art:

ive allready said my piece (peace?) on this video:

however, no matter how many times i watch it im still fucking blown away by every screen shot. seriously, they could have easily cashed in and sucked the money cock by making prints or posters of the images in this video. i know the music comes first and all that shit, but the actual visual element of tool, the art, is SO fucking amazing!!

just for reference sake, im going to try and list all the contributing artists (non-music related) that contribute and/or influence tool:

-Adam Jones
-Cam De Leon
-Len E. Burge
-Kevin Willis
-Donna Langston
-Alex Grey
-Jim Hawkinson
-Chriss Hafner
-Chet Zar
-Ken Solomon
-Camella (someone told me she works on the live visuals)
-Fred Stuhr
-? Rameriez
-Michael Mees
-The Brothers Quay
-Ken Andrews
-

dam, i cant think of any more. if you can think of some, feel free to post them. use tool as a tool into "good" art. i know it has opened doors for me.

? Rameriez Paintings:

god-dammit!! i cant remember the name of this painter.....it think it might be Robert......Robert Rameriez. he did the a couple of paintings for tool, or atleast they purchased the rights to use his artwork. either way, his work has become part of the tool "machine:"

in t-shirts:
-"woodcut"
-"underwater embrace"

in posters:
-"underwater embrace" (different than the shirt)
-tour 98 scroll.........

i kind of want to talk about the tour 98 scroll for a second. you see, i was unfortunately late to the show in Dallas at the Fair Park Coliseum on 08/08/98. i missed the melvins and once i got in the stadium i said "fuck it" to the merchandise stands and quickly made my way to the floor and got decently near the stage. on my way out i noticed they HAD sold a poster-like scroll of Mr. Rameriez's painting. I was too late, and the merchandise booth was pretty much sold out of everything. my friend was able to pick up one, and i examined it. it turns out it was licensed to GIANT, a merchandise company. no matter how hard i tried (and am still trying) to find another one of these scrolls, i came up with absolutely NOTHING. i havent even been able to find ANYONE who knows what im talking about. however, i know it exists and would would be willing to pay quite a bit of cash if someone could part with it. i still have my ticket-stub and would love to get the two framed together. my friend understandably wont sell it to me, so i guess im just shit out of luck. either way, i really like Mr. Rameriez's work and hope to further agknowledge myself and others in the realm of tool-related art.

artist web-links:

alllright, i understand that this thread is slipping farther away from S T I N K F I S T, and the moderator will most likely kill these posts. however, if you are bored and have the time to be "stimulated" PLEASE check out these following artists' web-pages. not ALL of them are directly tool or music reltated, however, in my opinion these artists are the most amazingly imaginative and creative people ive ever had the pleasure to be inspired by. they are in NO particular order. hopefully the links will work.....

Russell Mills:
http://www.permanence.de/
he has worked with trent reznor on album covers such as "march of the pigs," "the downward spiral," "closer to god," "further down the spiral," and "closure."

Alex Grey:
http://www.alexgrey.com/
he has lately worked with tool on countless projects.

Alessandro Bavari:
http://www.alessandrobavari.com/
not tool or even music related. i BEG that you check out his portfolio. deffinetly one of the coolest artists around.

Cam De Leon:
http://www.happypencil.com/
worked with tool on various projects. you would be a fool not to check out his work.

Ramiro Rodriguez:
http://w3.one.net/~icarus/ram/
once again, and incredible painter.

Steven Gilmore:
http://www.srgdesign.com/index.html
he has worked with skinny puppy on many album covers. you will most likely notice his work with a perfect circle.

Paul Booth:
http://www.darkimages.com/
fucking amazing artist. PLEASE check out his work. i would kill for a tattoo reservation, but im sure it costs too much anyway.

Screaming Lobster:
http://www.screaminglobster.com/
i dont know the exact artitsts involved in this group. i have e-mailed them before and Chet Zar replied. thats about as much artist info as i have. most deffinetly my favorite artists in that genre

Spiral Eyes:
http://www.spiraleyes.com/
fucking amazing photography. im just guessing they work with tool on the live visuals with screaming lobster.

The Brothers Quay:
http://www.worlds4.com/quay/
sadly, i cannot find a homepage for these two artists. however, this web-page has a good summary of their career with short films. if you like the work adam and fred stuhr did with prison sex and sober you HAVE to check them out. they ARE the pioneers of stop-still animation. and in my opinion actually blow adam and fred's work out of the water.

Fred Stuhr:
http://anp.awn.com/stuhr-gallery.html
he has worked with adam on earlier tool projects. its not like i ever knew him, but he will be missed.

.....that is all i can think of now. hopefully the moderator will NOT cut my thread and you will be able to use tool AS a tool into great art. if you feel i have left something out or you just want to contribute, feel free to post. half of message is the way you relay it to people. dont allow "bordem" to become a "burden," instead "dig" until you "feel something."

this video is just amazing. it is probably my favorite video, by tool or by any other artist. the visuals are breathtaking and surreal, and i think that people who don't even have an understanding of the song and the messages of tool can still appreciate what's being said in the video. like when the two characters shed their skin and everything is in color, i think the whole idea of evolving is pretty clear.
simply put, this video is mind blowing. i love it.

lurk...

1 a : to lie in wait in a place of concealment especially for an evil purpose b : to move furtively or inconspicuously c : to persist in staying
2 a : to be concealed but capable of being discovered; specifically : to constitute a latent threat b : to lie hidden

i just would like to say that i have that same poster and WOW,it's a trip.next time you look at it look at the lettering of TOOL(upsidedown on the bottom)check it out it has 3-D pictures of the band members in them(you know the kind that you have to make your eyes look crossed??).

but yeah that poster is freaking crazy me and most of my friends have had experiences with that thing.that poster is a psychedelic master piece.haha, yeah it's triped us out...
