Let me just say that I really enjoyed this show. The setlist was fairly predictable but very solid, and I thought the show sounded on point. I agree with some posters that Rosetta Stoned kind of killed the momentum a little bit, but the end bit was great. I'm from CT, so my friends had to drive quite a ways, but it was definitely worth it. I must say that I expected to encounter a lot of mass-holes, and I don't mean to knock the great state of MA, but there were quite a few. I talked to some cool people around me, but there were about 12 bros in the row in front of me, drunk off their asses and screaming while they shoved each other in excitement. After a song or two I just moved because I didn't want to get into a tussle telling them to calm down and watch the show. Why was the merch so ridiculously expensive? I've never seen band merchandise that expensive before at any of the shows I've attended.
Yeah, I live right by the casinos (and I work at one of them), so what I ended up doing it just getting a room at the Red Roof Inn, which is like 3 and a half miles from the venue. I went up there with my girlfriend, checked into the hotel at 3PM, hung out for a while, and we just drove up there to get our bearings straightened out so our anxieties wouldn't be getting us lost later on. I also left right after Vicarious, so I got out quite easily (I think I parked in Lot C or something like that).
Oh, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one that thought of staying at that hotel, because I saw a ton of people hanging around the lobby after the show wearing the TOOL shirts they were selling.
Everyone here has pretty much covered it. It was a beautful night after a day of rain in the area. I would like to say that if it wasn't for Tool I would have never gone to the Tweeter again. The police hassle you from the time you arrive. They are very aggressive and just looking for trouble. I don't know why anyone goes to concerts there. OK enough with the negativity. I hope we don't have to wait another five years for a show. They are definitely the best band on the planet. For all the first timers congrats, you got to see perfection last night. The sound was the best for any concert I've ever seen. Once again, Thanks to the gentlemen in Tool for making last night a memorable evening. So all, be well, stay well, Chainsaw88
You are afraid of Rosetta Stoned - that song is not a mood killer. It is fucked up! The concept between that song and Third Eye is very different. Third Eye is about trying to expand your mind, Rosetta Stoned is well, not about that at all.
I'm not referring to the subject matter of the song. They're worlds apart. Listen to the MUSIC. Very similar.
Rosetta @ 2:57 - That riff comes in and I can't help but sing "open my eyes...open my eyes...open my eyes...there we were."
And don't even tell me that Right in Two isn't the same as Pushit (Salival version). It even has the same Tabla breakdown!

THE SHOW was fan-tassstic... so real.... like I woke up in "Neverland"
I got there late "the pot" (heard stinkfist on my walk through to my seats and noticed that Maynards scream in SF was top notch) so the shirt was already off... but I think during Lost Keys he went off stage and popped on a neon orange hoodie and proceeded to sing/paraphrase the beginning of RSnd so fuckin tripped out stretchin words and shit I lost my mind and got abducted by TOOL... best song tonight for me.... although Jambi was so on and everything else.
after 10000 days the band stopped to chill and the crowd was initially like 'what the fuck happened/ is going on...holy cow' and then the lighters and some clapping, but it didn't get monsterously loud until M provoked us....he then said "Ok, you win....but you forget to brush your teeth again... awful case of halitosis"
the rest of the show was dope....Justin freaked the fuck out in Aenima. Adam was staring at everyone all at once...danny was a mechanical animal with a smile on his face most the time....yey, good show.
It took me 2 hours to get there, and I got cuaght in the middle of a motorcycle and 6-7 cop car chase in Mansfield center, but it was quite worth the effort to see my first Tool show.
I had to enjoy some drunk ramblings, and some goddamn retarded heavy girls dancing like...tools...for a bit, but it was otherwise wonderful. No serious assholes, though.
I enjoyed Isis, and the Maynardisms, and the visuals, but the drum and bass show was perfect. Danny hit every note and then a few more. The extra fills at the end of 46&2 where great. I'm a bass player, so I was watchign Justin very closely, and I was really impressed by his ability to reporoduce his tones live. Everytime he'd come through extra clear when the guitar wasn't roaring, I'd shit myself just a little.
I was in 10 E, on the aisle with friends, and we couldn't see Adam becuase of a pole. But he doesn't do much, so I didn't mind. I liked Justin's extra rocking out...he never used to do that.
My hand hurts from pounding the seats. Great show.
Dude that guy on the motorcycle flew by my car on my way there, driving on the wrong side of the road. Then about 5 cop cars came flying by chasing him, it was pretty amusing. I had a great time at the show!
I showed up at 3:30 to tailgate. Amongst dressing in a Tuxedo and cooking a 5 course meal for four of my most beloved friends, I also attended the show in Section 4 Row E seats 8 and 9.
you were sitting two rows in front of me. i saw you go to your seat and i said to my friend, "that guy is wearing a fucking tux!"
I'm still in shock!!!! Front ROW - NO One, in front of me except for a couple of security guards. The music was incredible. Maynard was beautiful! I was out of control jumping up and down but I couldn't help it, it was so intense. Every song was tight, and well performed.
**I have one question........ How did some people get backstage passes that's what I want to know?**
Anyway, the last time I saw them it was the exact opposite experience. I had lawn seats, we were on the bleachers at the very back of the field. We were rained on (yes Maynard did say those are the true fans, because were being poured on) but I still didn't like it too much. The show was no where near as good as this one.
I can't wait to see them again!!!!
Sec X, seat 33 and 34 with my new wife (we initially bonded over tool, so this was big for us).
Showed up late.. 4 hours from our house in maine, 3 accidents slowing traffic on the way (and her running into two old friends at wild harvest getting road snacks.. love you honey :D) Came in at the end of Isis.
First off, I just have to get this off my chest. ALL SEATED SHOWS SUCK. By that, I mean shows that are only seated. I wanted to move sooo bad, and only getting shuffle and sway in a one square foot area really kills it for me. Every time I really started feeling it and swaying it, I had to stop to avoid driving my neighbor crazy or flopping over the seat in front of me. I will never go to this venue again for a show I really want to see.
That said, there, I feel better. I thought sound quality was awesome at first.. I do think maynard got quieter as the set wore on though until the end when he seemed to just be getting overrun by the rest of the music. Which is ok, but not great.
Holy FUCK Danny was ripping it up from start to finish. I forget which song it was, but at the end of one song danny just walks out from behind his drums and sits down in the middle of the stage.. other three guys join him, and I think justin raises a lighter so we all do too.. that was beautiful. that's a whole lot of little lights in a dark, almost outdoor setting. kind of neat. the "mad scientist" roadies were really sweet too, I got a kick out of these guys in lab coats running around fixing stuff from time to time. edit; at the end of the show, Danny threw a couple of drum heads out into the crowd like frisbees.. I think he busted them, actually, which might be the reason for the break?
Visuals were great.. I thought it was really low grade CGI at first, but it got more interesting as things went on.. lasers were nice too, when they hit the roof supports it flashed and seemed a bit like fireflies. I was not high on anything (sigh) so maybe the visuals were better with slightly unclear vision ;)
I think Rosetta Stoned completely sucked for the first 3/4 of the song. They were off, and maynard could not pull off the voice box well at all... most of the time it sounded like he just had distortion on his voice, and for me it's that jagged bassy undertone in the sound that brings it home, and it just wasn't there except for in a few bits near the end. No gut impact there. I suspect the cold was making things hard for him though, I remember what that's like and it was a little dry in the lungs just skipping around like a freak.
Jambi though, 46 and 2, and lateralus were truly smoking. Wow. I've seen tool for every tour since undertow, and those three were just solid, stellar, beautiful, raging performances without a doubt.
I miss third eye though, and I agree that pushit or really practically anything else at all would have easily replaced rosetta stoned and made the whole show a lot better. I was, however, pleased that wings for Marie was played.. I really dig that duo.. and that was when the laser kicked in to spice things up a bit since it can be monotonous after awhile on its own, I admit. So it became pretty fucking beautiful when you add the visuals in.
Afterwards.. well, nothing like waiting 2.5 hours to start a 4 hour drive home, let me just say that. But it was worth it.
Next time though, if there isn't a general admission section, I think I'll skip it and find a date that has one, even if I have to drive further to go.

Reason: reason for danny's break
I was with my lady, and my best friend with his. We all love Tool equally, and I can't imagine a better way to experience my favorite music than with my favorite people. I was getting hugged for the entire concert; I can't thank Tool for that, but I will thank them for the show.

Here's something really funny. People consistently complain about Tool's music being the same as certain spots during certain songs, yet they also complain when the tour set up (MYSELF INCLUDED) is NOTHING like the Lateralus tour! Funny, isn't it.

My 3rd show on this leg of the tour. The sound was better than Chicago, but the Tweeter Center is never loud enough as other people have pointed out.
As always, no surprises with the setlist or the performance. The band sounds fine except for Maynard. The visuals were better at this venue because they were displayed on screens rather than just on the floor screen. The lighting in addition to the visual projections displayed on the floor does not work at all as far as I can see. But it was good to see some new images for Rosetta Stoned and 46 & 2.
I still think these shows aren't as good as the Lateralus shows, and I don't think the price should've gone up as much as it has. To me, it's not worth seeing more than once or twice.
I am calling the radio stations tomorrow and will lobby for money.... so we can fly a banner around Verizon Wireless Arena in Manch that states, "Change your fucking set list you tool bags!"
Am I the only one who LOVED watching Adam? Who cares if he wasn't moving, if I had that setup all for myself, to make my own sounds that I created, and 10 000 people (just a random guess) watching me I would be doing the exact same thing. Besides, I thought he looked fucking cool.

ok now I am seriously confused. I think my ears are fucked up. And that is a problem. I was in section 5 row P and everything sounded horrible. It didnt sound like Tool. The guitar sounded too high. The levels were all off...I don't know enough about music production to really pin it down. It did NOT sound like the album and I DONT get why. I went to the orpheum show and it sounded absolutely amazing. I listened to Aenima as soon as I got to the car...and it sounded NOTHING like what I had just heard. Is it possible there is a bad couple of seats in the tweeter center? I really am at a loss. I came 6 hours for this show all the way from college.
Here's my reply... You were tripping on acid and you can't trust your mind, why would you expect to trust your ears?? I was up in section 13 and it sounded perfect except a couple bad notes... Next time, try a couple beers!
I had to enjoy some drunk ramblings, and some goddamn retarded heavy girls dancing like...tools...for a bit, but it was otherwise wonderful. No serious assholes, though.
Funny that you don't like to see people dance like tools, I do, I love to see people get into the show, no matter what size they are, it's awesome! I know some people rather just stand there, but why would it bother you if they were having fun and dancing?

lol dude i wasnt tripping. the kids around me were. i just smoked. nevertheless i think figured it out and that my ears are damaged. im going to get them checked out. as well as probbaly have to wear earplugs for all concerts from now on. i played my computer 2.1 set of logitechs really loud last night (Tool, obviously) and I replicated what I was hearing to an extent. It wasn't really Tool sounding bad, it was physical pain in my ear. It absolutely sucks. What sucks even more is that I had to find out at a Tool/Isis concert. That is complete bullshit. I'm thinking its possible that Isis did somethig to me...but its probably just that I listen to music too loud on my headphones far too often. Whatever it is...life isn't worth living without good music loudly so I need to get this fixed...even if it means cutting down on how often I get to experience loud, good, Tool.
The reason i think the people around me agreed with me were 2 were on shrooms and my friend was tripping so I kind of convinced them that they were hearing what I was hearing when they werent. Then when they basically regurgitated what I was saying (that the levels were off, that the guitar sounded too high, that the bass wasn't deep enough) I got my observations reinforced when in fact they were just tripping balls. Maybe I should have known when the acid kid was telling me it sounded like country-fied Tool....
Does anyone have any pictures or know of a site where I might find some?
My girlfriend took alot of pictures, most of them are a little blurry, but some are pretty good. She also took a video of Wings and Lateralus. Once she sends them to me, i'll put up a link or something.
great show... I'm going to have to check out Isis now. had kinda shitty seats (section 15, row d,) but got the full visual effect from there. took my pregnant wife (her first tool show) and she loved it. (taking pregnant wife meant I was sober, as I was driving.)
- had to spend $70 on a hoodie because my dumb ass was thinking i wouldn't be cold.
- really want to see Right in Two, hopefully they play it tuesday night
- Who goes to a fucking concert to talk to their buddies the entire show? These 3 fucking dumbwits a row ahead of us were just talking about random shit during the entire show.
See you Tuesday in Manchester. This time I'm going with a good friend who always goes to concerts with me. Definitely will be getting fucking wasted for this one.
From where me and my fiancee were sitting the sound was terrible. Remarkably so. It was her first Tool show and she was pretty dissapointed, and trust me, we are both very avid fans. I watched a few of those clips on youtube and the sound was way different. I guess we got a dead spot.
The bass was almost non-existant where we were, and Maynard seemed drowned out by Adam. It was also not loud enough. I didn't even leave with ringing in my ears. I go to a concert to feel the music, more than hear it. If I wanted to sit and listen to it I'd throw on a CD. I want to feel the bass in my chest and my heart.
The show was decent. It was fricken cold and it seemed to effect everyone including Maynard. The crowd was great, everyone was very nice from what I experienced. There were a couple of idiots in the parking lot yelling moronic things. Fucking losers.
The set list was poor. I know they can't vary that much because of the visuals that go along with the songs but this was the most generic list they could have possibly picked. Seriously, switch it up a bit in Manchester, please.
Oh and I agree with the people who said RS sucked, because it did, and shouldn't be played in concert. The first 7 minutes(in concert) are like listening to static on a television. Right in Two would have filled this spot just fine.
I really wish the sound was better, this show could have been incredible. Maynard was dancing around all over the place, even Adam was walking around. Justin was headbanging and stomping. Danny was amazing.
I hope Manch vegas can find their volume knob and turn it towards concert rather than elevator music.
Also, did anyone notice that he sang some of the songs an octave lower than usual? Maybe this was because he's still recovering from being sick?
edit: and fuck the merch, I don't know who sets those prices but I would have spent a lot more money in support of them, if I didn't feel like I was bending over and waiting for the instertion of a corkscrew.
I drove 8 hours from Philly (thanks Connecticut traffic) to see that show...after seeing the Camden show the night before. AND IT WAS W ORTH IT! Best fucking band of our time. ever. we were speechless.
Funny that you don't like to see people dance like tools, I do, I love to see people get into the show, no matter what size they are, it's awesome! I know some people rather just stand there, but why would it bother you if they were having fun and dancing?
I don't mind people dancing, tons of people where, its just that these were the types that simultaneously make asses of themselves and get in the way. Dance all you want, but I paid to see Tool, so don't dance between my eyes and the band. One of these chicks had to have been like 6'5".
great show, fun visuals, fair sound, excellent track selection (which even seemed to tell a story - if you're astute enough to picture it), perfect pressence, maynard's awesome, justin was on, danny took it further (with all of his alchemy, heh), and adam jones controlled every tone. this was an amazing experience for me. i was pleased to see the visuals during each song, many of which fell into my theories - tool songs aren't so random - or open ended... sorry to break it to you all.
but, yeah... it's nice to hear that everyone paid soooo much attention to maynard's many maynardisms, while not even mentioning that "rosetta stoned" was still off (yet the best they've done it live, as far as i know), and he sang the wrong lyrics to end out "10,000 days". that is to say ...he ended "wings for marie" and "10,000 days (wing part 2)" the EXACT SAME WAY. not a mention, huh? maybe these tool "fans" don't know their fuckin' songs... huh? they have some good tunes, check 'em out before buying tickets.
(which essentially means that you all helped to prohibit more knowledgable and devoted fans from seeing their favorite band play - this has happened to me at least 4 times - i'm a bitter asshole, but everyone still missed something seemingly obvious - just like to point that out)
way... to... go...
fuck, even my girlfriend noticed that one immediately.

IT. ROCKED.
This is my 3rd Tool show and in my opinion the best that I have ever seen. I was in Section 8, Row G and I could hear every damn thing without a problem. I could also see everything perfectly, it was awesome. The last time they came to the Tweeter Center, I think they were actually pissed because we had booed that Swedish band so badly. That time (I believe it was at the end of September 2001) Maynard didn't say much and when he did it seemed a little hostile. Isis, however, was great! Like a little Tool with keyboards! It was my first time ever hearing them and I was quite impressed- much better than the other opening acts in the past that did not complement Tool's fans' intelligence or Tool's sound in any way. My favorite part was seeing all of the lighters and cell phones lighting up the place like it was the middle of the fucking day!!! And then when the pounding on the chairs began... and when Maynard challenged us to go louder... that was freaking amazing! Ending with Aenima was also great, it was the first Tool song I ever heard so it was a little nostalgic for me!
At first I was surprised to see an all-white set, but I soon I realized how awesome it was going to turn out. The first or second song, I forget during which, it was all yellow in the back and on the stage... it was a little reminiscent of the 70's TV dance shows. Then, when they started putting the graphics on the screens behind Danny and Maynard and started projecting them and lasers onto the floor... that was sick!
There was so much energy in that place, and in my opinion, Tool's performance was perfect. I can't wait to see them on Thursday in CT!!!

Dude where were you? I experienced similar things and I came to the conclusion my ears were fucked up. Section 5? Did you ask anybody around you what they thought? I was section 5 Row P and everybody around me thought it sounded good but I heard levels being off (as you described). I thought that it was the music being loud that hurt my ears and then I couldnt hear it correctly...but as you said I didn't even leave with ringing in my ears. Now I'm not sure what to think.

Oh I hear ya! There was a real crazy girl next to me - I was able to tune her out though because she was next to me and I was front row up against the barracade I just didn't look at her. she was so obnoxious, she actually asked the security guard in front of her in front of the stage if he had any weed!!!!!!!! He just said 'No Smoking' She was so annoying. But if I had her blocking me and acting like that I'd be really mad.

Sec 4 row AA across the aisle from sec 5 (near the pillar), so not that far from you. The bass sounded very tinny with hardly any low end, Maynard was drowned out by everyone else, adam was loud a lot of the time and I could barely hear bass drums. I swear we were in a dead spot. Go listen to some of those things posted on youtube, especially the ones near the stage. Totally different concert.
And to the AMtheMA person. Maybe people don't dissect every single fucking word and note that the band sings/plays eh? Yes, we heard him sing the same part at the end of both songs. Maybe he meant to? Maybe he fucked up on Aenema too (which he did, he switched the fuck L ron hubbard part with the fuck all you junkies part). Did you notice that? Maybe you aren't a true tool fan if you didn't mention it.
not a mention, huh? maybe this tool "fan" named AMtheMA don't know their fuckin' songs... huh? they have some good tunes, check 'em out before buying tickets.
not much i can say about the show ....except it was AWESOME !!!! fuck PA we were so much louder...the crowd was great i didnt run in to an asshole anywhere..everyone was having a great time...i have .seen many shows at tweeter and it is a great venue i traveled 2 hours plus to see any show here but without question i would travel 5 hours for tool....loved rosetta stoned, and 10k ....lateralus ROCKED....maynard as always was incredible....
seen them 5 times in 2002 and they have yet to dissapoint, would like to see the set list change up a bit...had the same set list for everyshow i saw in 02 and they seem to so far for this tour also..... love to see pushit live and jimmy live would just be amazing.... would love to even hear them do H. there are just soooooo many songs that would be great to hear live. i couldnt list them all.
Lateralus tour was 114-119 minutes long depending on which of the 8 bootlegs I have from that tour. This show was 1 hr 48 mins, so I really don't understand the complaints on the length of the show. Rosetta was amazing, the show was amazing. You just saw TOOL, and you know you LOVED IT!
We were 2B seats 14, 15, 16. Were you the girl with long brown hair or the one with blonde pigtails? I couldn't hear Maynard very well. Could you?
I'm the one with the 'long brown hair'. The girl with the blonde pigtails was driving us crazy! She was very drunk & high! She actually asked the security guard in front of her if he had any weed! She almost got thrown out.
I could hear him singing pretty well, but could not make out much of what he said when he spoke! I was just soooo excited to see them that close! I wish I could have heard all the 'Maynardisms' better though. The vocals could have been louder though. I was just insane, I was so excited.
I don't think anyone mentioned Maynards comment when we were all screaming to prove that we were louder than Pittsburg...
he said "ok you're louder" but seriosuly, someone's breath really stinks... halitosis man"
I thought that was pretty funny.
The show ROCKED. I have a thing for outdoor shows, looking up at the sky... it's powerful to me.
I do wish it was louder though. I also thought the crowd wasn't into it as much as other shows I've been to, but it could've been some of the deadbeats around me. I can't comprehend how people can go to a show and just sit there like zombies.
Highlights for me... give me my wings in 10,000 days.... SO POWERFUL. I wonder if it's hard for Maynard to preform those 2 songs or if he's become numb to it. I felt like everyone singing at once was a way of honoring his mother. So beautiful! Oh and the Praying for rain part on Aenima.. they echoed that part and it gave me chills!
I'm going to rutherford, nj and nassau in long island. Hope to hear parabola at one of the shows. I'd also love to hear more powerful Maynard screams and longer notes though I'm sure it's so hard to do when you're touring so much.
But honestly, I can't complain. It fuckin rocked! Set list rocked too!
