Well, the best show I saw was the one here in Adelaide in 2002. The setlist was:
The Grudge
(-) Ions
Stinkfist
(Extended)
Forty-Six & 2
Parabola
Schism
Sober
Jimmy
Disposition
Reflection
Triad
(with Dale Crover)
Ænema
Lateralus
Personally I'm not a huge Parabola fan, so I can't say it was the "perfect" setlist or anything. Was great seeing Jimmy though.

Hard to choose, but this was the best MJK banter I've ever heard (the 10 min I buttfucked Morrissey story..) plus it was a major trip to see a show in Tijuana.
Intolerance
Bottom
Stinkfist
Undertow
Swamp Song
Sober
4°
Pushit
Prison Sex
Cold and Ugly
No Quarter
(Led Zeppelin cover)
Opiate

That Red Rocks set list is dope and one of my favorite bootlegs I have in my Tool live case.
I guess my first show at Chicago 9/9/01
the grudge
stinkfist
undertow
46 & 2
eulogy
shcism w/ maynard on guitar
disposition
reflection
intermission w/ contortionists
parabol
parabola
eon blu apocalypse
the patient
aenima
lateralus
I was hooked-yeAh, so after that I went to the next 2 shows in Grand Rapids and Cleveland which were similar set lists.

Any setlist that doesn't have Schism & Sober and doesn't end with Aenima & Lateralus would be entirely refreshing for me.

That one is memorable to me because I spotted Steve Wozniak in the crowd right before the show (he has/had a private "Woz" sponsored box at Shoreline, but this was the first time I'd seen him in it).
I submitted an email to him through his website, after the show, detailing how much Macs were used in the creation of the show, from the lighting design through video content creation and playback.
He emailed me back almost immediately telling me he wasn't surprised to hear that, as he thought it was a very artsy and creative show. He said he hadn't seen Tool before, and the show "reminded me of Jethro Tull, but with better music".

I'm curious why you'd use Macs since everyone these days seems to scream PC supremacy?
I've taken a ton of flack for buying a Mac, especially from tdners.

Choosing a favorite setlist is very diffcult for me. I have seen some really good shows. Like night 1 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle:
- The Grudge
- Stinkfist
- 46&2
- Parabola
- Schism
- Eulogy (Very pleasant surprise)
- Disposition/Reflection
--INTERMISSION--
- Sober
- Pushit (Slow/Salival Version)
- Opiate
- Lateralus
But my first Tool show ever in 1996 I got to see Jimmy.
Stinkfist
46 and 2
Intolerance
Eulogy
Hooker with a Penis
Prison Sex
Jimmy
Undertow
Pushit
Sober
Opiate
Aenima

So we can all agree that Stinkfist at 600+ needs to be retired. My favorite setlist is Las Vegas 2012:
Hooker With a Penis
Jambi
Stinkfist
Ticks & Leeches
Pushit
Schism
Intension
Forty-Six & 2
Lateralus
The Pot
Ænema
And The Pearl April, 28 2007
Jambi
Stinkfist
Forty-Six & 2
Schism
Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)
Rosetta Stoned
Swamp Song
Wings for Marie (Pt 1)
10,000 Days (Wings, Pt 2)
Lateralus
(extended with John from SOAD)
Vicarious
Ænema
Sucks that my first show ever was Coachella in 2006 so have only seen the extended 10,000 days tour.
3rd best show was Red Rocks 2010:
Third Eye
Jambi
(-) Ions
Stinkfist
Vicarious
Eon Blue Apocalypse
The Patient
Intolerance
Schism
Forty-Six & 2
Lateralus
(with Wovenhand's drummer Ordy Garrison)
Ænema

funny you say that. i feel like stinkfist (and Lateralus) are the 2 tool songs that MUST be played every single show for the rest of their touring careers. something about stinkfist just translates live so much better than on the album. and lateralus, well it's fucking lateralus.

Heres what they new to bring back. Prison Sex..H...Undertow..the Grudge...and last but not least D-R-T. Thank God I got to see all of those songs live. Those of you who have only seen 10k days tour, you really dont know what you missed. Especially Lateralus tours (2001-2002) . Ive probably bitched more than most about the live DVD because I was at one of the 6 shows they were supposed to tape for the DVD (Reno 11-23-02 infamous encore show) but now realize a live DVD couldn't do the live show justice.

I don't think we'll ever get H, Jimmy or PS again. But I could see 4 deg. Bottom, Crawl Away, Undertow, Part of Me or Parabola making a comeback. .

Most people I know in the touring music business are, and have been Mac users for a long time. Technicians and musicians alike.
When recording song ideas, most bands use Macs.
There are PCs here and there. I own 2 PCs that I bought for specific duties, but most of my plotting is done on my Mac. One PC was a low budget laptop running XP so I didn't have to worry about my Mac being exposed to a mishap in a potentially volatile environment. The other one was a laptop with a touchscreen to make it's duties easier. Most of my Windows needs (console emulation, etc.) are served by dual-boot Macs running Windows via Boot Camp.
Also, in 2001 (when the Woz email happened) PCs weren't really seen as creative tools by many people in music.
The PowerPC G4 architecture was still new in 2001, and was stomping on Intel, so the video playback system that Breck (current live video operator) built for Tool ran on Macs.
These days there are more digital artists (such as Meats) using PCs than used to be, probably because Apple moved away from internal expansion, and a lot of PCs can be maxed out into monster machines.

Great response, Junior.
I will add that from myself working in the printing field for so long that only Macs were used for designing, never a PC. I don't know all of the technical answers as to why except for that I know that the Mac monitors were the most color accurate, and every color has to be dead on and matched with commercial printing. I have been out of printing for 7 years now so I am not sure if computer designers have been able to use PCs now, or not in their place of business.

You can hear a little Tool influence on Rush's latest album - Clockwork Angels.

i'm surprised that over all these years the members of both bands haven't collaborated on a song/project in some way.
especially the drummers....

I think they've both influenced each other, at this point.
As for projects, what about the Carey Claypool Copelamd Peart thing that happened a few years ago.

maybe it's my age showing when I say this, but it's almost embarrassing to admit on these forums that 98% or more of my total tool songs played come from Aenema, Lateralus and 10,000 Days. I honestly haven't given Undertow or Opiate the daylight they probably deserve.

I guess its depends on what you came up with. I liked Undertow a lot especially live but Aenema was life changing.

Give them more daylight. I love the raw sound from early tool recordings.
To me there are three distinct periods in Tool sound:
Opiate/Undertow
Ænima/Salival/Lateralus
10,000 Days/?
Make sure you give Salival some time as well. Pushit, You Lied and No Quarter make that a very underrated album. You Lied and the Salival version of Pushit may be my favourite tool songs.

You cant give them daylight. You've only been on the Eternal Extended 1,000,000 Days tour. Aenima tour was heavy as shit because all they had for material was Opiate, Undertow and Aenima. Sick. But i think anyone whos seen them at least starting with Undertow tour will say that the Lateralus tours were the best live shows of their career
