They don't nominate songs that aren't released for radio play. Therefore, 10,000 days/Wings or Jambi are not up for nominations. The other song that would be is The Pot, but I think we can take our chances with Vicarious. It's a great song that's been on radio for 6+ months. People know the song that are not necessarily Tool fans.

These were my exact thoughts when I saw Tool over the summer, Confield. The place was beyond sold out, but as you mention; Schism, Aenima, Stinkfist and Sober were the only songs that got a big reaction out of the crowd while so many people stood lifeless and baffled during songs like Jambi and Rosetta Stoned. I lost faith in so many "Tool fans" that evening......I know there are those of us who look deeper into the music, but you are exactly right about Tool being radically popular for all the wrong reasons.
|
People liking Tool for all the wrong reasons is an opinion. That means that you're incorrect in your assumption. It's just how you feel, it's not a fact. I love Tool because of the odd time signatures and their ability to work within them. I love Tool because Maynard creates some of the most intense vocal melodies EVER created. I love Tool because there isn't a rock drummer better than Danny Carey in my OPINION and I doubt anyone will ever change that. I am open to that possibility however. I love Tool because of the way they have intertwined art, music, magick, imagery, hidden meaning, symbolism, religion, iconography, and they have forced me to look beyond the surface. These are reasons that *I* like Tool. They move me emotionally like no other group of people on the planet. They are *MY* reasons, not anyone else's. Enjoy the music for reasons that *YOU* like them. Don't be affected by reasons that other people choose. Enjoy the moment and stop acting like you are better than someone else because you "get it". If you were better than someone else, you'd be using your energy positively, not the opposite.
Just to be clear, the reasons I like Tool are all opinions, I don't state them as fact. I am happy that people enjoy Tool for their own reasons. If I was Tool's only fan, I would still like them as much as I do now. I could care less what other people think of my favorite artist.

Well, I like Tool for many of the same reasons you do and I don't think I am any better than anyone else because I get it. It's just an observation....and yeah, I could give a shit what other people think of them myself, but it bothers me when I stand way in the back admiring every song, while those with seats near the front are more intersted in the beer that they are drinking and talk on their cell phones.

It means tool win, they stay true to themselves the fans and the music and still excel within the mainstream musical scene in every way.
Now my question, as i never watch the grammys. Do they broadcast the entire segment including every single nomination/grammy or do they only show the really popular ones?

pretty much the popular ones.
anyways i see the only one that would maybe win over TOOL would be Everyday is exactly the same by NIN. the SOAD song that is nominated IMO is the shittest SOAD song i have ever heard and i really like them.

It would be downright insulting if tool lost to buckcherry or wolfmother. SOAD and NIN would be a lot better to lose to. But it doesn't really matter anyway.

NIN or Buckcherry will win. These things are not based on merit.

System Of A Down
Track from: Hypnotize
[American/Columbia]
as a SOAD fan, i feel terribly disappointed with this track, it sucks ass like its album.
* Vicarious
Tool

It would be nice to see them get a grammy, compared to the other songs nominated they deserve to win, but a lot of politics go into winning those awards.

based on track record Tool will win, Wolfmother would have a chance at best new act but not this one. Tool are too well liked in the industry, they will get sentimental vote.

album art is the same category?
shouldn't have renamed it.
