We cant do seeds, for the first ones. I say just randomly ascribe people to battle each other, they have a few days to upload something, and then set up polls and let the public vote. Tournament-style, the winners continue and the losers cry to their mommas about how they should have won, it was rigged, etc.

BTW I will slay everyone in the bass competition, just so you all know and are prepared to meet your master.

And rules...hmm. They should not limit that much.

But main things we need to think when we think the rules:
One or multiple instruments? Maybe one is best and most simple?
Track lenght.
Original works? Should they have some idea and real composition or just show the skills?
Should people make new tracks after the first round?

I think the genre, style and effects use should not be limited in any way.

Can we use multiple instruments, i have started working on my piece for the comp against Learn2Swim(which was arranged in the original battle thread by Doughboy) and assumed we could use multiple instruments, but this new battle thread talks about making a seperate Bass, Drums and Guitar battle, what about making another comp for multiple instrument tracks???

Sounds good to me. I do think they should be separate contests.

i think we should write our own full compositions and submit them by a certain date...please don't let it be soon, i got grounded from the computer at home for making a C. i've been working on a drum track with fruity loops 4 that's turning out nicely and would like to layer in some bass and guitar work and complete the song arrangements. can we make them longer than 2 minutes?

Pillsbury, I dont care what the rules are between everyone else; every competition can be different, but for you and I it is merely one guitar, with both distortion and no distortion. The guitar must be electric; I'm not going to shred you to have you come back and be like "Oh well I was planning on playing a chord progression in C..."

Distortion use shouldnt be limited in any way. As shouldnt be effects use.

There will be no rules regarding style of play. Simply record yourself, the way you want to be presented, and that will be that. Head to head. Style vs. style.

Ok, well, im sposed to be battling Learn2Swim, but hes only gonna do a 30 sec clip just to get this thing underway, not really a full on battle. Ill speak to him, and if hes cool with it, ill go up against you, cos ive started a track about 2 days ago, should have it done by the end of the weekend. Hav u used multiple instruments, and also, how long did you go for. Im using multiple instruments, and ill proly go for about 3 min max i rekon.

My computer can only record like...two and a half minutes, I think. So you're gonna have to deal with 2:30 of a solo and 2:30 of a really cool spanish song.

OK - ideas-

Either Tool songs, or solos, 2min or under. They will be judged against each other respectively (if opponent chooses tool song, u play a tool song, Can be the same one.) solos against solos.

Keep in mind tasteful changes and different styles. This does NOT mean solo on rock, then jazz..make it clever. Try NOT to judge on the QUALITY of the recordning, unless completely inaudible. This will be hardest for drums.

Everyone who wants in should sign up by ...(insert date) I think maybe by Monday this comming week..that'd be 4/25? The entrees will then be set up in a grid, facing off. They will have 2 days to upload their song, and then a thread will be created with all the facing entrees. Like this--

I dont know if you guys are seeing the picture clearly. I mean, I'm not against suggestions, sure. But seriously, what tdn voter is going to sit and listen to 5 minutes worth of a single instrument recording? Represent yourself in a timely manner, I would certainly think you could do it in under 2 minutes. That way we will get more honest votes than if say, one competitor has 2 minutes of solid stuff and another one has 5 minutes of wanking. I personally would turn it off and vote for the solid guy. this is still a competition where the public will vote, keep that in mind.

Triad636, you want us to "get back to you?" Nah, you better keep yourself posted. No one has that kind of time or desire.

I would also want to push for no fucking covers. Originality should count for far more than technical ability. If I heard a guy playing his own shit, I would vote for him automatically over someone who covered the parabola solo perfectly. Dont make this a technical ability competition. Live a fucking little, eh?

Also, smirk will have the final say in this competition. I dont expect people to bitch and moan over his decisions concerning rules, who battles who, the way the entries are lined up, etc. Any whining should probably get you automatically ejected from the competition.
