Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

You'd think the Puscifer tour announcement will be any day now considering the tour starts in less than 2 months

I see the new album art is up on the site and well as a pre-order.

Yeah, cannot wait to see it. So far though, fandango doesn't show a theater here carrying it this weekend. Amazing that when Hollywood wants to make a movie about baseball, they've chosen Brad Pitt, Aaron Sorkin, and the Oakland Athletics.

Pretty cool. Hope it's good!

I'm assuming the price for the Puscifer tickets will be whatever remaining limbs we haven't already given Nardo.

Sure, but it's hollywood. I'm glad they didn't just change it to the Dodgers or something to make the sell easier. It is showing here, got my tix for Friday night. Nice end to another crappy season.

Plenty of room for more dates in the second half of the tour. Texas and further West Coast dates I'd say are pretty likely.

The Vegas date changed to 12/10 and will be @ The Pearl. Anyone else going to that show?

I'll already be in town for the Watch the Throne tour the night before. (don't judge)

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

so after some time I am prepared to say that the new Puscifer album is amazing. it will grow on you over time. "Green Valley" is particularly great.

"Hello stranger, Can you tell us where you've been? More importantly, How ever did you come to be here? Though a stranger, You can rest here for a while. But save your energy, Your journey here is far from over. Come the sunrise, We'll descend through Judgement Valley And weigh your worth before her majesty, the Verde River"

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Haven't listened to the new album yet, but plan to tonight. I've heard nothing but great things about it.

In other news, I'm seeing Danny Carey perform with the Adrian Belew Power Trio tomorrow, in an awesome, brand new venue in downtown Phoenix tomorrow. It's tiny, and intimate with awesome sound. Part of me really wants to go up and ask him about the new Tool record and if they're headlining Coachella next year. Part of me knows better than to do so. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Also, I'm officially in for Puscifer at The Pearl. Is anybody else going? It'd be cool to meet some of you fanboys, if any of you are interested in meeting up and getting a drink before the show. Perhaps a shmoke anna pancake?

If you get a chance to talk to Danny, then he'd probably be pretty happy to answer those questions.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Really? You don't think he hears it everywhere he goes, and gets tired of it? Or is that my perception of Maynard wearing off on him? Do all the other band mates actually like discussing Tool? LOL, fucking Maynard ruins everything.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Why isn't there any tool discussions going on in here? I am seeing a lot of other band names, but isn't this the tool discussion thread? What, have they not toured in a really long time or something?

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

http://loudwire.com/maynard-james-ke...t-circle-tool/

Tool are reportedly working on a new album, as well. In the past, you’ve expressed frustration with sitting around in the studio with guitarist Adam Jones and drummer Danny Carey’s aesthetic of going over endless combinations of song structures before committing to anything.

Maynard - I’m allowing them their space to do what they do, so we’re still in that mode. Even if they told me how close they are to being done, I couldn’t tell you because if I say 60 percent people will start counting down. When it’s done everyone will know. But I haven’t done anything yet. They write forever and then we go in and knock it all out. We’re writing. We’re writing vocals. But nothing’s solid. With Puscifer, there’s ideas and then we’ll record stuff. Then we’ll go back and change stuff and fix stuff and record new stuff before we finally put it all together. But with Tool, we practice jams, but there’s no actual recording going on until it’s time to record.

Are you prepared to tour for a year for the next Tool record whenever it’s ready or have you put your foot down and said, “I don’t want to spend my life on the road.”

Maynard - It has nothing to do with putting my foot down. Physically, I can’t do it, so that’s not gonna happen. We will tour, but it won’t be the old school dog and pony show of eight months of beating yourself to death.

For most bands now, staying out on the road for a year-plus and selling lots of tickets and merch is the only way to make money because their albums are being downloaded for free by file-sharers.

Maynard - How much do you need, really? If we can make a living going out for a few weeks a year and keep people satisfied by making sure we play the locations we need to hit, I’m not Kirk Hammett. I don’t need to buy $10,000 guitars every day. That’s not my lifestyle. I love Kirk, but that’s not me. I have a very sustainable vineyard industry in the Valley which will eventually start to pay its own bills.

Maynard - I love to go on the road and play music for people and express myself, but for it to be something where I’m out there to make money, that’s depressing to me. You end up beating yourself up. Who gives a s–t how much money you have if your back hurts so much you can’t stand up. Money’s not the goal. Having fun making the art, that’s the goal. Finding a nice, happy medium. Being healthy and still expressing what you need to express in an effective way, that’s the ideal.
