was the best handled festival ive ever been to, especially considering how many people were there.

did a little bit of digging about this venue... apparently the capacity is only 5000 people. also, I am assuming it is all standing room GA only.

seems pretty intimate.

The best festivals I've been to have had less than 5000 attendees.

Coachella is awesome. One of the best produced festivals I've ever attended. Next year will be my 10th one. First was in 2006 to see Tool/Massive Attack. I have gone ever since and have never had anything less than a great time. The stages are easy to navigate between most days. The sound systems are excellent. Some of the bigger acts, Roger Waters, The Cure, Muse, really go all out with their shows there. This last time out, AC/DC destroyed. Some of the very best performances I've ever witnessed from artists I've seen multiple times have been at Coachella. An example would be Public Image Limited who played to a small crowd while Jay-Z was over on the main stage in 2010. I still cannot get that performance out of my head. It was jaw-dropping. And Refused's reunion set in 2012 was like a bomb going off. I had a bruise to the chin 10 seconds into that one. To top it off, GV introduced a craft beer tent in 2014 that is just one of the greatest things ever if you are a beer lover. Not only do some great local CA brewers turn out, but they actually rotate in special kegs periodically. I can't recommend it highly enough. Frankly, if Tool is in for '16, I will likely go both weekends this time around.

Btw, there's a couple of comments in the Tool thread on the Coachella forums from people who have been to this venue. Not trying to dissuade anyone from attending... it is Tool after all. But it doesn't sound all that wonderful

Coachella is indeed awesome but the line up has to be right for me to put up with the hipsters, heat and dust storms. My second one was my favorite so far. X into Turbonegro into Mastodon was redic. The fIREHOSE and Stone Roses reunions were killer too.

In my best Steve Martin Voice...

Sir? You are talking to a hipster!!!

Ok, an old one. But anyway, whatever. People are people. The kids can sometimes get a little outta hand at Coachella. I was off to the side of the Outdoor stage one year after Vampire Weekend had just played. A girl whose age I don't wanna guess came over dropped trow about 1' in front of me and took a leak. I was too dumbfounded to say much.

Oh, and I loved that Stone Roses reunion too!

So BMB posted the pic of Danny with Bob Ludwig on May 1st. If he was mastering some kind of release, I can't believe we have heard absolutely nothing about it almost 8 weeks later.

Something is going on, that question is what.

In a somewhat related note, I was reading an interview with Refused last night, who actively mislead friends, fans and even family members in order to record their latest album without external pressure. I'm not sure Tool have gone down this path, but it makes you wonder...

I really am starting to wonder. Would it be album art that is holding up release?

He's probably too busy with the Duran Duran tour to work on new lights for a one-off Tool show.

i do think tool is overdue for a new stage setup in general. i doubt it will happen for this show, but once the new album drops and they tour for that, I would be surprised if they don't radically change it up.

Interesting to see that the show has not yet sold out. As recently as last year, shows in 7,000 person venues such as Bill Graham in SF and the Reno Event Center seemed to be selling out in minutes. As far as I can tell, this venue is even smaller at 5,000 and is (so far) the only show of 2015. The guy who runs Tool's FB page even seems to be resorting to "get them before they're gone" sales tactics.

Of course, this show will eventually sell out, especially with Primus also on the bill, but the apparent decrease in enthusiasm by fans to grab tickets as quickly as possible may give some promoters pause in booking future shows without a new album to support. Perhaps this is a sign that the band can no longer rely on its fans to continue to shell out hard earned money to see the same old songs played for the umpteenth time. Hopefully this will serve as a wake-up call.

I'm not on the current Duran Duran tour.

Currently working on a movie that will be out next year (no, not a "Tool Movie").

I think the fact that it's not on ticketmaster probably makes a big deal. Tool are popular, and deserve to sell out shows, but I suspect there's a whole load of manipulation going on that makes them sell out quicker than they really should.

That said, it's in Arizona and it's a festival, which would also explain why ticket sales are slower than they would be in a larger population centre.

I think they will play new material I'm the form of jams, or Danny will do something new at least. They could release something before then. But given the track record it'll be the same old routine, lol. Probably just playing so primus isn't alone.

Who's all going? I just bought a ticket and I'll either fly down from Minnesota, or sell it. Not sure, but figured I'd better grab one up since this may be their only show in 2015.

Pic of venue from above. Scroll down past the first set of pics in thread to see what it looks like with a crowd. It's in the coachella thread, but it's a shot of Tempe Beach Park

It's going to be awesome! Maybe those UFO's from Kansas will make an appearance? Good call on the capacity.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/music/2015/03/08/music-festivals-rise-metro-phoenix/24451015/

As to whether the Valley could support a destination festival on the scale of Coachella, LaPenna says, "I would hope so but we do not have a venue site that can stage such a large-scale event. All of those sites hold 50,000-60,000-plus people per day plus have facilities in place for food, vendors, art installations, etc. Tempe Beach Park is 20,000 capacity."

20,000 seems pretty optimistic from the looks of those photos.

Yeah, judging from those pics and looking at the place on a map, I'd guess there'll be around 10,000 for the Tool show.
