Is it just me, or is the very beginning of this song very similar to Eon Blue Apocalypse?? That was my firt impression of this song, that the first chords were a continuation of Eon Blue.

I cannot believe that others cannot hear the reference to the main theme from Eon...to me it was obvious from the 1st listen...its just a few notes, but definitely there (at start of song and also again shows up near the end).
Oh well

I think there is a thematical connection, as "Eon Blue Apocalypse" is about the Apocalypse, and "Intension" seems to be about the creation (..."pure as we begin"...) and the evolution of mankind.
I suppose there is a reason for the presence of the Eon Blue-Theme in this song.

lol, I assuem anyone saying they can't hear it is being ironic? It's quite clearly Eon Blue Apocalypse.
If I was to make a wav file that played the relevent snippets, would I get banned for linking to it here, or is that ok?

OK, I'm going to assume this isn't against the rules, as there are lots of posts with links to samples and stuff. Admins, if you're not happy about this link, I'm sure you'll feel free to remove it :)
It's a link where I've taken Eon Blue from the start of Intension, then the original Eon Blue, then the Eon Blue at the end.
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...C275B469B5F3FF
Perhaps now people will accept that this, and the other 'shadows', are there.

Most of the album is recycled..whats your point...

The point, A groan, is being made to the people who can't hear that the album is recycled. Rosetta Stoned is a homage to about 8 different Tool songs.

So to sum it up..
people praise this is such a great album cause Tool took a bunch of old shit and through it back into there new shit..seems lazy and not very progressive..
Maybe it came down to "OK we got a 5 mintue song here..but if I take some song we did a few years back..use the same riff..hey hey its 8 minutes..woot..PROgressivE BABY!!...
Anema has the same sound stright through it...Lateralus too..this is recycled stuff form Tools history..not to new to me..

lol what?
Have you actually read this thread at all?
In this thread, nobody has given excessive praise nor excessive criticism of the album, and nobody is making a statement about how new it is.
All this thread is about is to tell us (again) that Eon Blue Apocalypse is on the song Intension.
For the record, I, too, think this is an album os recycled riffs, I think it's a good album but not a brilliant album.

I've got a slightly unrelated question about those first few notes - is that a synth or Adam's guitar with effects?

Yeah probably a synth, but there's no reason why, with abit of tremelo, taking out some treble and adding a bit of volume swelling, it couldn't be done on guitar.

Aemoeba. We're only talking about the guitar part at 43 seconds!
Sure, the riff at the beginning of Intension starts on a different note to Eon Blue, and it's another different note at the end of Intension. But the gap between the notes, the rhythm and the distance between then is exactly the same. It's just a transposition of the same riff, and it's played on a different instrument. Doesn't make it a different riff though.
Aemeoba, take your tab of at 43 seconds, move it down three frets and you're playing Intension. OMGZORR?!?!?!

Also, there is a section in the song where Adam is playing the exact same notes as he does in the intro to Lateralus, albeit in a different time signature. At least, I think I hear it...
