someone being abused and liking it

when i first heard and actually listened to this song it felt like the narrator was in a lot of pain. I thought and still think that this song is about someone who is in an abusive relationship and they like it. They like being hurt or they just love the love the person that they are with sooo much that they can't leave them. They kind of get used to the abuse and like it. "I'm alive when you're touching me, alive when you're shoving me down."

I especially empathize with that synopsis of the song, just leaving a sexually abusive relationship - I didn't want to, and she did (I know, crazy!) so I did anyway. And that destroyed the good friendship we had at the time... thus "Take care not to make me enter, If I do we both may disappear" has special literal meaning for me. And even though they are fighting: "You still love me"... I'm thinking Salival version, aren't I?

I will always love you even as I tear your fucking throat away.

Passive agressive/ love-hate?
