Most music has a feeling that 'pulls you forward'. Almost like you're traveling through a tunnel of visions. This song in my opinion is very unique in that it feels like it is pulling you DOWN... which happens to be very appropriate for the subject matter. Does anyone else get this feeling?
First time i listened to it on my computer, i had "startunnel" on visual on my Media Player (dunno if it's called like this). At the point where Maynard ends his GRUUUUUUDGE scream (at about 7 min.) i got the strong feeling the screen was pulling me in. After that i always feel a "pulling" movement at this part of the song. I don't know if you were refering to this particular part of the song, but this is what i feel when i listen to it.

It does pull me down, almost exactly as you put it, actually.
It seems to pull me down in the way that it exhausts me. Whether it is an emotional or physical exhaustion, I don't yet know, but it's almost as if that's the vibration the song seems to give off.
I think the part that seems to "pull down" the most for me anyway... is the first part where Maynard says "Saturn Ascends". I get the visual of falling in a bottomless pit... How relevant that the song is about diverting ones path from selfishness and Ego before you hit bottom. It almost even seems like the very end is thrusting you back up.
It is a very strong and deep song imo, when i begin to listen to Lateralus i had that feeling too !
but to be honest is the perfect song to get all the anger out of you...i listen to it and scream out loud!
I think it's an old figure of speech, haven't heard it in a long time but he's saying almost doesn't count in anything else unless you were almost blown to pieces by a grenade or almost hook the horseshoe on the rod in the game horseshoes....I'm sure you could add many others to that list that would count as well...I dunno, I found it funny at the moment

No. Almost counts with horseshoes because you get points for getting the horseshoe close to the pin, and hand grenades because you don't have to hit your target, you just have to get it close.

That's exactly what I just said dumbass

No, it isn't dumbass. You said some ridiculous nonsense about almost getting blown up by a grenade. The actual phrase is "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades." Has nothing to do with almost getting blown up.
You not thinking it's funny is funny. Since everybody I know says it then laughs, and I've always thought it was corny. Some guy probably thought he was the shit when he came up with that gem.

Im happy to see we have ANOTHER graduate from Harvard Law school on our hands.

"No, I pretty much got it figured out."
I'm just not going to argue with a man named Nong. It's like playing twister with a platypus...it's ridiculous and the animal would never win anyway.
Do some digging on Nong. Namely Chinese translation. Hint, has relevance to my location, the Midwest. Sorry I couldn't be so original as Inner Eulogy. It's ok though, I'd prefer not to get into a pissing contest with a cock attached to a bottomless bladder.

I could really care less what the name means any more than I do mine. And yeah, I'd prefer you to stay away from my cock as well....keep those urges to yourself.

Not at all. I get some odd feelings when listening to the Patient... but that's really all as far as Tool goes. I don't get any deep connection or physical/mental effect from the music I listen to.

The only thing I can think of is on Lateralus near the end, if you play it in a good car stereo system, there's a part where the guitars sound like they're sucking in and out (right around where he's going "open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin". You can tell they mastered it so that the sound actually goes from the back speakers to the front and keeps going in, out, in, out...it really gives me the feeling that it's sucking me down and in and back again
