oh well i cant remember anymore. It was like a cool backwards setlist. they opened with aemina and closed with stinkfist. maynard said "please enjoy some buttsex on the way home." then they played stinkfist. they played Metalica's Orion half way through Lateralus, Kirk Hammet was there. oh there was a cool flying helecopter thing maynard was holding then it flew. it had lights. there were no lasers. i really wanted lasers... i was stoked to hear Third Eye.
That look right? Was the intro you spoke of for Flood or Schism? Cuz I know Adam's been doing a lead in riff to Schism lately (that i personally fucking dig, don't know why, i just love it).
Aenima as an opener does sound pretty cool. I had expected this show would get The Pot, :-/ But FLOOD is always a treat in my mind.
Where is the review second for this tour SadSummerSea... HUH??? Let's give these people a formal place to spill the beans, shalllawhay? ;)

Interesting that there were no lasers. Was any of the lighting new at all? Was it the same single long screen behind the band as the last US tour?
Yes. jwb is a kind and generous person, =P You should link those pics here too soos everyone can sees. :)

Dissolving and reforming so quickly I seem only to flicker.

Haha, yes. I left a Youtube comment that he should fly that thing at the show... he was probably bringing it anyway but thats cool if he read and obliged.
Digging the reverse setlist, you can't really go wrong with that. Anything new in Flood or is that the "2010" version still? I expect they've tweaked it a little more, that's what they do...
Only shame is that Intolerance wasn't played, but hey, as long as they are playing Third Eye I should just shut my damn mouth.

Cool, I figured they wouldn't play that unless as a setlist opener. Can't wait to find a bootleg.
Could you pm me if you find one please?

I might be in the minority but I really love the look of the band's stage setup without lasers, just lights. Lasers can be fun but there's something really authentic and ethereal and warm about a good conventional lights display. I dunno. It reminds me of the Lateralus era stage setup where it was just lights and projections against a colorful backdrop.
what's more unimpressive is how the only change to the setlist is the order in which the songs are played O_O they could've at least played You Lied, or Sober instead of Flood
what gives? they're playing in hawaii of all places again after some years, on their way to australia, and they don't feel inspired enough to bring something different to the table, other than a permutation of the previous setlist?

new album sux called it
We have this discussion all the time... the band is too conservative with their setlists nowadays, but its not news. There were a few surprises glimpsed in that video MJK posted but unfortunately none of them materialized at the Hawaii show. Third Eye is sick though, and before last summer they hadn't rocked The Patient since like 2006. So maybe they'll still weave Sober / Intension + Right In Two / Intolerance / You Lied into the setlists at BDO & sideshows.
I'm not gonna entertain the theory that they don't touch a good chunk of their material anymore because MJK can't sing it, as there's a bunch of stuff he can still rip up live. Aenima, Schism & Jambi are all great songs, but by now I would go to see a show of nothing but the deep cuts, instrumentals and long untouched stuff (I'm not even talking the shit with hard vocals) in the absence of those anyday. Perhaps we just need to wait until the next album for them to dissolve this ''greatest hits'' show and mix things up a little more again...

What they do play they always do well, so it could just as much be a matter of them settling on a tight cluster of song choices and simply wanting to refine the live show on them as much as possible, who knows I guess.
