ask a stupid question, you get stupid answers. Other then filler shit, they've played everything at some point. I can count on 1 hand the number of actual songs I HAVEN'T seen them do. And it's not because they've never done them either.

stupid question? havent they never played intension or maynards dick or viginti tres? thats all i was asking, i obviously knew they played their main songs, and just in general most of their songs. and sorry dude that i havent gone to a bunch of tool shows yet, i guess im just inferior to you. not only in music knowledge but obviously in wit, shown by your outstandingly clever comment above. you are awesome for seeing a lot of tool shows man! i totally would blow you if you werent too busy blowing maynard and trying to mimic his sarcasm.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
oh and by the way id hardly consider intension, or really anything off their albums "filler shit". but hey what do i know, im only a level 4 thinker and youre a totally rad level 9 obstreperous!!!
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
For those of you in the going to the ATL show. There are a good number of hotels in the area. There is a Holiday Inn attached to convention center and arena. $110 a night, as of today= no driving after the show.

Well, I would call tracks such as "Useful Idiot", "Cesaro Summability", The 2 message to Harry Manback tracks, LAMC, "Faaip de Oiad" etc... to be FILLER SHIT. And it has nothing to do with whatever "level" you are. I wasn't even aware of what level I was until you pointed it out because it doesn't mean shit to me.
I do however stand corrected. I thought they had played Intension during their spring '06 warmup tour, but they haven't actually played it live. So there is 1 song (2 if you really must consider Viginti Tres a track) that has never been played.
Maynard's dick has been played live before.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
yeah, i suppose i don't consider viginti tres a track. so i guess intension is really the only one. alright, my question is answered, thanks eulogys. sorry for wasting the time and effort you had to put in to your keystrokes, though.
and hodge, i think youve wasted far too much of your life here on these forums for you to have a level anymore. so if you get lost checking, dont sweat it. you certainly seem to have us all beat as most avid toolnavy poster in the world. congrats dude. and while youre already here, have another post while youre at it. oh wait, you already did. what a surprise.

Highly disappointed that we haven't got a date announced in the Midwest other than Chicago. I'm in KC and I'm sure Danny would love to play the new sprint arena for his family and friends. Hell, I'd be willing to drive to STL. Just wish they would say or not if all dates have been announced. That way i can try and find tickets elsewhere.

Cincinnati is also in the Midwest.

Just keep checking. Within a couple weeks of the show tix will start popping up again on ticketmaster. It'll be sporadic and they'll go quick, but some decent seats almost always become available.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I've got GA tixs to Atlanta and am taking a TOOL first timer. Does anyone have any idea what time we need to get in line outside to get a decent spot? Part of me wanted to get seats so we didn't have to worry about that, but if we can get close it'll be worth all the standing. Thanks.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Any word on who will be opening for Tool during this tour? Are they flying solo? I heard some rumors about FNM but can't find anything to back that up.... They need to get Muse away from U2 and slap them up there!

Unknown as of yet, but there will be one and it's not FNM, and not Muse.

If they have an opening band, (and by all accounts, they will) make your way to the spot you want as soon as the opening band ends their set - this is when many people will leave to use the restroom, and get more beer.

...and do your drinking before the show. As others go get their drinks you'll be able to move up. If you want the rail you'll probably need to be there at least a couple hrs before the doors open. If you just want to be guaranteed a relatively close spot it shouldn't be a problem as long as you get there around the time doors open or earlier.
I've been to huge shows where I was so late I didn't even get to the arena before the opener was done. But I was still able to get about 10 rows back from the stage. So if you can't get there early just follow Runners advice and make your move after the opener is done.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
This might sound like a silly question to some of you: is it worth it to see Tool two nights in a row? I saw them once in the Lateralus tour, and twice in the 10,000 Days tour (although these two shows were exactly 1 year apart from each other). I already have tickets for Dallas, and some friends of a friend are driving to San Antonio to see the band and they invited me to the show. Is it worth it to drive an extra 3 hours to go to San Antonio to (maybe) see the same setlist as in Dallas, then sleep 4~5 hours, since I have to meet with a friend in Dallas that's arriving at 9 am (he will go to the Dallas show with me). What's the opinion of the posters here that go to multiple shows?
I considered going to SA (before I was invited by these kind guys) but given that I already had tickets for a much better venue (Dallas) and I heard that the sound in AT&T is not very good, I opted for the Dallas choice. Now, the guys that will attend the show in SA are not exactly rich, so they will go for the 28 bucks tickets (which are not that bad, they are the back of the arena but you have a full view of the stage, as opposed to seeing them in the upper bowl but at an angle). I will certainly sit next to them.
Considering this...what's your veredict?

I sure hope so. I bought one after the fact for the New Orleans show from the last tour and love it. I built a frame and had it matted. It hangs proudly in my bedroom. Not everyone has a yellow and green gorilla/monkey as art in their house.

I'd say yes especially since you'll have completely different view points for the two shows it sounds like. Since you have buddies making the drive the added gas expense shouldn't be too bad. Plus since it's a shortened tour I'm guessing there's not going to be a huge variety in the setlist from night to night but that they also won't be holding any songs back. In other words, whatever variety there will be I'd think odds are good you'd get to experience most of it in consecutive shows. Worst case scenario the two shows are exactly the same, but you got to see TOOL 2x in 2009, when most of us weren't expecting it until 2010 or '11.
I guess the real question is: How pissed off would you be if they played your favorite song you haven't heard live at SA, but not at Dallas and you didn't go? If money is tight and you'd be frustrated but overall just happy you got to see them in Dallas at all, then missing SA shouldn't be a big deal. But if it would taint the Dallas memory as well it may be worth the extra 40 bucks or so total for the trip to SA.

All I can say is that I'm going to both shows. I'll be completely happy, even if they play the exact same setlist both nights. But I'm betting there's a good chance that they would at least change one or two songs up considering they're playing back to back shows in the same state, knowing that people are going to be going to both. Also some people seem to believe that something "special" is going to take place for Dallas. Who knows, but if so that would indicate at least a small difference in the shows. Also think about this.. how often do you get to see Tool, especially two nights in a row? The road trip between Dallas and San Antonio is not bad at all, and if anything you could make a stop at 6th street in Austin.

I think you already got your answer from the above posts. But let me add a short little story from the '07 spring/summer tour. A couple I worked with are Tool fans and when the dates started being announced after Danny recovered from his injury, Portland, ME and Albany, NY where scheduled on nights we were scheduled off. However, the Mansfield, MA show was on our scheduled night to work. I still went ahead and got tickets for Mansfield and took a Vacation Day while they decided to skip Mansfield and just go to Portland and Albany. Lets just say when I picked them up for the Portland show and told them they played both FLOOD and PUSHIT @ Mansfield the were kicking each other in the ass for not taking the night off. Even more so after the Albany show when the played just Flood in Portland and Albany. But at least they got to see Maynard trying to hide from the terrorist.
I can tell a similar story about some friends who went to the Manchester show in '02 and had tickets for the '02 Lowell show, but at the last minute gave me the tickets to sell for them because they figured it would be almost the same show as Manchester. Again, same thing when they found out they played Cold & Ugly and Third Eye.
And then there was my roommate in the summer of '02 who went to Boston, skipped Providence, and went to Manchester. He didn't believe me about the "hissy fit" until he heard some other people talking about @ the Manchester show.
So yeah, go to both shows if you can afford to. Even if they play the same set, there's always something new to see. For example, the '01 Hershey show was GA so I grabbed a seat up high on the right side looking over Danny's shoulder (perfect view) and all I did for the entire show was watch Danny play. Never looked at anyone else. That was the 5th of 10 shows so it wasn't like there was something I was going to miss and never have a chance to see again.
I'm living down in Florida right now and I'm driving up to the Atlanta show on the 27th and then flying up to Manchester on friday for the 8/2 show. Helps to not have to pay for lodging for the 3 days.
