I'll be quite surprised if Tool hit the studio before the wine harvest, and that being the case I don't think we'll see an album release until 2016.

You'd think with all the trips to Area 51 they'd have a time machine and could take us back for another presentation of H. and/or Jimmy.

When the Tool SF show was announced my friend pointed how that went on sale three weeks in advance yet the Black Sabbath Oakland show went on sale 11 months in advance. Quite a difference in wait time. But we got San Jose in a few weeks to hold us over.

well it looks like march and april are booked for MJK… unless they have a rolling studio, it looks like Hellboy sure knows what he's talking about.

Can we wait for the post tour cuddle to end before we:
A: Complain about next year's set list.
And
B: Start stressing about the new album?

I don't have any inside word or anything, just applying a bit of logic to the situation. I'm not one to buy into any rumours of Tool recording the album in secret, so it would see to me that songwriting won't be complete anytime before the Puscifer tour winds up. And there's not enough of a gap between Puscifer and the harvest to squeeze in both writing and recording.

...there's not enough of a gap between Puscifer and the harvest to squeeze in both writing and recording.
|
Four months isn't long enough to finish writing and recording?! Assume recording takes as long as a month, that's still 3 solid months of writing. I guess it depends how much has already been written, which we don't really know, but that should be plenty of time. All that said, I agree we might as well not get our hopes up for a release this year at the George RR Martin-esque pace at which they've been progressing.

Yep, that's what I'm saying. I think you're oversimplifying the process, and strangely under estimating how long it takes Tool to do things.

During a recent VIP meet-and-greet with fans, Tool guitarist Adam Jones revealed that the band is deep into making not one, but two new music videos.
This obviously suggests that the work on new album is far beyond the early stages as well.
A fan using an alias of NSYK noted via Reddit about his VIP experience:
"Adam talked a lot about the process they were going through on the new album. No one asked about the progress, so I can't tell you what the status of that was.
"What I did find very telling, however, was him talking about the progress they've made on producing the two music videos. It came out of him talking about using CGI vs stop motion work in Hollywood and his time as a visual effects artist. This made me believe they are very far along in their work on the album."
He added: "He said two music videos that they were on the hook from the record company for, complained they only get an advance on the video and would likely lose money as it would be all over YouTube and Vimeo and not get traditional revenue, and talked about different options for making money back."

so what are the odds that the Duluth GA poster is featuring artwork we will see again soon?… (I'm remembering what i saw in vegas 07 that came back around a few months later)
what are the odds the album has already been finished in secret to protect the ineffectual property during whatever legal bullshit they were going through and this has all been a cover up and we get a surprise album drop at the end of this tour and they take that on a 3 month tour before harvest?
what are the odds my dad will ever come back?

Adi Granov, the artist who did the Opiate reissue priest and the Duluth/Charlotte posters, was actually in attendance at VIP in Charlotte with me. Adam expressed his love for Adi's work, but made no mention about future work.
Someone DID, however, ask about future work with Alex Grey, to which Adam said something about them being very similar in style/concepts and that they WOULD do more work with him in the future.

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one -- big hitter, the Lama -- long, into a ten-thousand foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consiousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
