Like, a section in the bin where mods post about recent probed/banned users. Would include the probed/banned member, their alias (if he had one) and why they were banned and details of how long they are probed (if not banned). Would also make for great lulz.
And maybe a banned/ GI'ed section where they can go in and post w/o the regular members being able to post, only read. I bet that would be very entertaining, indeedy.
That would be pretty awesome. Way back in the day when there were only a couple banned members, there was a thread for each. I'd like to see that again.

too much work, plus i would no longer be able to quietly sweep bannings under the internettal rug
I just realized you could very easily do this with one page and a sql query. It would update itself automatically, so no works for you. Hell, I'll write it if you're that lazy... believe me, I've got the spare time.

that doesn't dismiss the fact that he want's to keep bannings under the rug - although it usually gets a day of attention in the bin anyway

It's more like most bannings simply aren't worth a thread. Woo, another alias gone. Everybody knows when someone cared about is banned anyway.

I don't follow. All you want is a list of people banned, not including a reason for the banning? Yeah it would be simple to list all banned users.
