A wave and a nod
a wave and a nod How you doing?
Good! You?
Happy guys fly past my eyes
every day whistlin',
every day back-slappin'.
How bout this?
How bout that?
How bout the crisp moon
that hangs in the Winter
sky and those stars
that simmer like sparks
from its white-hot burning?
Hey Bill, check this out:
Winter is the great equalizer,
Nature's bringin' it down to zero
and everyone's gonna shake
in awe! We're gonna shiver
and shake and walk rigidly
in our tight goose-bumped hides—
everything that hangs
from us is turning red and cold.
Am I the only one that loves
this? It's so cold it burns
my warm, moist lungs. Winter's
trying to get in there to freeze
them too and I wouldn't
mind so much if it did.
A wave and a nod
a wave and a nod Howdy!
Howdy!
Good men, the family men—
hittin' the floor hard at church
and in the community; slingin'
basketballs and footballs
and baseballs at everyone
and they all seem to catch'em.
They sleep warm and heavy
under Night's banner:
stars moon fog
the whole thing
a cosmic play
while they sleep in their seat.
That's fine, that's fine.
I'll stay awake
dry-eyed and pained—
the only one in this
theater.
