I haven't heard 10K days yet, but his work with Peach on Giving Birth to a Stone is some of the most amazing, raw, "disgustingly good" (as dracomordag so masterfully put it) bass work I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong, he was good on Ænima and Lateralus, but it sounded lower in the mix compared to Peach. I'm still waiting with baited breath to hear how he plays on 10,000 Days, though.

Still, if you haven't heard Giving Birth to a Stone I'd really reccommend it. It's quite teh good.

if you haven't heard 10kD... you have not experienced how good JC can really be. on this second listen through, he's shining even more. Intension and Wings seem to be his stand out tracks, but he certainly is good on every one.

true, but he really comes through on this album. like, i heard his riffs on the other ones and was like "okay, he's not your typical bassist that plays just root tones, etc. (obviously)"... but didn't think way high of him. this album really changed my view on that. that one song where the intro is just him doing crazy harmonics and shit is killer

Simply playing notes doesnt make you good...Jaco Pastorius plays notes...Victor Wooten is a bass player...its all about feel and mix with the music to which the player is mixed with. Victor Wooten plays bass...Flea plays bass...Claypool plays bass...Justin MOTHERFUCKING Chancellor plays the MOTHERFUCKING Bass. Jaco doodle and plays notes.

can someone correct me?......paul left the band because of creative differences (we all know) but didn't he want to create ambient trippy music? more of like what they are doing today?

im confused.

Oh and it depends on who you are asking....seeing how you thought they got better.

im not going to say JC (the bassist, not the christ) is the best bassist ever, i hodl stanley clark there, but he is the greatest rock bassist. whats the differece? people like les claypool (who i love) are playing in the front on purpose to show us how good they are at the bass. when listening to this album you realize that justin sticks out in front of this album because hes playing to the music, not trying to show off. im sitting here right now listening to the new album with my bass and i cant get my head around some of the bass lines that he throws down. before i saw justin as a background bassist, someone who just tries to enforce the music, but on this album he is making the music.
