over the summer, i boredly started making my own little hair accessories. i sculpted the main pieces with clay and painted them with acrylics.
they're all a little linty/fuzzy/generally crap, but that's okay, as i was just trying to have fun and pass the time :x
this one was inspired by a children's book that i read when i was very little. it was called MINN of the Mississippi, and the author follows the curious lifespan of a box? turtle that had the letters "MINN" carved into him by some redneck tennessee child. it included lovely little biological illustrations and turtle adventures in some desolate southern creek or riverside. i think, anyway. i was more picture-oriented.
here's one i actually wear from time to time. i like having an awkward bump on the side of my head. the red stitching is a dragon that stretches around.
and this one i actually wear as well. i splurged on a cotton jacket from cosm with the collective vision screen print (http://shop.cosm.org/collectivevisio...evejacket.aspx), and made this headband to match. i knit a scarf and dyed it to match the color scheme. i topped off this one with some foil, for +5 protection against government mind-probes. :D
as i like to consider all things i do with a bright, narcissistic confidence, i was sure these guys would be really popular, especially with the girls! i was certain they'd catch on quick, but something about this one they didn't like. why can't they see the appeal?
the paint ended up being very messy, and my lack of skillz are evident, but i experimented with flakes of mica on the white, tried (and failed) color blending on the iris, and tried out a fine tipped brush for the pink vessels (no precision! ahah.). the pupil is a black tigers eye stone. shiny.
this one is actually fun to wear. i like to position it a little off to the left, so the braids hang down and i can tilt my head to cheerfully stare at others with my 'eye'. :)
