I started to like tweak bird after a few shows. Isis is of course an amazing band too. Those are the only two openers for tool i've cared for. Then there was Madonna 'opening' up for tool at coachella in 2006. that was..................weird.
The first time I saw Tool, in 1994, The Flaming Lips did open for them. I remember being underwhelmed. Even then, it was all about the "spectacle" rather than the music for them. Just never clicked with me.

All about Melt Banana for me. I loved them so much I went to a headliner set of theirs here at the Troubadour. I liked Isis and Kinski too. Not sure who I'd want on this tour. Have to think it over.

yes scalpers are pieces of shit, but if he would have been online right as they went on sale he probably would have got some. you cant wait til the last minute. tool shows will sell out.. very quickly
anyone seen the deftones on this current diamond eyes tour?
i just got home from the Oklahoma City show,it was fuckin epic!
speaking of opening acts, the deftones show i just went to did not have any openers,it was 2 hours of tones! fuckin awesome,i hope TOOL does it too......
yeah personally i hope there isn't going to be an opening band. that would be awesome. prolly not gonna happen. but it would still be awesome.
First time i saw them, there was no opening act, and it was awesome that way. But next time the Melvins opened and it was ok, still rather no opener unless it was an awesome band like Katatonia.

I wouldnt mind seeing karnivool open. That might be pretty cool. Just really really hope its not gonna be another tweakbirdish type band.

I love Karnivool. They are definitely in my top 5 bands, and every Tool fan needs to buy both of their records...especially Sound Awake. However, I don't think they'll open for Tool. Why? Because they are really, really good. Ian Kenny's voice at this point in his career is frankly more powerful and more polished than Maynard's is at this point in his career. Also the music itself, while phenomenal, is very Toolish. Tool usually picks bands that sound much different from them, so that there is some contrast for the audience.
I would be absolutely thrilled if they did open though. That would probably be my top show, in fact.

"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
I would give... well, A LOT to see The Mars Volta open for Tool. While I'm dreaming, I'd love to see them bring the Flaming Lips back on tour with them, and have them play only stuff off the new album and pre-Soft Bulletin tracks (basically what they would've played when they toured with Tool way back when).
Also, Pelican would be cool.
Realistically, I'm just looking forward to being introduced to a new, interesting band that I haven't heard of but will hopefully love and smack myself for not listening to before (like with ISIS in 06).

if mars volta opened for tool, i'd most likely hang myself.
or, better option, just show up after those so called musicians left the stage.

I picked up Karnivool just based on your guys posts here. See the influence message boards can have?? It sounds pretty cool so far. Very much influenced by Tool.

Dont start talking about other bands - the mods are lurking.

me tooo. Looks like they might have some stuff worth actually purchasing.
I can't imagine they'd end a tour in Sacramento. How anti-climactic. Plus, why not make some $$$ in LA and sleep in your own bed the same night? Seems win-win for SoCal.

You'd definitely think so. But my biggest fear is they're just waiting to find some shitty, dust bowl of a festival to play at out in Pomona in the dead of summer with Linkin Park opening......

Uh, ahem....you're forgetting my first Tool experience when RATM opened at the 1st Coachella festival. Rage, the SECOND greatest band(behind Tool, not Slipknot) would be a sweet opener...hmm, they finish their UK tour on 6/12!...but, there's no way right?...
...does Junior still come here?...Is he going on this tour?...does he know if/when the latest would be to announce an L.A. date? ...or an opening act? *prays for Rage* *does Rage dance* *singing in the Rage*...ok, I'll stop
