the desire for live opiate songs

i really dig opiate, please don't get me wrong. i think everything tool has done thus far has its relevance and time and place. what i don't understand is how alot of people at the concerts (i will refrain from using the word fan) are still rabid for opiate songs and get seriously pissed when tool doesn't induldge them.

tool hasn't made music like the stuff that's on opiate in over ten years!!!

i dont get it

i cant speak for everyone else but my goal (which i think is unrealistic) is to see every tool live.. ive been to 3 tool concerts so far and this is all i have left.

sweat
hush
intolerence
bottom
crawl-away
undertow
4 degrees
flood
disgustipated (i highly doubt they will play this but it would be awesome!)
the patient (i want to see this so bad)
ticks and leeches
hooker
jimmy
H
eulogy..

damn i didnt think my list was that big. i guess i really want to see more songs from undertow i wonder why they dont play that many songs from undertow..? in the 3 concets that ive been to they have only played 4 songs from undertow.

I think Maynard said that they would never play ticks and leeches live. I would love to see it but apparently when they recorded it it ruined his voice for 3 weeks.

I clearly remember some quote by Maynard about it ruining his voice.

So much for staying true... Tool is a bunch sellouts and I hate all of you.

THe desire for opiate songs, is because no songs except for a few on undertow are songs you can mosh too. IF you want to go crazy at a concert you wanna hear Jerk Off, COld and Ugly, and Opiate! I've seen tool twice and got to hear cold and ugly once, it was the opener and I think it had the most power of any song that night! Besides Third Eye! Anyways all Tool Rules...but some Opiate live would be tight.

Maynard performs Ticks&Leeches but he doesn't sing it. He uses a weird voice synthesizer and doesn't scream too hard, it's nowhere near the quality you'd want it to be.

I honestly wouldn't want to see any Opiate songs live. Opiate is Tool's worst album. Sweat would be pretty cool to hear live though...

opiate

when i saw tool in 2001 they played opiateandit was incredible. it was one of the best songs of the night, and it had an cool visulation. However i do agree that Sweat would be cool to see in concert.
ps. sorry about the lack of spaces up there(it messed up on me)

Well, this isn't the same as seeing them live, but if you want most anything from opiate or undertow, look for the sober '93 and '94 bootleg cds. You won't find them in many record stores but if you dig around on ebay or kazaa (not much digging required kind of taking away the sense of adventure in serching) you will find very high quality live performances.

And you haven't heard the Patient live yet seeyouauntie, they played it at practically every show this summer.

I saw Ticks and Leeches live in Tacoma, WA on November 8th, 2001. This was the third time they had ever played it live. The music was flawless and it was amazing, needless to say. That song has incredible guitar work, bass work and, obviously, drum work. The problem though was in the vocals. Maynard had to use a synthesizer and it didn't sound anywhere near as good as it does on the album. Who can blame the guy though? I 100% believe that it ruined his voice when they recorded it. Have any of you tried to legitimately sing that song? It's insane. And, I'm glad they decided to play it, and the sythesizer was just an adjustment they had to make and it was fine. No regrets. It was still awesome.

I have a live video of ticks+leeches live and your right, it dosent sound the same. I attended a show this past fall and they didnt play a single opiate song. they opened w. sober but that was the only song from undertow. They played stinkfist, h. , and third eye from aenima. Everything else was from lateralus. would really have liked to see eulogy, but the show rocked anyway.

I have a live version of Cold and Ugly and it's sweet. Starts of with a riff from some Rush song.

Yeah, all the Ticks live versions I've heard are sub-par.

I heard them play Ticks and leeches live, it was pretty good,Maynards screams held up well, my only complaint would be that they played only about 30 seconds of the quiet middle of the song.

Re: the desire for live opiate songs

Opiate and Eulogy are the only ones I lack seeing them perform. Last weekend I got to see Third Eye as an opener in NOLA so..... One thing to do in life checked.

Re: the desire for live opiate songs

This thread reminded me of distortiononline. Good to see that site is still up.

Holy crap, I totally forgot that they played Some Days It's Dark on the last tour! Good times. I can already see GDSTM3 shaping up....

-Holiday in Cambodia
-Some Days It's Dark
-extended Intolerance
-extended Third Eye
-Schism (double-time extended)
-extended Lateralus
-Faaip de Oiad (only live performance)
-Maynard's Dick?
