That's pretty good, but the vocals aren't mixed very well. Maybe if there was a duet with another singer in the right channel it would be better.
still one of the better pot covers i have heard though. guitars sound great too.

What's a trap?
What does that have to do with anything?

I think you really captured the underlying emotion that Tool couldn't bring to the forefront in their version.
You not only brought it out, you also emphasized it.
Great job.

I'm sorry but this needs some work, timing is way off and the singer sounds like he took a few shots of nyquil before singing this, he's about a 1/2 step too slow. The drummer just stops playing at the buildup towards the end (i understand that is a bitch to play though).
Keep working on this and post a new version in about 6 months and i'll bet it sounds much better. I'm not trying to be a dick at all, just honest. You did say criticism was welcome.

Dude, get a new vocalist, or tell him to quit smoking.
That was not the pot.
And i think aventari was thinking that you posted this as a joke, that this is not your band, thus ''IT'S A TRAP.''
The timing needs work, your vocalist neeeeeeeds to get off the tip of his tongue and put some backbone/cock'm'balls into it; i am thinking the drums could use a heavier hand and a tune. The bass needs a louder amp, or some quality mixing, you seem to be playing into one another, rather than feeding off each other.
But there are some moments.
1.5/10, it's the Yeovil Town of The Pots.
But, and this is a big BUT, you have a start. Starts are the hardest parts. Believe in your start and don't share it with anybody until you all stop and say '''that's it, that's the one.'' And, just for me, could you all shout ''AussieAussiAussi" when you do get it?
Please post it again in a year please.

Wow, a mutilation is putting it pretty mildly. Are you guys really serious? You need to not try to cover TOOL songs as they are all very difficult pieces and to me this sounded like a bunch of noise. It's humbling I know to realize what they do is out of most people's league. I can only play drums up to Undertow and a couple from Aenima. After that Danny has left the universe. My opinion is to not try to cover a TOOL song unless you have all the musicians, decent singer included, to pull their stuff off. And it all starts with the drums.

im sorry to say this but I'm just being honest, that was just.. off... everything was off, the bass, the two guitars, the vocals... drums. it sounded like everyone was struggling to stay on the same page... you need to work on your timing and counts... thats all you need. its like theres no sense of beat. i tried, but i couldnt find for one real second everyone on the same beat... its just not very good at all... but since you have everything you need (guitar, bass, vocals. drums) for a band, you can start practicing as one.

i cant believe some of you think its good, completely no offense, practice makes perfect, but there wasn't one second where everyone was playing on the same timing... if i was some teeny bopper doper chick who "ABSOLUTLEY LOVES!" the pot (typical radio head, its specific because I had an experience...) i still wouldn't recognize it... you guys need to practice. simple as that. learn your counts, until you do that, don't try to cover tool songs because that is what Tool are masters of, among many other things. All your doing is making your band look bad.

it's pretty much dead on. i like the way you've gave it your own twist istead of copying it directly. the only thing i would change is bringing the guitar down a little. it was overpowering that jaw-dropping vocal performance.

That's the sign of a good cover.

ok.. I guess it's time to clear this up a little..
None of us know/knew how to play the pot.
As the drummer for this track I must confess I've barely played any drums in my lifetime.
None of us even live on the same lump of land.
The vocals and one of the guitar tracks were recorded by fellow tdner Rubb.
The bass was recorded by tdner Lucydog.
The other guitar track and drums were recorded by myself.
None of us knew our parts going into it and we were all bound by a 5 minute learning timeframe and first take is final take rule.
So there you have it.

It just goes to show that you can't "rush" into learning any Tool song.
I know about four or five Tool songs. I've been playing Lateralus for about 6 months or so, and I'm FINALLY able to play it and have it sound relatively close to Adam Jones' work. I'll have it mastered in another 6 months or so I imagine. Maybe I'm a slow learner. I can play Jimmy, (some of) Stinkfist, (most of) The Patient with EBA intro, and all of Ticks and Leeches and Lateralus. That's it for me. I have a drummer friend who's showed interest in playing Ticks with me. He's a pretty damn fine drummer, but he's still intimidated by the all mighty DC.
Tool songs are hard to play. Sometimes a musician snob will tell you it's easy to play Adam Jones guitar parts. What they mean to say is, "It's easy to play some of the parts to almost any of Tool songs." Key word "some." For instance, the beginning part of the Grudge for guitar is totally easy, as well as Stinkfist, but try to pull off all those rhythm changes without an adept drummer and then tell me how "easy" it is to play whole damn thing.
