Ticks and Leeches
This my ideal setlist I know its long(20 songs) and its around 2 and a half hours, but I figured maybe since Im going to the last show in the US, October 7th, I can get away with it
I really like your setlist. Except I would throw Jimmy into the mix somewhere. Other than that I think this setlist is as close to perfect as you can get.
I hope they dont do Ticks and Leeches at your concert because it would kill Maynards voice for October 7th and I'm going to that concert....It would be really cool if you got to see it tho
Yar, I'm not greedy enough to wish a mute-Maynard on you guys that are going on the 7th, but I think he can pull it off with some nifty gadgets without damaging his voice. Hell....I think Maynard is a great singer, but I'd be happy with Ticks & Leeches if he didnt sing even sing a word. I want to see the other three going off for that song mostly (especially Danny).
Also, noticed that my setlist was very similar to yours (just read it in a quote there). Was not trying to be redundant, I just didnt read all the previous pages of the thread. :)

Its ok to be redundant...If they do Ticks and LEeches it will probably be with gadgets and voice boxes but, you are right the instrumentation in that song is great. I wouldnt care either if Maynard didnt sing to it and all we heard was Danny on the drums that would be great
The following will be played on September 23rd, otherwise I will conjure a plague of locusts upon Arizona's vineyards and Maynard's grapes will die.....you read it here.
Setlist:
The Grudge
The Pot
Eulogy
Right in Two
Stinkfist (extdnd)
Pushit (slow)
Vicarious
Swamp Song
The Patient
Part of Me
*break*
Lateralus
Third Eye
faaaaaack, imagine ACTUALLY seeing that? it would be INTENSE!
can any warm-blooded being seriously consider not having third eye in their ideal set list? surely not?
anyway my point is, why are tool playing the same (lacklusture) set in america right now? i thought the idea was to get maynard's voice back into shape with the spring us/euro tours and then mix up the songs a little when they went back across the pond.
if the show is cardiff is exactly the same as the one in london was a few months back - i'll be highly miffed!
granted i haven't had a lot of time to look through this thread, so i'll apologise now if i've missed out some really big detail here. someone tell me its all gonna turn out ok :'(

ok, coz i just found out ill be seeing them in january, heres mine...
lost keys/rosetta
flood
stinkfist
the pot
intension
vicarious
sober
eulogy
disposition
reflection
H.
jambi
wings 1/2
--
pushit
aenema
lateralus
parabol/parabola
third eye
maynard's dick
chi. and there it is, a boy can dream. i sincerely hope that what we see more closely resembles my setlist than the current operating one.
Seen Tool plenty of times live, this is a setlist that would identify a lot of their talents and engage the fans:
Hush
Eulogy
Vicarious
Stinkfist (with fast breakdown)
(Danny's drum solo/intro)
Sober
Swamp Song
Third Eye
4 Degrees
The Pot
Wings for Marie
10,000 Days
Flood
This would yield a ~90 minute show, which is typical of Tool... The reason I liked it, was it starts off with a great fast song, progresses to one of their most powerful Aenima tracks, moves into a new favorite, back to an old favorite, some improvisational work by Danny to mellow things out, keeps the old school vibe, builds to a head with Third Eye... Then to the old school again, blending the new school to the old school, the quiet solitude, and the cleansing with Flood.
I wouldn't mind seeing Pushit or Jimmy thrown in there too. This would be very close to ideal for me.

Because I have yet to see them these are the songs that I would die to see. roughly two hours of Music:
The Grudge
H.
The Pot
Sober
Parabol - Parabola
Vicarious
Aenema (It would be nice if they ended with something else for once)
Forty-Six & 2
Jambi
Prison Sex
Passenger With Deftones (That would be insane, I would probably Piss my Pants)
(Break)
Rosetta Stoned
Lateralus
Wings + 10,000 Days (would be a great Finale)
So thats my list. Let me know what you guys think about it.
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Stinkfist
The Pot
Parabol
Parabola
Third Eye
Intension (fully, not just segue)
Right in Two
(ions)
Jimmy
Wings 1
Wings 2
Vicarious
Lateralus
In the even that Tool doesnt play 10kd and wings due to it being too personal or whatever, trade it and jimmy for 4 degrees and Pushit (salival version)
The Grudge
Eulogy
Pushit
Lateralus
Eon Blue/The Patient
Disposition/Reflection
Opiate
Sober
Prison Sex
Intension/Right in Two
Jambi
Aenima
H.
Vicarious
Jambi
Wings (1 and 2)
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (perfect opener imo)
The Grudge
Stinkfist
Jambi
Wings for Marie
10,000 Days
Schism
Undertow
Third Eye
4 Degrees
Opiate
Lateralus
Vicarious
Aenema
i do love the lateralus/vicarious/aenema ending and the lk/rs opener.. definetly think they should keep it. i'd probably cream my pants if they played this in denver one week from tonight.
Alright well... I understand that Maynard wouldn't be able to pull this off, so lets pretend this was a set-list from oh.. lets say... '97
Sweat
Jambi
A Part of Me
Eulogy
Jerk-off
Undertow
Flood
H.
Intermission (extended)
Jimmy
Pushit
Third Eye
You're absolutely right, he likely would not be able to pull off that setlist today. So much of Undertow is SO high pitched, I don't think he has the same range anymore. You can definitely hear evidence of it when he tries to sing Sober.
Those of you who don't believe me, play a bootleg from 97, and compare to today. I'm not necessarily saying this is a bad thing, certainly depressing/disappointing, but that's what happens to great singers when they reach a certain age. Maynard is slowly reaching that point, and soon he will not be able to sing at all. He used his voice hard for years. I expect his voice will go completely in the next 3-4 years. See Tool now, and often.
We can only hope some unusual Undertow/Aenima songs make it onto this setlist. Things they played back in that era.
In other news, I heard that Tool does not perform certain songs from their past by "choice". Has anyone seen a list of what these songs might be? I'm very curious, guessing Jimmy due to the personal nature and dealing with his mother, but not sure what else.

-The Pot

-Rosetta Stoned
-Pushit (album version)
-Lateralus
-Vicarious
-Aenema

Ok, so it's not THAT realistic...:)

Parabola (an explosion of light)

Stinkfist
The Pot
Schism

46&2
Jambi
Third Eye/Pushit (swapped out from time to time)
Opiate
AEnima
Wings/10,000 Days
Encore
Right In Two
Laturalus
I'm trying to be more realistic, I think this would be a good makeup more or less for a good tour setlist. Of course I would LOVE to hear The Patient, and The Grudge, but with this band and the amount of songs they have, to get one song usually means you would have to give up another, Really, if I got to hear Third Eye or Pushit I would not give a shit what the setlist was.
H.
Swamp song or Crawl Away (i can't decide, fuck it this is my dream, how bout both)
Parabol(a)
Jambi
Jerk Off
Pushit
Intolerance
Ænima
Stinkfist
Right in Two
Third Eye
The Pot
Eulogy
(encore)
Lost Keys
Rosseta Stoned
I know its lengthy but in the past tool has played up to 14 songs (i think)

With the way the current tour is going, I would say don't hope for any significant changes in their setlists until the 2007 tour is underway. Looks like Tool is doing a "routine" right now. I hope they change things up.
For the next time any grouping of these songs that I've yet to ever see live would be wonderful:
Hooker With A Penis (I know, no chance, but still one of my fave Tool songs)
Ticks & Leeches (same as above)
Third Eye (highly unlikely because it's such a difficult song)
Pushit (possible)
Undertow (possible)
Crawl Away (unlikely, but ya never know)
I have changed my order:
Hooker With A Penis
Jambi
The Grudge
Pushit
Eulogy
H.
Parabol
Parabola
Prison Sex
---------------
Lateralus
Maynard's Dick(catch everyone off guard)
Stinkfist
The Pot
Eon Blue Apocalypse
The Patient
Sober
No Quarter(The Return of...)
Schism
Vicarious
-----------
Right in Two
Opiate
----------
Aenima
Forty Six & 2
I am seeing a common theme throughout this thread. If I were to send a letter to Tool and their management, it seems that the majority of their fans want to hear some of the following songs live, at some point during live concerts: (In chronological release order)
4 Degrees
Flood
Undertow
Crawl Away
Prison Sex
Swamp Song
Eulogy
H.
Jimmy
Pushit
Third Eye
The Grudge
Parabol(a)
Disposition/Reflection
These are songs that are not in the current rotation. The rest of the songs that people are listing, are for the most part currently being played.
This is simply a summation of what's been a resounding theme within this thread. Please give us some of our old favorites. Most of us are desperately wanting to hear some of these at some point. Make the roadtrips people take, worthwhile so that the show they see at home, isn't the same show that they see on the road.
We hear lots of the band's newest catalog between 10,000 Days and Lateralus (notwithstanding Wings/10,000 Days but we all want to hear that too), but not enough Undertow and Aenima.
Hopefully my intentions are received not on deaf ears, I'm not hoping to shed any negative light on this subject or situation. I just want to see more of the music that made me love this band.
Ultimate for me:
Hooker with a Penis
Cold and Ugly
10,000 Days
Bottom
46&2
Right In Two
Third Eye
Closer:
Parabol(a) combo
-----------
Encore:
Rosetta Stoned
