Like Lateralus or not, it has got to be one of the best produced albums of all time.

The Aenima tour was the best too; I miss blue Maynard.

Re: AEnima is STILL Tool's best album

I wish I got to see blue Maynard :( Now we're stuck with old, cowboy hat Maynard, wtf? He needs to do drugs again. And yes, Aenima is clearly the best Tool cd if you ask me. It's the "most Tool" imo

Re: AEnima is STILL Tool's best album

Undertow pushed the limits of metal in the early 90s
For its time and place, yes aenima was the best album
for lateralus' time and place, it was the best album
most likely for 10,000 days, the same will occur

Tool has the fortunate skill level that you cannot compare tool album to tool album because they are all so drastically different. What you need to compare them to is the social musical context in which they were released. Take them as completely seperate entities, and then upon reflection, understand the brilliance before you in knowing that the same band created them all.

Re: AEnima is STILL Tool's best album

I think AEnima is their MASTERPIECE. It's got everything that's special about TOOL. Songs like the title track (or to be exact AENEMA) that make you feel good about yourself (also the title track is one of the best songs ever....period), interludes like Ions or Useful Idiot. Even some great piano in Harry Manback. Not to mention the MONO sound of Maynard's voice in Stinkfist. I could go on forever. I wasn't fortunate to ever see a show during this tour, thus never saw blue Maynard live (I think the Blue Man Group ripped him off) or even Reverend Maynard.

I agree. Aenima has this special feeling inside it, and it also has "Third Eye" ;P
Laterallus was fantastic, tho, too "shiny" is some parts (but the epic Reflection/Disposition/Triad combination is amazing).
10,000 Days is unique in its own way. More experimental and hard-to-relate to, but once you do, it fuckin traps you. Superb!

personally, I did a crash test with these three records. After 10,000 Days, Laterallus seemed too..."weak" in my ears (i'm not degradin the album tho, mind you!), while Aenima still was superior.

Just my 5 cents.

It's hard to compare Tool cd's. They are all different, but amazing in their own way. But I do agree, if I had to pick a favorite cd, it would most likely be Ænima, 10,000 days close behind though.

Haha, I'm sorry my friend, but I suck at playing music. As for my voice, I can't even whistle melodically.
Well, anyway, if you ever want to form a Morbid Angel kindof tribute band, call me for the vocs. ;P

Re: AEnima is STILL Tool's best album

My favorite Tool album and song is AEnema. Each Tool album seems to evolve in musical style and lyrics. Earlier albums seem to sound more raw and Maynard's lyrics seem more intense and angry. Lateralus is my close second favorite. The music seems more refined and styled as also the lyrics. 10K days lyrics seems to relate to current topics and events in today's world like war and the media, and personal loss.
AEnema's music style has the greatest impact to me with it's intensity. The lyrics are in your face. I can listen to AEnema 3 or 4 times in a day and never get tired or bored of it.

at least not today.

Really? Is that really the argument you're going to go with here? The one universal detraction about the album is that it's marred by muddy production values.

Re: AEnima is STILL Tool's best album

i'd say lateralus > 10,000 Days > Aenima

I chose this because lateralus is just mind blowing, since it has the alt. order, i don't care if it was intended or not its still badass to play them like that its like another story. then 10,000 days is just as good as both. Aenima to me has good songs, good flow.
But its really hard to choose but i have to go with this. Lateralus is their masterpiece if you understand the music and the message.

Re: AEnima is STILL Tool's best album

I like aenima the most..It is linked with that time of my life when aenima was released, that was the first time I've heard Tool-band so enigmatic for me then,I hardly could get any info about them, and who they where, how they look..nothing!.I only could imagine who the fuck they could be,as I only knew their genius in kind of music and lyrics that I understand so much and first time ever??And that was so exciting, wonderful!uhhh now those time are gone 4ever :P.It's amazing I remember those years so clearly. And all what is linked with Aenima, maynard blue fosforizing on concerts (just seen photos),and the dark(and so light at once) art ....ughhhhh i'm melting.

While all of Tool's albums are great, Lateralus and Ænima are the standout works and some of the greatest music made by man. But trying to pick a better out of those two could drive me insane. Both have very different sounds and lyrics but give me such amazing feelings when I listen to them.

I agree, Aenima is Tools best album to date, It was the album where the heavy angry sound from there younger days clashed with the more exploreitory sound of modern day tool. Its just briallant. I should also note that some songs off of Aenima (Eulogy, Hooker with a Penis, Third Eye, Aenima) are constantly stuck in my head.
