I nerver heard of Tool in my 44 years of living until about 3 months ago. I heard an awesome song on the radio and my 14 year old son told me this is Tool. All of a sudden I was hearing Tool songs on the radio a lot. Then we bought Lateralus and 10,000 days about a month ago, my mind has been completely blown away ever since. I absolutely LOVE their music! Their own unique style and incredible musical talent, Maynard's unbelievable amazing voice and I really can't find any words to describe, I'm really speechless. Just want the band to know how much their music has enriched my life all of a sudden.
hey welcome aboard, you're in for a fantastic journey discovering all the occult and esoteric meanings contained within the artwork, songs, videos and tracklistings
don't forget to check out Puscifer
also lookup C.A.D, maynard's first band which featured Eddie Murphy on bass
make sure to check out Opiate, Undertow, and Ćnima ;)

welcome to tdn, no one here listens to tool. jk some are evil. most are cool. use the search function that doesnt work, and do lots of reading at other forums, and you will fit right in.
Wow guys. I've never seen anyone be so welcoming around here.
The first months are the best there is in the Tool phase.
it's gotten to the point where the community is really small now since an album hasn't come out for a long time...so we gotta make sure not to alienate the few new members we get :P
and yeah, discovering Tool is like discovering that you can put your pen0r into a girl's fur sandwich. at least for me, anyway.

It feels great to see somebody become 'sucked in' by Tool's magic :)
It seems it always takes some time for the listener to 'click' and open up for the huge message. You can listen to Tool like it was some crazy random stuff you don't really care about, then - Wow, there's SO MUCH behind.
I love SlamminSalmon's "Nobody here listens to tool". Seems we are in a very long awaiting phase, and noone could make four years with 10,000 Days on repeat :) But Tool surely can as well introduce to many awesome bands, allow you to discover what you've missed in music somewhere.
..And the albums won't get you bored. The songs are so rich in their structure, you will never know them from beginning to the end. Yesterday I was listening to The Grudge's final part (opening track from Lateralus) maybe 300th, maybe 500th time, idk, to finally write down the notes and really know every single drum hit Danny makes there.
Now I'll order myself a T-shirt with Lateralus Eye in the background and with the note score for The Grudge's outro solo :)
Wonder how much time will it take for You to 'take in' all they've done, incl. side projects. That time is golden.
EDIT: Speaking about community, where is Inner Eulogy? This thread needs some little evil ;D

Also also, welcome 3stars. Your enthusiasm is a wonderful thing. I hope you continue to dig and discover new wonders amongst Tool and company. Just don't let the weeds around here squash your experience. Navigating and dissecting Tool fans' opinions about anything (esp. tool) is practically a futile task. Just enjoy yourself some tasty tunes. :-P

Also: welcome 3stars

the meaning of vicarious is tricky to me, i always thought vicarious meant "strong', but, the actual definition is confusing. anyway, the song is VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have undertow, have only listened through it once while i was driving, couldn't focus on it to well. but the thoughts that came to my mind were that i liked it, I enjoyed listening to it, but i felt the songs were repeticious in sound, and so far on that album my favorite song is SOBER

that's a matter of opinion, but that topic has been beaten to death.

I had, like most people, listened to Tool in the Undertow days, but didn't really get heavy into them. I was one of those people that pretty much only knew Sober and song 69 (Disgustipated?). Years later, I'd heard Schism and liked it, but still wasn't really a fan.
I met a guy who was HUGE into Tool (a member here, but I don't know his username) and he tried to get me into them, but I was never all that interested. Last year, he wanted someone to go with him to their Dallas show and offered to buy my ticket if I would just go, so I went (can't beat that deal, huh?).
I had an absolute blast!
I claimed that even after the show, I wasn't any more of a Tool fan than I was before the show, but how could I explain all the Tool I was suddenly listening to?
Now this new summer tour popped up and my first reaction was, "YES, PLEASE!"
So this will only be my second show to attend, but I believe it's his seventh. Unless some strange force of nature somehow prevents it, I don't plan on missing a tour from this point forward.
With the quote below, 3Stars, you'll see that this forum also has a lot of people who are, subjectively seen, misguided.
10,000 Days is TooL's best album. Closely followed by Ćnima.
you're so funny roggs
edit: much like 10kd
