Over on FourthEye they mentioned Opeth was an alternative choice as opener for this tour. DOH! I'm choosing to believe this is a good sign that they only want the opener playing 20-30 minutes...which would be only 2 or 3 songs for Opeth, hah.
Well Junior, I may have been wrong about the venue for the California show, but I'm pretty sure the highly anticipated sequel you are referring to here is Iron Man 2.
Yeah, it's Iron Man 2.
I do hope they are done with them in time. Movie shoots are notorious for missing deadlines.
Does anyone know if they are designing a new stage or just using the old stage from 10,000 Days. I'm wondering if this is a actually a NEW tour or just a continuation of the 10,000 Days tour.
I ran into some of the house crew from the Pearl today on our day off at the Palms. They were surprised to see me since they didn't know I'm with Duran Duran. I don't think the Pearl crew expected to see me again this year.
Junior, Just curious but how long in advance does the band let you know about the setlist, set length, extended music etc. ?? Obviously they have to let you know so that you can practive synching the lighting. I know that you can not reveal any songs(I dont want to know anyway because I love surprises which is why I will be leaving this site on July 17th) Thanks for all the info !

I have the Grand Conjuration stuck in my head right now. I doubt it though. They just went through the US in May/June and are off to Europe festivals IIRC. Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster Tool and Opeth would strait up rape!

Damn, that would have been sweet. Maybe next time.

It depends. They've given us some inkling of what they might want to do this time, but we still don't have any sort of official list yet.
In the past (when the set used to change once in awhile) we used to find out as late as during the opening act. These days, if there is a change we usually find out late in the afternoon.
I think we'll know the probable setlist sometime next week.

Wow, So they keep everyone in the dark till last minute? Thats crazy... Or do you think its more along the lines of them rehearsing many songs and then they make up their minds on what to play the week of the show?
Still thinking about how sweet a TOOL w/Opeth show would have been.
Just got home and popped in Ghost Reveries for the first time in about a year. Fucking good record.
"23 June, 2009 (05:44pm)
MORE TOOL TOUR DATES
8/4/09 - Kingston, Ontario - K Rock Center
8/22/09 - Pomona, CA - Epicenter 09 Festival (Pomona Fairgrounds)"

Any more?
Yeah, Blair emailed 'em to me but made me promise not to give them out for another week or so.
Would hoping for a different set be setting myself up for disapointment or might their be a good chance we will see some noticable differences between the last tour's setlist and the new setlist. Any thoughts?
I'm holding out that this tour will be a collection for the true fans, with the best ones they would only share occasionally on the last tours. You know - flood, pushit, cold and ugly - that sort of stuff!

My roommate is playing Reverie/Harlquin Forest on drums right now haha

i really hope they rotate a few songs every night like the lateralus setlists (especially 01). i am hitting atlanta, fairfax and all points west. i am sure we will get at least some songs that haven't been played since 02 or earlier.
are you suprised with the inkling junior?
also, do you think the light/video show will progress this tour since there hasnt been too much time to rehearse or plan?
cant wait to see the new stuff in store for this tour!

I dont know about the rest you but im hoping Eulogy makes the setlist, at least for dallas. By the way, what are your thoughts on some material from Salival as being the reworked stuff or possible covers?
Not sure how I missed this for the past 15 years, but I just heard a live, ACOUSTIC version of Sober on the radio this morning.
Anyone know what bootleg or single this is from?

You sure it's not just the Staind/Aaron Lewis version?

Good lord! I hope not.
Reception was a little spotty and all, but if I mistook Aaron Lewis for Maynard I should be put in a barely padded room with 'Been awhile' on repeat until I agree to give up my Dallas tickets to a real fan.

that's kinda true...
and bet it was Staind......
Please turn over your super cool Tool Army patch and (worthless) T.A. laminate - today.
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
Did we ever find out those last few bands yet to be announced for the Pomona show? I believe it said 12 bands total and we knew of 10. I think I'm still in denial that they chose an outdoor festival in hot ass Pomona as their only CA date. I'm needing a small nudge to go out and actually get these tickets already. It's like buying them is full defeat and admission/acceptance that they really aren't coming here (SF Bay Area). Once I buy them though, the countdown begins!
Just grinned and bared Aaron Lewis "Live at the Borgata" in AC doing Sober, and to my extreme pleasure that also was definitely not what I heard this morning.
Search continues. Going back in...

All right, so I'm an idiot. I'll admit that.
But, in my defense, apparently Staind released an album called 'The Singles: 1996-2006' which has a live acoustic cover of Sober on it, AND Comfortably Numb. Point being, why the fuck did TOOL and Pink Floyd agree to let these douche bags put their songs on a Staind official release?
And, yes, I did mistake Aaron Lewis for Maynard. But the <cough> reception was bad <cough> this morning. Windows were rolled down. I was <cough> a bit hungover <cough>.

I'm not exactly surprised, but I don't know what else I can say about that.
Lighting and video is progressing at this very moment. The production loaded-in to a soundstage on Friday. The rest of the lighting crew spent Saturday getting the bugs out while I was still out with Duran Duran doing the final show of their tour at the Orange County Fair (and fielding questions about the Tool touring rig via phone and email). The video department has been working since Friday, as well. I got to the soundstage around noon on Sunday and left around 9pm. For me, today was mostly about getting my bearings with the system, re-familiarizing myself with buttons and faders I last touched over a year and a half ago, and then patching in the new elements. We are planning to work on the show Monday and Tuesday 10am-10pm, and Wednesday from 10am-2pm, at which point it all has to get shoved into the trucks bound for Denver. Over the next few days we should be able to alter what we already had to make it a bit fresher, and hopefully be adding some new songs and maybe even resurrect 1 or 2 from earlier in the tour. It's all going to depend on what kind of news we get from the band rehearsal, which is taking place across town at another soundstage. Our stage manager (Eric) has been our conduit, braving the LA traffic as he drives back and forth between the 2 regions of town bringing us news like some sort of mythical horseman.
Right now, my understanding is that we will use our entire production in Denver, as we are loading-in the night before the show. For the APW festival we are taking in the major elements of the show, and utilizing the festival production for the rest. Lollapalooza is still being worked out. I don't know the full details of that one, but it should be decided this week, and will probably be similar to how we do APW. The Pomona festival (whatever that one is called) will be our full production, too.
All I know for now. Big day tomorrow, I reckon. I'm hopeful it will be productive.
Love getting these updates Junior. Thanks for all you've done here.
EDIT: Thought of a question for you. Have you heard any rumblings about the possibility of any additional shows being added around the Pomona date or is it still your understanding that it's all done being announced?
