Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

First off, amazing show. I saw them in May when they came here, it this just blew that show outta the watter. I am a tad disappointed they didn't touch any of the songs off Undertow and Opiate, especially the seemingly requsite Sober. Oh well, they played Wings for Marie 10,000 days and Aenema, so it still fucking rocked. But still...

Onto a bit of a sidetrack, but what the fuck are with Tool fans these days? I was on the floor for the Lateralus tour both times in 2001 and 2002, and people then where nowere near as bad as tonight. I swear to God, I have never seen so many assholes in a moshpit before. Fuckin... I've seen people in Slipknot moshpits that were mor civilized and calmed down then you fuckers. Shit, I've been in Slayer moshes that were more contained then the ones tonight. My God. I mean really, do you have to mosh during fucking Wings? Come on now people. I saw at least seven people fall over in the pits tonight, and not get helped right up. What the hell is with that shit?! I used to think that Tool fans used to be a little more.... thoughful for others. A little more open minded, if you will. But, tonight, a lot of you looked like some nu-metal fart knockers than anything.

Amazing fucking show, but the people on the floor left quite a bit to be desired.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

Hello Almost Canada

This was an incredible show. The lighting added alot especailly the lasers.

I was worried at frist because maynard wasnt singing choruses, atleast on 46 and two. but he changed that quickly.

At one point Danny broke a drumstick, I think it was in Jambi.

During Wings the entire audience held up their lighters, the auditorium was lit up pretty well.

A muscular man wearing a Tutu and a Luchadore mask came on to the stage during vicarious. After the song Maynard said that he was a Russian beauty pagent winner. "thats why you shoudl stay away from streoids"

Maynard dedicated Wings to some one, I can only remember his first name (I think) which was mike.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

Wow,
Like they needed the lasers. Definitely brought the show to another level. I'm kind of at a loss for words right now, but to the random guy who gave me a beer, Thank you. And to the guys sharing the other stuff, thanks as well.
Wings and 10000 days were AMAZING.

We were standing on left side of the sound board. Sound quality was top notch.

Security was very busy on the floor, but it seemed to melow out where we were about halfway through. Some dude ran by me and blasted my drink outof my hand and then got it on with a couple of security guys. People cheered as he was escorted out. Fucker, owes me a drink!
HELGA ,we love you.

Peace the fuck out!

Van

Mike Van is who he dedicated it to. And that wrestler guy.... I am scared for life now. Seroisly, though, he was fucking hilarious. I also thought it was interesting how his mask had two different faces on the sides, but when you look at it straight on they blended together.

And when everyone held up their lighter... God that almost made me cry. Fuckin epic and beautiful and God words dont do it justice

"Good Evening Almost Canada!!"

Stinkfist
The Pot
Forty Six & 2
Jambi
Schism
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Wings For Marie
10,000 Days
**ENCORE BREAK**
Lateralus
Vicarious
Ænema

This was my first ever Tool show and what a show it was!! to quote MJK from Rosetta Stoned..."HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!" The show was spectacular in every sense of the word. I actually captured a recording of the concert on my mp3 player and it turned out good, listening to Schism right now, the fast breakdown in the middle was kick ASS!!

Helga coming out in the pink tutu during Vicarious was funny.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

Pushing on the floor was pretty bad for the first three songs, but after we moved back 15 or 20 feet the crowd began to calm down and the show was much better.

I don't know what part of the floor Dough was on but our part was much more civilized. Yeah it was crazy and violent but people were kind about it and no one was randomly attacking anyone.

The show itself was the best show I've ever been to. Ridiculous. Bodybuilder in a Nacho Libre wrestling mask and a pink tutu?

What I can't believe though, was Kansas was luder than us. :( Freaking KANSAS.

I was about ten, fifteen feet from the front. I was basically right in front of the big pit that kept starting right there in the middle of everyone.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

And, not everyone was so bad. There were a lot of assholes there, sure, but some cool people. Shared two joints with this one gay couple. Well, I assume they were gay, what with how they were all the fuck over each other.

Gave out a couple of cigarettes to some people, one of wich in turn invited me into a circle for some hits of this really crazy pipe. All loopy and shit, really a nice piece of glass-work. Man, I wish I had brought my pipe tonight. I had some weed in my wallet, but I left my pipe in the car. Me am sad panda for that... I would have loved to share with people. Oh well, some of you got my cigarettes, hope that made up for some of it. I did share my weed with the group who had the pipe, but still wish I had brought my own in.

Oh well, live and learn I suppose.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

Same setlist as KC it appears. The mosh pit was mainly on the right side towards the front. I think its useless to complain about moshing on the floor, its like arguing on the internet...you are not going to win.

A few random thoughts...

with the white stage the guitar techs, stagehands, etc had little hospital booties on over their shoes while they were working before the Tool set.

Maynard had the ATF jacket and cowboy hat on to start. He took it off at different points and had his hair spiked in a mohawk.

I liked the visuals, even the lasers although I don't think the lasers add a whole lot.

The sound was excellent, especially for Target Center.

Maynard pretty much stayed on the riser to the left of the drum kit and used his keyboard thing quite a bit.

Justin rocks..well they all do, but Justin is the "headbanger" of them while playing

My 4th time seeing them and the best overall

Not only was that my first Tool concert, but that was my first actual concert. I went alone, and i'm proud of myself... kinda

What does ATF stand for? just wondering.

I enjoyed it, probably aenema the most, only because I screamed the shit out of my lungs. I got worried when Maynard stopped singing during The Pot.

If they come back, I'm definitly going agian.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

Some crazy chick wanted to crowd surf, so me and this other dude knelt down to pick her up. Well, she was apparently a little excited or something, because before we started to pick her up, she started climbing us. She even stepped on my ear, which was a little nasty because she was barefoot. Oh well, atleast I got to cop a feel... I mean, errr, yeah.

And very lol at the drunk people there. I saw this one guy twirl around like a ballerina, and then ran outta there holding his mouth. I hope he didn't get sick on anyone there. What I dont get is why people would wanna get drunk there. I dont have an issue with being drunk, but when beer starts at fucking six dollars a cup, a 12oz cup at that, come on now. Thats gotta be expiensive.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

great show.

***This was after 10k days (I think)***

Audience: Screams, but not very loud.

Maynard: "Kansas was louder..."

Audience: Screams louder.

Maynard: "I didn't say louder was a good thing... just that they were louder."

Audience: Screams again.

Maynard: "gee thanks, someone forgot to brush their teeth...
[then he mentions something about gingivitis]"

***Midway through Vicarious...***

a very large, muscular man crept onto the center stage. We'll call him Helga.

He was definately a body builder. He was wearing a red tutu (?) and a blue mask. Helga was the largest man I've ever seen in person.

He came in from the right (Audience perspective). He spends just a minute or two on stage. The whole time striking poses.

As he was walking off, Danny jumped off his seat and pointed at the dude! Like "check this dude out."

After the song:

Maynard: [looks around]
Maynard:

"Who the fuck was that? That was Crrrreepy!"
...
"Just kidding. That was Helga. She was miss Sweden back in 195X" "See kids, that's why you stay away from steroids."

***before aenima***

Maynard: "peace...the fuck... out..."

Hey Hey Hey

-I thought I heard Maynard repeat "Fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memories" more than once.

I think I saw your son there at the end, down next to the floor. Was he wearing a Tool shirt that is ten sizes too big, and went down to like, his shins? Because if it's him, I said something likle fuck yeah, kid to him.... Sorry if I got him started on a new word or something, but man that is kick ass that he was there.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

Amazing show, best Ive ever seen.
Helga was a nice addition I laughed my ass off.
Lasers kicked ass especially during wings10k.

Did anyone catch what maynard said after the KC was louder comments. SOmething like "Gross shut your mouths, you need to brush your teeth, gingivitis anyone"
something like that anyway.

Guess I didnt think the crowd was moshing that bad but I was watching it from the lower section of bleachers so I guess i wouldnt know what was going on down there.

Sound quality was excellent, blew away the orpheum show.

ISIS owned also, hope they come back to MN on their own.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

It was all good. Justin was the star though, I mean, they way his bass sounded and how he played it was inspiring. Amazing. The white stage was cool and I too noticed those blue booties the techs et al were wearing pre-show. I was trying to figure out why 'cause it looked kind funny. Some guys were wearing just socks during setup. Well, I have never seen before what they did with the floor - it was like killer, so trippy and mesmerizing.

wtf was up with the tutu guy??? does he tour with them or was this just a special surprise for those of us in "almost canada"?

Rosetta Stoned was excellent. Time changes were executed flawlessly. I did think though that between songs there seemeed to be too much dead space. But overall, a classic show; the band was super tight.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

All I can Say is Dissapointed, Maynard Had no Energy the rest of the Band was Fucking great, The Visuals did not kick in Till Wings, Maynard interacted but the Screens were right behind the band so if you were on the floor near the sound stage Good luck seeing it, The Back drop stayed Pitch Black til half way thru, I have seen Tool Eight times since 1996 and this was by far the WORST FOR ME! was not expecting Rushing the stage and Huge Pits But Prior Tool Shows were more based on the Music and the Stage act ( Maynards Dancing, Stage Props Nude people dangling from Wires, Big Screens with odd shit playin to the music) Thats a Tool Show sure Maynard took his hat and shirt off and then put it back on then off again and joked around about Smelly Breath but it just lacked something (Kinda Like the new album) But otherwise ISIS and TOOL sounded great wings was great Live along with the Pot, Jambi would have liked to have heard Right in Two and Sober But they are not Juke Box's so I got what got , Along with 15 Huge Posters sorry for those who wanted one and I bought what was left you can get them from me on eBay. LOL!!!!!!!

"that was Helga the 1960 miss russia beauty pageant winner, thats what happens when you take steriods."

Sweet show, saw them for the first time this May at the Orpheum, both shows kicked ass, but this one was slightly better aside from replacing Opiate and Sober for Wings. Lasers, light tree, projections on stage, lighters everywhere during the set break, Justin putting up his lighter. Hopefully theyll do some different stuff when they come back this winter, we shall see.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

(Edited cuz I wanted to add more, was a little drunk when I posted last night)

This was my second time seeing TOOL, the first being back in Sept 2001. I thought that this was an amazing concert. I was right in center on the rail the entire concert, and I just want to say that to any of the people that were by me and my bf, you all rock. The pit crew was awesome too, they saved a lot of people from getting smacked in the head from all the people coming over the rail. They were really cool and handed out Starbursts, water, and earplugs :D I truly loved being where I was, but I talked to alot of my friends that had seats in the lower-level section seating and the balcony... and I can say that I didn't see anything that was happening on the white floor. I saw the crew guys in their socks and little blue booties... thought that was kinda funny.

Isis was a great opening band; I really enjoyed their energy and the way their music changed from flowing and smooth to just rocking out. I thought the ways the lights changed was cool when they went heavier as well. There was a guy by us that told us Isis rocked, and he wasn't kidding!

It was pretty funny when Maynard greeted us, but go figure he would say something like that. His belt buckle was so big! It was this cool skull and had details going around the skull. The mohawk was sexy too :D Adam didn't even look like he was trying when he played - so cool.

I loved how they opened with Stinkfist - it sounded freaking amazing. My only complaint was that it was a little hard to hear his vocals at times. I saw him signaling to the sound guys and yelling at them. After Stinkfist he went over and was talking to one of the guys too.

The Pot sounded great live - I was afraid Maynard might not sing it too well because of his sickness, but he did awesome. I was a little disappointed that Maynard didn't sing the chorus in most of 46&2, but just watching Adam, Danny, and Justin play was good enough for me.

Jambi was so awesome to see live - I think I screamed along the whole song... which was pretty damn hard considering how hard we were getting squished against the rail. I'm really glad to have the opportunity to see that live.

During Lost Keys Maynard sat behind the speakers(?) Amp.. whatever it was and was just enjoying hearing the rest of the guys play. Then he got up and strapped that distortion thing on his back to sing Rosetta Stoned. I didn't really hear him singing the "Holy fucking shit part" but maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention.

Schism was fucking spectacular when they played Schism in doubletime; watching them all play was like a gift that you treasure forever - they all performed so well.

Wings/10,000 days was just as amazing as I thought it could be, Lateralus, beautiful. The band kicked so much ass playing Vicarious... And it was absolutely fantabulous to fucking ROCK OUT to Ænema.

On a side note, damn you guys by me who got Danny's drumstick! I had my hand on it! Haha, but I hope you treasure it. Lucky!!! Also, does anyone know who that blond chick was that was filming the band? She came out and was taping all of the cool parts. It was funny when she was taping Helga.

Excellent concert - loved every moment of it and just truly feel blessed to have been able to be that close to them and experience it. Thank you to TOOL for playing for us!!!

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

I had upper level seating. 211 section. Which at first I thought was gonna be fairly shitty. But it turned out, to my surprise, that the upper level was the fucking place to be for this gig. Because all the great visual displays were on the stage floor itself. From the upper level, looking down at the band, I had a spectacular side view of the stage. Truly, after seeing the show in this way and hearing some of you bitch about lack of visuals in General Admission, I think I had some of the best damn seats in the house!

Anyway, great show. My fifth time seeing Tool. It's tough to say if this gig was superior to the two Lateralus shows. I'm still trying to absorb it. But their was definitely a lot more Maynard energy back in '01. But I don't blame the guy. I've performed sick before. It certainly sucks. But big respect to him for pulling off a great vocal performance despite his ill health and the fact that it took away from his unique stage energy. Kudos.

Hope they come back again soon. Traditionally, they do two full U.S tours per record before vanishing from the public eye. Spring perhaps? One can only hope.

GFY Asshat , did you scalp some tickets too?

Another thing concert wise I forgot to mention:
after Stinkfist Maynard went over to the side of the stage and talked to one of the Techs and then during the next song or so he was making motions to them about something. He looked pissed that something wasn't working right. I'm not sure if it was the visuals or his sound/mic or what. He was wearing an IPOD looking thing on his left arm for his in-ear piece but I don't think that was the problem. I think he changed mike stands after 46&2 so maybe that was the problem.

Re: 2006/09/16 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Center

lateralus, jambi, aenima, schism(danny rocked during that added fast bridge, holy shit), and Rosetta Stoned were played with more energy. The first two songs, Maynard looked like he just wasn't into it. I pretty much paid my 68 dollars to see Lateralus live, and it did not dissapoint whatsoever. It was probably the best 10 minutes of my life with the visuals (Black then white, red and yellow than came to be) matching up perfectly with the song.

there was a very Tool-esque video playing during The Pot, which was a lot different than any of the other videos that they had playing in the background. It really did look like the next video.

"Hello, Almost Canada" had me laughing for 2 or 3 minutes.

the 2nd Maynard-ism was

"Kansas was louder."

(cheering louder)

"What? They were. Not saying you guys aren't good, but they were louder."

(cheering again)

"Holy fuck, you guys need to brush your teeth. It prevents the gum disease gingivitis. God damn."

the third was

"Who the fuck was that?.... She was creepy!

"Just kidding, that was Helga. She is a Russian beauty pageant winner. Miss Russia in 1960. See kids, that's what steroids will do to you."

Fucking amazing show. Worth twice the price of admission that I paid. We probably had the best view in the entire venue, Section 138 Row S. Right in the middle of the first level directly in front of the stage. The visuals and lasers blew me away. But I guess I should have expected it for my first Tool show.

Aside from the Orpheum intimacy, this show was better. I am a sucker for visuals and loved the white stage.

Section 236 - row A was a great vantage point. The crown energy and "one"ness is cool to see from a perch.

Thanks to John from Madison for conversation before the show; and for referring to me as his hero.

It was a great show. I just want to say that there WERE quite a few assholes on the floor who didn't know when to mosh and when to chill. Oh well, it kicked ass and Tool is great EVERY TIME.

Ok enuff whining,,to the chick that lost her wallet in section 110,,,i took a peppermint b4 turning it in, sorry but i had gingivitis mouth goin on. Oh and $43. for a paper thin tshirt is a bit much,,if i wash this and the fucker warps on me im gonna be pissed. But i HAD to have it! ;-) This is my 3rd post addition eh oops, on a brigher note, that was sweet when the whole arena lit up during their little break, not a dark corner in the place.

What does ATF stand for? just wondering.

I enjoyed it, probably aenema the most, only because I screamed the shit out of my lungs. I got worried when Maynard stopped singing during The Pot.

If they come back, I'm definitly going agian.
ur serious? Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms,,,my sister works for them, maybe she can get him a matching baseball hat. lol
