Let me know what you think. I made the picture a little blurry on purpose but the quality is still good enough to get the point across. The middle section is the flower of life. After I sketched that down I expanded the pattern from it, then made copies of the base design and shaded it prob. 30 different ways before I got it the way I wanted it. This is tool inspired in the fact that I was introduced to the finer points of sacred geometry by their music.
kinda like a DNA sequence w/flower things.

A liittle inspired by Maynards spine tattoo...I'm not 18 yet, but I already have had my friend design my tattoo. It's going to be sort of like a DNA sequence that goes up my spine getting larger towards my shoulder blades, and then kind of withering away at the shoulder blades. And I have butt dimples so I am going to get an elephant between them(an elephant never forgets) Reason being, when I was younger I was in a car accident and broke my neck and really damaged my spine, it really changed me and pointed me for the better. IMO, not my family’s, I never want to forget it though.
"They fought and they clawed like savages. At the end none had found what they were looking for; and they simply returned to nothing, like they were before."
I used to consider getting a crucifix on my arm when I was younger.
Then I stopped believing in God.
Would've been a pretty bad mistake.
But anyway, I like it. And.. don't listen to the "Band tattoos are lame." "Why'd you put THAT logo?". The only one you need to impress is yourself. And you should be impressed.
If we could step beyond the "live hard, die young"-attitude for a moment...
(Yup, lived through that stage of life myself)
Think about how your tattoo will look like if you gain a lot of weight, your skin starts sagging and so on.
The fine lines made by a skilled artist will soon thicken and beautiful details will disappear.
All the colours of the rainbow will make for a nice little tattoo, but the colours will soon blend into a mish-mash.
My advice is therefore: If you have to have fine lines, be sure to have some distance between them. Otherwise choose thick lines (with generous space between them too).
If you have to have alot of colours, appoint a field for each one (keeping it simple, you know) Otherwise I'd suggest as few colours as possible...
Actually... Go for all-black: It works!
My oldest tattoo is now 20 years old and beyond the point where I could just "have it retouched to its former glory" But as I chose tribal as my "thing" back then, I'm still quite happy with them!
Not going to do a Tool-inspired thing myself, but thanks for posting pics and opinions!
For those out there who are hating on people for getting Tool inspired tattoos, shame on you. Tattoos are whatever you want them to be, how do you know that a tool inspired tatto doesnt have a deeper meaning than just being a tool fan, i know mine does. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...2/DSC_0244.jpg
there's something sexy about that pic.
It's the freckles.

That is nice. Really nice.
In reference to all the bullshit people are talking about (un)originality, art is imitation. The difference between blatant imitation and what is original is a fine line that is very hard to discern. And the closer you look at it, the fuzzier it becomes.
In the end, what it all comes down to is the reason behind a tattoo. For me, a tattoo can be done when some important event has happened in your life. Some people get a tattoo of their kid. Others make a mark for every victim they have murdered. Others use their body as a canvas to write down something they need to be reminded of. Since it'll never fade, others use it as a sign of commitment.
So, keep them tats comin', and I wouldn't mind seeing others that aren't tool-related.
I don't know why there's people that shun getting band tattoos, specifically tool ones. I can see their point if someone got a tattoo of Twisted Sister for instance. Realistically though, tool's artwork is by far the most interesting i've seen of any band and can be interpreted in a multitude of different ways. At the same time tool's messages that they produce through their lyrics actually mean something which in my opinion is hard to come by these days for us generation Y'ers. My point? Get a tool inspired tattoo!

This is absolutely GREAT work! i always like the idea of a lotus tattoos pic on my back and now i really want one! Lucky you!
you know what i think would be cool, not that i would do, but if some was devoted enough or not in their right mind, the aenema eye or another tool eye or some eye on their fore head as their third eye. but peronaly if i got a tool tat it would be some real deep lyrics, like i have some of the lyrics of 'imagine' by lennon on my back

i want "we are eternal" tattooed on me somewhere, in either romanian, or arabic. not sure where i want it though. and i want something to do with circles and spirals. still trying to draw something up.
Is it too feminine of a tattoo?
I'm a very masculine person and having fem-bot slogans on my body would (later on) affect my own thoughts on them.
You sir have some reading to do.

It's your shadow that you're avoiding. If you like the message don't be afraid of any connections to things that your chosen personality rejects. That probably didn't make much sense, but like I said, some reading to do.
A guy I work with just got the colourful lat eye on his arm with quite dark flamage around it. It looks quite good.
I'd like a guitar tab of pushit along my neckline or something. I already have wings covering most of my back almost completed, need it coloured and I'd like something written down my spine, maybe something toolish, I really haven't decided yet.
As for whether people tattoo's should mean something to them... all mine do but my partner just enjoys good art and loves tatt's. All of his were done while his mate was learning. And none of them have any real significance.
I just got another Tool inspired tat on my forearm in Sept...ill post pics soon. Its pretty tight. And we get the point Brightwell...band tats are lame. Some may say that about being a boy scout too =)
i don't know why it's sideways...
but you get the idea
thats the only tattoo in here that didnt make me loll. I like it.
I still regret getting a Hanson tattoo.
I've been working on a back tattoo similar to the spine but with various lotus flowers or something, i've been sitting on the idea since i was 18 just to make sure i'd be happy with it. I also want to incorporate some hieroglyphics into it.
A friend of mine at work said her friend just opened up a tattoo shop of his own. As of right now if the tattoo takes less than a half an hour it cost $50. Every full hour cost $100. His work looks pretty cool from what I have seen and I'm looking forward to scheduling an appointment. I'm wanting to get a Tool inspired one. Can't wait to get my paycheck on Tuesday, so I can figure out which day to plan it on.
I just want to get it in black and white and not too big. Probably get it either on the top part of my back or on my right arm depending on how it is drawn out.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has/ knows anyone with Tool tattoos? Or is anyone thinking of getting inked? Im thinking of getting some of their lyrics tattooed on me, something from Lateralus.
