those would be shitty seats anyway. the good thing about red rocks is that people can go up and down the stairs/seats from where they are. some may actually use the aisle, and have to at some point depending.

by saying "those would be shitty seats anyway", i'm assuming you mean because of their view from the side?? or am i mistaken in my assumption??
very fucking stoked. first time going to red rocks and first time being in colorado and i live in Salt Lake. lol.
do you guys think row 51 will be a ok location? the seats are actually right in the middle too. also all you denver folk, what is a good local brewery that serves good food?

You'll have a fantastic view from row 51. Now, it won't be the best view of the 4 dudes on stage, but it's lovely anyway. You'll understand when you get there.
Make it up to Boulder (only ~30 mins north of RR) if you want a nice microbrewery. I think you'd be hard pressed to find one around Morrison. Boulder Beer and Avery make great beer - not sure about food. There was a lengthy brewery discussion in the general thread a couple weeks ago.
If you want great food - look up Willy's Wings. They are right in Morrison and make the best chicken wings I've ever had. I'd put them up against any wings. Ever.
doesnt even have to be at a bar or anything. i myself having never been to the ampitheatre before would be satisfied just meeting up with people inside the actual place, buy a couple beers or whatever, and just sit and soak in the view and talk about all things tool....

The parking lots are probably the best place. Security is very loose and tailgating tends to be pretty wild. Plus the views are nice - even from the parking lots. Of course, it's hard to say which lot you'll end up in - I always liked parking at the top but that is usually the first lot that fills up.

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks
I was looking @ the virtual tour marked row 5. The 5th row looks like its the 3rd row. Anyway, my question is this: is the 3rd row the 1st row of benches? I have 3rd row for the 1st night... 11th for the 2nd.

Nope, the 1st row of benches is the first row. Cheers!
Driving in from Dallas...row 36, seats 61 and 62...right in the very middle of Red Rocks. I've only been to one other show at Red Rocks (Willie Nelson a couple years ago). I am so freakin' excited.
Location: I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks
The South Upper parking lot is usually the best parking lot for tailgating, but it's a good hike up the ramp THEN the ampetheater. If you're looking to just not have to hike so many stairs, the upper north lot is the closest, and the only lot ABOVE all the seats.
For the out of towners:
Golden, CO is very close, and it's a REALLY cool town. Woody's pizza is really good, and there's a beautiful creek walk up Clear Creek.
I'll be in the upper south parking lot pretty early...SO STOKED!!!
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Cameras and video recorders are STRICTLY prohibited for this performance. Violators may be ejected from the Amphitheatre.
possibly because they could be filming? i'm gonna go ahead and get my hopes up even though i should have learned my lesson by now...
I thought the same thing about the camera/video statement of the Red Rocks' website. It seems a pretty forcefull admonition, more so than I have ever seen before for any venue. But, don't hold your breath.

Do you want to bet that They are playing Red Rocks twice because they will be filming. To make it even better maybe they will play the exact same setlist each night so they have more material for their live dvd that will take years to complete and release. I'm a long time admirer and wouldn't be surprised by this at all.

In as much as Red Rocks is a popular place for artists to record, and as much as those recordings are often later recognized as seminal moments in a band's journey, I just don't see Tool doing so. Yes they will be playing two back-to-back shows to a combined 18,000 plus raging fans, and, to be certain, we are likely to get the same set list both nights (given historical tour context), but I'm not going to go so far out on a limb as to wager anything one way or another (not that I thought you were really asking to bet). I think the live DVD thing that has been dangled out there for so long now is just a carrot to keep us interested so they can beat us with the stick of obfuscation. They keep us reading, hoping, speculating about a live recording all the while decrying live recordings as hollow and and a distraction from their desire to create a certain experience of time and place for their audience in the flesh. Salival was the anomaly in all that. Live tracks already in-the-can were used to pad out a disc so as to satisfy the record label in negotiations over getting out of their previous deal -- happens all the time in the record industry.
Don't get me wrong, I will be out of my mind if they film/record at Red Rocks while I'm in the audience. Let's be honest, I'll buy whatever they put out there for me to.
Well they played Intolerance and Third Eye last night, all bets are off. I'm so much more excited now! If I get to hear Intolerance live then all I need to hear off of undertow would be Bottom.
I wasn't going to look at the setlist, but... Third Eye!!! I can't wait till Monday. If they would add Reflection to the list, that would be beyond kick ass.

I would feel weird hearing Reflection without it being lead into with Disposition and followed with Triad, though I keep dreaming of hearing them live again. The tour in 2002 really made me appreciate that block on Lateralus.
Like you guys said, nothing new for Tool shows. But I've never seen that from Red Rocks and I've been going to shows there for years.
It's interesting to me to still see Tool keep this up. I mean, in the early days I understand it... when they were more 'mysterious' or whatever. But lately MJK has been in public eye quite a bit... just seems like they would be more relaxed about that sort of thing.
Anyway, back on topic- ONE WEEK! Gonna be epic! See you freaks in the parking lots!
but i cant buy any, i need a red card or whatever the fuck it is.
plus, i'm not just gonna walk up to people and be like yo can i smoke your shit...
He means people will be selling like crazy because of the dispensaries and I bet you 75% of the crowd will have weed on them, if not more. You will find any kind of weed you want in the lots I'm sure.
And I'm not saying to bring weed from wherever youre from (cuz our weed is by far superior to mostly anywhere in the US except one or two places) but it's very very easy to bring shit on the plane. Tape a little baggy right above your penis. If it ever comes to it they will run the back of their hand down your crotch (but thats in extreme situations, or if the retard is so fucking worthless and stupid that when he runs his wand by there and the button on your pants makes a sound he mistakes that for a bomb or he's just gay and wanted to feel my junk, I dont know.)
