"Okay, the drone in the song Mantra is actually Maynard's Siamese cat (electronically processed). "
in the toolband newsletter. i dont know if its sarcastic or a joke or hes being serious, its jus type. but i have a feeling he is being serious and ill leave it at that.
but one last thing, being that schism sort of does have to do with religion (depending on your opinion) im sure they accomplished both things, having his cat on the record, and it being called plainly mantra, a chant for medetation>>sort of a religious experience? no? yes?

Reason: Messed up
i agree with you Mr. Omnipotent..i think its coming together on any level. yeah professor pudding youre right, schism does mean seperation. but maynard says were doomed to crumble unless we rgow and strengthen our communication, indicating that we need to come together, BECAUSE we are divided. its both, its that we are seperate, like you said, and that we should come together, like mr omnipotent said. whether it be a religion a family, whatever.
i think all tool segues go along with the King Crimson factor-
(which is this:)
On the record Red, there is a song called Providence. Just listen to it..its so messed up, yet not particullarly a song. Its more of just..randomness..but the point is, if you listen all the way through it, (8 min?) the last song, Starless, already incredible, sounds EVEN BETTER. I always listen to useful idiot before 46&2; it just makes it sound better to me. Thats what I think some of these segues are about
Do they even make siamese cats anymore? Shouldnt they be called something else, now that Siam is no longer in existence?

Sometimes I hear it whispered on the wind against (pronounced "agaynst") my bare chest as I walk along the lonely forest path....sssssiam....

Yeah, I honestly dont believe it's a cat. That sounds like something maynard would make up on the spot.

A part of a song I wrote while on Salvia Divinorum. I was sitting on Dana Strands Beach writing after I came down...it's called I Found Myself (Swimming). On my website.
Everything turned into a painting by the artist Salvador Dali.

how is it about coming together when a schism is a separation or division? i always thought schism was about how religions are all falling apart in today's society because people are realizing they are no longer relevant.
schism is about the physical seperation of church or religion because that is the dividing factor... if religion was nullified and everyone searched for the truth with their heart instead of books and rules, then it would become a place where people would contribute and benifit on a transpersonal level. Instead of saying, my religion says blah blah blah, it would be, last night i dreamed this, and it lead me to conclude upon waking... and so on. Instead, "chasing the tail of dogma," we automatically dismiss what people have to say because it is labeled... "come together... right now... over me". (me, being religion in this perspective because you are over it... get it? no... neither do i.... if i did... i wouldn't be here.
btw, if u double the speed of the track with any cheep audio processing tool, maybe nero's wave editor because u can get the for free easilly off kazaa lite, it sounds like somebody moaning through approximately a 2 foot tube... i believe it is adam too. as far as them playing it live, it is a recording, just like alot of the effects. i would love to know how to produce feedback like that though.
on a further note, i think that this track is supposed to signify pre-exit sensations (auditory hallucinations) when meditating or focusing the awareness out of the body. Kind of like a subconsciouse safety trying to scare you back to "sleep".
Oh totally dudes!! Werdness!! It's all about church/religion, I totally agree.

you guys are totally fooled beyond shit. I was listening to the song one night, and I could hear it. Fucking voices. very quiet and hard to hear muffled talking.

I agree completely; almost all the segues make the actual songs sound better. Eon Blue adds to the Patient just as Mantra serves as a good opening for Schism, in the video especially. But, I've sped the song up and still can't tell if it actually sounds like anything. I don't have a cat to experiment on.

I KNOW THE PIECES FIT

who gives a shit what makes the noise, isn't it 10 times more important what in the hell it actually means? oh yeah, and what blair says is usually horseshit, anyways.

I think mantra was probably just made when they were in that experimental mood. Sitting in the studio, setting up a process and running various audio sources through it.
Anyone heard Alvin Lucier's "I'm sitting in a room" ??
It's about an hour recording of the guy speaking in a room. He records it, and then plays it back into the same room and records it again - then does it again and again and again, until the rooms natural resonances become aparant through his voice.
Sounds normal at the start, fucked up as it progresses. I think Mantra was probably something similar.
