I have to say that looking back on my own personal attempt, I'm not too impressed.. I didn't do myself justice at all. I don't sing tenor. I'm a mid to high baritone, and I don't sound like Maynard at all. You can tell by the way I sang mine that I don't sing rock music.. I do a lot more art music.. classical and baroque stuff. Most of the other attempts have been pretty good though, so keep it up!

Not bad... a bit too much melodic nuance at times, but it seems like the intro is right within your passagio (look that up if you don't know what it means).

Passagio is the point in which the male voice shifts from the modal (yet another annoying musical homonym) register to the falsetto register... it usually signifies the peak of the male vocal range.

yeah falsetto doesnt count when dealing with the passagio... its a completely different vocal register.... Most of the time in rock music falsetto is covered up with vocal effects and whatnot, mostly because it kind of sounds... girly.... and that just doesn't really fit rock music too well.

Ideally the male vocalist should strive for a vocal mix.. which is a blend of modal and falsetto... it takes a LOT of practice to do, and its not easy to acquire.. I can only do it every now and then, and I CERTAINLY cant do it when singing rock music.

My vocal professor and I have actually been honing on vocal mixes a lot lately.. its important to have.

Listen to Coheed and Cambria for some bitchin falsetto that fits the music well.

I've heard 2 of their albums... my ex-girlfriend was a Coheed and Cambria fanatic... (She named her damn puppy Cambria, for christs sake), and none of it ever compelled me. It seemed emotionless.

I heard In Keeping Secrets blah blah blah... and Good Apollo blah blah blah...

those are their two worst albums. Yeah, they've got good songs... but those albums are like... 10,000 Days vs. Ænima.

Also keep in mind that I'm not terribly into modern rock music anymore, either... The only reason I like the bands I like is because I liked them before I got into college... Since then I've become obsessed with Ralph Vaughn-Williams, Beethoven, Rachmoninoff, Morten Lauridsen, Handel, Norman Dello Joio, Ivan Hrusovsky, etc. etc...

Its hard for me to get into modern music these days, so consider my opinion a little biased.

their shit has to be given time to grow on you more than tool, I think.

there's not much buildup/climax in their songs at all, so the first few times through their albums I thought they were pretty emotionless as well.
I didn't care for the dude's voice much at first either, but the lyrics to a few of the songs sorta sucked me in. I think it was the use of angry lyrics without all the screaming.

The writing writer/telling truth is one of the coolest ideas I've seen in music in a while. I'm not sure I totally get it yet, but I'm pretty sure I like it.

Some of the other songs have some cool hooks and stuff, but they're not really amazing. Welcome home rocks but its not amazing. The Suffering is catchy... for a pop song.

uh, for the record, its really really obviously effected on the record with an autotune effect cranked to the full setting, hence the complete lack of all slide tones in-between the pitches.

I pretty strongly disagree about the buildup/climax. A great deal of their songs build and explode as strongly as anything I can think of. Right off the top of my head Delirium Trigger, The Crowing, Backend Of Forever (holy hell), In Keeping Secrets, Everything Evil, etc. I don't see how anyone miss the emotion in thier music with Claudio freaking pouring his heart out the way he does. Vocally and on the guitar.

I will say this, I understand why a lot of people don't like Good Apollo. There are a couple flat songs in there, and the overall structure of the album is a little off. That said I think Apollo I and The Willing Well I/II/III/IV are thier D/R/T. Simply wonderful.

D/R/T... if you then followed it with a pink floyd rip off track (its even called "The Final Cut"!)

You don't sing with them, plus they suck, find a real band and stop munching on your boyfriend's balls.
