I'm really surprised they didn't play 46 and 2.

Intolerance is a cool song but it's got nothing on Flood.

How has the extended section of Lateralus done with a hip-hop group? Were the vocals on Intention?

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks

The two guys stood in front of their mac's and made some attempted noise to sound like drums to match Danny's rhythm perhaps. It was much shorter than last night's drum-off. In addition, when they finished, Maynard offered them each a swig from the bottle and they took it. Maynard then joked that they left the outside of the bottle top all wet.

SWEET more hip-hop Tool. Bringing rap metal back. No sarcasm at all, Hawkman on Reflection and beat-boxing groove in Opiate are two of my favs. If anyone can pull it off Tool can...

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks

So i didn't believe my ears when Intension started. I thought it was either Reflection or something new (blame the jack!) About halfway through i realized what was happening and I literally almost vomited. So kick ass.

RIT was sweet, and seeing both nights really made it the best experience ever. I would have rather heard Intolerance again (rather than Flood) but I'm not complaining. Shit was wack.

My belief has been restored. TOOL live may be the greatest thing since orgasms.

Both, but mainly the Laterlus "remix" which sounds horrid. Why did they bring those guys out? Even the guy from Wovenhand would have been better.

^^ yeah its totally preference. i have seen flood twice last tour that is the main reason why i have a little bias toward intolerance because monday was the first time hearing that song live

He can actually do any of their songs now. You just have to accept that he'll never, ever, ever be doing a 1:1 comparison again as far as screaming goes.

But Crawl Away is one I could actually see them still doing. And holy hell, would I kill to hear that one.

After hearing him nail Intolerance this time around, I'm not too worried about how any of the other older songs would sound adjusted to his vocal needs/restrictions in the live environment.

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks

Maynard is pretty clever at using distortion to modify the parts he doesn't want to do...I don't think his vocal ability is hindering any songs besides Ticks & Leeches and maybe The Grudge.

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks

It would royally piss off a lot of people, but I could see them doing The Grudge with Maynard basically omitting the long scream towards the end. He could also easily just distort that part as well.

Although he WAS doing a pretty impressive and long scream in Stinkfist at the very beginning of the 10,000 Days tours back in 06. He did it at almost every show on those first few legs.

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks

I know at least some of it is in English and figure it's most likely from a different song he's on. Thought somebody more familiar with his work might have an idea.

Re: 06.28&29.2010 - Denver, CO @ Red Rocks

I hope to god and baby jesus that they have "intolerence" and "the patient" back in the line-up come the San Diego show. They need to give "Vicarious" and "Schism" a rest for a bit. Good songs...don't get me wrong, but anyone who's seen TOOL in the last five years live has heard these more than enough I think. Put "The Grudge" in place of "Schism" and "Rosetta Stoned" in place of "Vicarious". "46&2" could use a breather as well...replaced by "H.". Seeing TOOL do anything live is sick, but the boys must be tired of playing the songs I just named over and over again by now.

There is no way Maynard's voice can hold up to The Grudge..

I disagree.

There are some Tool songs that you have to scream...

Like the ending of The Grudge for example...

Not sure he'd be able to do Hush or Jerk-Off very well either.

Do you guys think he would be able to hit the high part of Parabola? I feel like he wouldn't be able to.. since he can't do the ending of Vicarious.

Ticks and Leeches would be the easiest song for him live, as every time they've done that song live he uses vocal distortion effects on his voice. It was amusing when I saw them play it live in Sacramento, a bunch of idiots were saying "Wow his voice sounds so intense, look he has to sit down for this song." I don't see how you can't tell the difference between his real screaming and something synthesized, but whatever. Idiots. I've seen the song twice live and the second time I saw it, his effects briefly cut out and you could hear him sweetly singing "my blood is bruised and borrowed". H seems like something he could do live if he just sang "I DON'T MIND!!" rather than screaming it.

I don't see how you can't tell the difference between his real screaming and something synthesized, but whatever. Idiots. I've seen the song twice live and the second time I saw it, his effects briefly cut out and you could hear him sweetly singing "my blood is bruised and borrowed". H seems like something he could do live if he just sang "I DON'T MIND!!" rather than screaming it.
What show were you at the second time? I'll check it out, heh.

If he's singing it through distortion, then they could possibly pull it off. That dude's voice is still there in the midrange. But the high notes he'll have problems with....I would be really surprised if we ever see The Pot again. I think that song wins for most Maynard mistakes and they only played it for a year or so.

Parabola and Crawl Away are two other songs I can't really picture him doing either.

I don't really mind if Maynard can't blast the screaming parts of the songs live anymore. If that's what determines the songs that he chooses to put in the line-up for setlists then we defineately won't here some of our favorites live ever again. Adams guitar and Dannys drums never have a problem matching the intensity of what we hear on the discs...I just want to hear the music live again. You don't have to scream Maynard...I won't hold it against you..just mix up the setlist so we can hear the music.

I'm just glad Third Eye is back...take what you can get I guess.
