That's pretty damn vague. I wonder what annoyed him. I wonder if he was referring to his work (i.e. the live show), or just the site in general.

It seems that most people love Tool's shows, they just want to hear different songs if they see more than one show. I think that's a valid concern, but it seems the band probably has no intention of addressing it.

Other than that I haven't seen much, if any negativity about the live show around here...

Yeah, I told him about how much we loved his posts and those negative nancys should be ignored. And there is always somebody who is not happy no matter what... He kinda shugged his shoulders and was like: oh well, i've got better things to do than to waste my time on tdn.

To those who have been overtly negative and whiny about the shows... THANKS ALOT FUCKERS! YOU RUINED ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS ABOUT THIS SITE. A TRUE INSIDER INTERACTING WITH THE FANS. WAY TO GO, A-HOLES.

He was vague and I didn't press him for fear of pissing him off more. He didn't seem like he wanted to talk about it. I said "Miss you on the tdn show thread." and that is when he told me about not reading it anymore, etc.

The negativity was pretty bad before this current tour and there were alot of people flaming each other and saying Tool was lame for playing the same show as the 10,000 days tour. Remember when this thread had people calling Tool overrated and past their prime? I stopped reading it as well cause there wasn't any news about the band. Just general bitchyness.

Maybe sonnyboy could cheer him up in the AZ bay!

Man, I will try! I am a big fan of his work and I think he was always a straight shooter around here, considering he did not owe us a damn thing and just kept us informed because he liked doing it. I'll see if I can at least find him long enough to buy him a beer/soda at one of the Nokia shows.

Most people want to stand and even if the floor was GA not everyone can get a ticket in GA so they are stuck in seats. GA is usually the first section to sell out when there is GA.

I agree though standing in your seat is idiotic.

At the Civic Center in SF, there's only one type of ticket: GA. You sit wherever you want. It has its pros and cons.

I've never, ever seen a show where the standing room on the floor is too crowded to stand anywhere. Even if you get a ticket for the upper deck, I don't see any reason why you couldn't head down to the floor if that's where you really wanted to be.

I see a solution! Get into the line early and then when the doors open and everyone rushes to the floor, you run upstairs and get a spot on the balcony rail. (genius, I know) Then nobody can stand in front of you and we can cease the debate about standing during a show.

The floor also never looks to crowded because of fire marshall regs limiting the number of people down there in case of an emergency, i.e. stampede to get out. Thats why the security checks your ticket to keep extra people out of there. Everyone migrates towards the stage so you have big gaps behind the crowd and it looks "open".

BTW-griping about people standing (in front of their seats) at a rock concert makes you sound 100 yrs old. Its not the opera.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

never understood that myself. have spent many times trying to get on the floor at shows when i wasnt allowed.

the best time was tool in manchester. told the first old lady that my cousins girlfriend had the tickets in her purse. the next one didnt buy it, so we just started yelling japan 4 japan 4, and pointing at the floor. she let us go.

i always liked having the option, cause sometimes you dont know if you wanna sit or stand till you get into the show and feel the energy.

also why do tall guys feel the need to be in the first 20 rows?

The shows I have been to here in LA, if you want to be on the floor, even GA, you have to have a ticket that says Floor. Security stops you from coming onto the floor if your ticket says you have assigned seating. I've seen this at Long Beach Arena recently. Saw it for Tool in Bakerfield. Saw it last year for Tool at US Air in Phx.

Because we are on-line right when tix go on sale to get good seats! If a person is mad at me for standing in front of them, I tell them to get pissed at God or Darwin. I didn't ask to be 6' 4".

I also flip the script on them and say "It must be nice always being able to find clothes off the rack that fit. Or shoes for that matter." Being tall sucks sometimes as well.

Damn, just because I disagree with the popular opinion, that means I'm a grouchy old man? Didn't the show we saw start out with "Think for yourself, question authority..."??

Why do people feel they have to stand up? Maybe you don't understand why I want to sit down; I don't understand why people want to stand up.

I don't buy this BS about getting down with the music. Why? Because everyone in front of me was just standing there like a fucking zombie, maybe nodding their head, if that. You cannot tell me you can't do that shit while sitting down. I was grooving like hell sitting in my seat, and from the looks of it, so was Danny Carey! ;)

See, for me, it's about respect. I respect my fellow fan and I believe we should all have the ability to see the show we paid for. I'm six feet tall so I can see fine even when everyone stands. But I used to go with my (ex)girlfriend to shows and she's only 5'2". We got seats to Bjork at the Shoreline and she was pretty upset that everyone was standing, because she couldn't see shit.

Like I said: I'm far from the only one with this opinion. I just seem to be the only one voicing it here. There were these fucking drunken frat boys ten rows in front of me who stood up the entire time, and I could see the dudes behind them craning their necks to see, so they had to stand up, which made the people behind them crane their necks, so they reluctantly stood up, and so on, until it reached my row. Key word: reluctantly. The fucked up part was that I saw people asking the frat boys to get down, and they even turned around to see that EVERYONE behind them was sitting, but they still stood.

Again, it's about respect, but I feel foolish for even thinking that anyone in this country has respect for anyone else after the lights go down. Even the responses to my posts come off as "fuck you, I'll do what I want and I don't give a shit about you." No respect.

oh wow. The way it is at most shows in Seattle is there is a floor section that is usually GA and then there is the seating section which is the 100 and 200 level. Generally the floor sells out and then people are stuck with seats and if you have 100 or 200 level seats you are not allowed on the floor.

Now at the Key Arena when Tool was here a few days ago there was no GA. The floor was filled with folding chairs and every ticket sold had an assigned seat.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Does anyone know when the date and venue specific posters started? I know I need to find one for the July 10, 2010 show in Seattle and I am sure there is one for the December 4, 2007 show in Everett, but I don't know if there was one for the August 27, 2006 show at The Gorge. I would love to get a poster for every show I was at.

There were no unique posters sold at the shows until the last leg of the 2007 tour.

I've tried to get the Live Discussion opened up for posts so we can make threads (this thread is getting too big for its britches imo), but Dan isn't having any part of it.

I wanna discuss bootlegs. Just listened to 2001-11-01 again this morning (a real classic), nowhere to discuss it though.

I would love to get a poster for every show I was at.
I'm pretty sure the idea to create specific posters for every single concert started during the fall 2007 west coast mini tour.

Although prior to that over the years some specific special shows would get their own posters (like the King Crimson tour, for instance)

Speaking of posters, I think it's about time for TOOL to have their own poster in the SF Fillmore! =)

San Diego was killer last night. pretty amazing that Tool can overcome the sound limitations in a sports arena like that.

It seems that most people love Tool's shows, they just want to hear different songs if they see more than one show. I think that's a valid concern, but it seems the band probably has no intention of addressing it.

Other than that I haven't seen much, if any negativity about the live show around here...
I don't know, there were some pretty bad things being said about MJK and some really negative posts about the last tour.

Overall I think most people are far more satisfied with the 2010 tour.

2009 was very underwhelming compared to this year.

speaking from experience.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Do you think it's a fair deal to have somebody buy me an unsigned poster at each LA show to trade for the signed Houston poster I already have? I have to make up my mind soon but I just don't know! I'm not a big fan of the Houston poster and I'm hoping the LA posters are a pair just like RR. I would be losing half of my money, but gaining 2 posters I would otherwise have no way of getting (I live in TX, nowhere near LA). I found a guy willing to do it, but he's mostly into buying them for selling purposes only, so it's a good deal for him I guess. What do you think?

Maybe I missed those, or just didn't care and I ignored them when I read them.

1. Haters gonna hate.

2. If the band can't read a single negative thing about themselves, that's ridiculous. They're full grown men who are older than most of the people on this entire message board. They should be able to distinguish between plain ol' senseless bitching (which they should ignore) and actual criticism, which they might want to think further about.

Again, it's about respect, but I feel foolish for even thinking that anyone in this country has respect for anyone else after the lights go down. Even the responses to my posts come off as "fuck you, I'll do what I want and I don't give a shit about you." No respect.

I respect your opinion, I'm just pointing out how it sounds to me. The part of your post about "f-you, .. I don't give a shit about you..." is a little harsh. I'm sorry if my responses to you come off that way, it wasn't trying to communicate that. I do feel bad for the people behind me who can't see as well but if I sit down, then my experience gets limited. The energy of a TOOL show compels me to stand. I would say the majority of the crowd wants to stand and the rest get swept up in the mob. I guess my point is, why bring up something that won't get changed and then sound bitter about the rest of the fans. It sounds like there were a couple of a-holes in the front of your section but what you gonna do? Unless you tell them to sit or move somewhere else or get security, your are stuck with their actions. Maybe the people directly behind them should have done something for the benefit of the rest of the section. Sometimes if I get to a section early, I will talk to those in front to see if there are going to stand or sit. Or at least tell the people behind me, "I'm gonna stand so be prepared."

Its a rock concert, people stand. Lets move on.

Worth noting that in spite of some harshness, this site is at least relatively sane when it comes to the Maynard stuff. I am getting lambasted over on the Coachella site for even daring to think Maynard still sounds fine and performs well. Even suggesting such a thing over there gets you labeled an unobjective fanboy with Maynard's balls on your chin.

haha, I mentioned the "fuck you" response to describe the vibe I was getting from some responses, but come on, I actually did get some just like that :P

But the fact of the matter is, and I've said this a million times, everyone sat down when I saw Tool in 2007. It was the first show where that had ever happened to me!! It was also the first time I had a seat at a Tool show. Maybe Saturn aligned perfectly that night or something, since that was also my first show on LSD.

That 2007 performance was practically a religious experience. It was the epitome of a perfect show for me--amazing lights, sounds, rocking setlist, and for once in my life I actually got to sit down, puff on a joint, and take everything in from the comfort of my seat.

The 2010 show was very different---more like a normal rock show, resembling all the other shows I've been to in my life. I thought sitting versus standing was an important difference, so I pointed it out. Especially because it seemed like most (probably 80%) of the people in my section seemed like they would rather be sitting too.

I guess that after 2007 I got a different impression of Tool fans. But, in 2010, that impression was reset. So the next show, I'll expect a standing crowd, and if I luck out and find a sitting section, that'll just be icing on the cake. I'm actually pretty serious about the wheelchair idea though--I've heard of tapers hiding their recording equipment in a wheelchair and getting prime location in the handicapped section--I'll just use it to get a seat up front :)

Seriously though, if the biggest thing I had to complain about all night was that people were standing up, you know the band and the venue are doing an amazing job.
