Re: FEAR INOCULUM

I'm hoping the lead track is either Invincible or Descending. If you think about it, that's already a half hour's worth!

Really like this title! Can’t wait for the artwork and track listing, which should be anytime now.

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

I'm thinking ENOCULUM is a blend of Enochian and...

inoculum. [i′näk·yə·ləm] (microbiology) A small amount of substance containing bacteria from a pure culture which is used to start a new culture or to infect an experimental animal

FWIW I've heard the battery is related to something much cooler and more elaborate than just a light (like the one on Pulse)

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

In the Joe Rogan interview, Maynard used the term "inoculate" in reference to seeding a fermentation process (for his cider). Also, in the universe I just came from, the spelling with two n's was more common.

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

I figured it could also be taken like, we are being injected with fear. But it seems more like, an inoculation against fear. Probs both just cuz, u know, multiple interps.

It has me a little worried again. Not too worried...

🤨

At this point "no worries mate"

It will be what it is. It's time to just go with the flow, our little "cult" band is about to become the biggest thing in rock music. I'm ready for the ride..

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

Guitar World magazine said, “An exceptionally cohesive 80-minute prog-metal odyssey that unfurls over seven tracks, most of which are constructed of multiple movements. It’s a dynamic, intensely wrought, and often meditative album, and – as is often the case with Tool’s releases – Fear Inoculum serves as a vehicle for a mysterious larger concept that aptly orbits the number seven.”

I agree. They're clearly aware of the vaccine interpretation, but I also figure it's about "fear" leading to negative social change. It seems likely the album will be an exploration of abstract concepts pertaining to both interpretations. Probably a bunch of even-odd stuff about fear in the needle, vs fearing the needle, vs fearing the fear of the needle, etc. Checkerboards and whatnot; I heard occultists love that shit.

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

On that note, leef... On the JRE podcast, Maynard was talking (pitching, really) that idea he said he talked with Joe about wanting to do... paraphrasing the concept; taking people of different viewpoints and finding common ground between them that is unrelated to their divisive stances on some hot button issue. He talked a lot about that aspect of the society we are living in today. Makes me feel that if this is what's on his mind right now, the lyrics and concept of this album may be well saturated with this subject matter. So having said that, it does make me feel good that he seems to have a desire to put a positive spin on it and find a light at the end of the tunnel.

It's been such a long time since Tool has been emotionally or spiritually relevant for me, so I've mostly been looking forward to this album to check in with A/D/J and see what noise makes them grin ear to ear. But if Maynard has laid down some thought provoking lyrics that are palatable, I'll take that as a cherry on top.

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

so 80 minutes, 7 tracks, 2 segues...

Sounds excellent to me. Really eager to hear Descending; the live experience was a masterpiece. If the rest is also on that level : Yeah!

Crazy, can't actually believe it's finally happening. Listening to MJK on Rogan now.

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

I was about to ask if there was any information on how long the title track is, but then I realized it was coming real soon, so I'd prefer not knowing.

And... Wow. My brain still can't properly function that in 23 days, WE WILL HAVE A NEW TOOL ALBUM.

Yes, Tool's new album has taken 13 years to complete. Countless memes and jokes later, we're just a few weeks shy of the release of Fear Inoculum. While it may have been entertaining to harp on the length of time the band has taken to put out another record, the members assure that the final result will not be in vain.

In a new issue of Revolver, Adam Jones, Danny Carey, Justin Chancellor and Maynard James Keenan collectively agree on the theme behind the album - growing older and wiser.

"It's about the little things in life," begins Jones. "It's making those choices that are important to you and moving on and growing." After confirming the album length to be around 85 minutes long - made up of seven tracks and two segues - the guitarist compares the songs to movements. "It's like two or three songs in one, but they relate. They flow."

"Well, I suppose the main overview of it is getting older and more comfortable with yourself," Carey reflects. "It's kind of an evolution in that way, getting through and getting over criticisms and our fears of various kinds, I suppose."

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

I like it. Sounds like Tool covering Tool, using gimmicks from the last 3 albums.

Re: FEAR INOCULUM

Hmmm super proggy, vocal stylizing reminiscent of some Puscifer cuts. I think of the 3 songs this is my favorite.
