When does everybody think think the next album will be out?
There was a 5 year gap between Aenima and Lateralus, at the time a gap that I thought was mainly because of the dispute with the record Company. Then there was a 5 year gap between Lateralus and 10K Days, I guess mainly because of Maynards work with Perfect Circle.
So, in theory, now that there isn't really any outside distractions (that we know of), could we expect the next Album 4 years after 10K Days, maybe?
Is there going to be another Album?
What are your thoughts?

Puscifer? Maynard's Wine? Not to mention their current round of touring.
I wouldn't be surprised with another 5+ year wait. I also wouldn't be surprised if they just decided to do something else with the rest of their lives.

Puscifer, as far as I'm aware, is done with. He's released an Album, that's pretty much it.
Maynards wine isn't really a distraction is it?
Wouldn't it be nice if they finished their tour, took a 6 month break, and then went back into the Studio!!!

Maynard has to rest, he can't sing like it's necessary for a new album unles he doesn't scream or sing high notes. He couldn't sing swamp song, he didn't do the vicarious scream at the end anymore, the stinkfist scream, no distorted voices on 46 & 2, several throat infections along the tour and shows cancelled... man he has to rest.
Maybe 2 years until he's fine for recording, then he'll blow his throat again in the first six months of touring and we start over...

My understanding is that they still have at least 1 more album in their contract (not to mention that that already have some works in progress). I can't find the link either but there was an interview with (I think it was) Adam whom said they plan on making albums until they can't perform anymore, but who knows. Especially as the artists that they are it's quite plausible that it'll take them a few years to kind of empty their palates/cups and refill with new thoughts and emotions/energy before they will start working on it again.

Ok, so going on the basis that they release an album every 5 years, when should the next one be?
2011, right? Jesus, that's a long time away:)
When did they announce that they were in the Studio recording the last album? How long before it actually came out was it?

Justin definitely said they all want the next album to be done quicker.
But Maynard has also said it wont be out until 2009 at the EARLIEST.
Theyve said basically that they want to TRY to do the next one quicker and that they will take maybe a year off after the tour then get right back to work.

maynard seems to be making a point of saying 'see you soon, real soon' at the end of every gig (read reviews). could be hinting at a faster turnaround maybe?

i smell adam, justin, and danny solo projects
blair mentioned a while back about a danny solo album
i also think tool will make another album, probably their last though. adam said 10KD took about a year and a half to make, the rest of the 5 years was spent doing what they wanted to do. also, in a recent interveiw with justin i think it was, he said that the next album wouldnt take as long to be released because they realize they are getting kind of old, and some other reasons, i cant remember. plus how do you think that tool would leave us with 10KD as the LAST tool album, i think they will try and throw lateralus out of the water with the next one. 10KD seems more like an album they did what they have always wanted to do on an album but never had the chance because of strict structure to songs, and they really let go on it, and i think it sounds fucking great, but i say one more strictly structured album will come out

I think Maynard was not always belting out the high notes on the 10K Days tour for two reasons: he can't hack it for 200+ shows (as others have said), but also because he probably could give a shit about many of the crowds he has to play to. It's actually pretty smart on his part. You have to figure that the guys in Tool know that a certain percentage of their shows are going to be in front of obnoxious, piece-of-shit crowds. Maynard also knows that his voice isn't what it used to be, at least consistently (both shows I went to for 10K Days, Maynard belted out EVERY high note...every one). So I think he just kills two birds with one stone. He saves his voice for the shows where people actually get into it and give him extremely positive feedback, and for the shows that are for asshole crowds, he just says "fuck it" and doesn't give the crowd his full attention, because the crowd isn't giving him theirs.
I think Tool will definitely release at least one more album, and I think they'll probably release more. Maynard said in that Spin interview that they'll all play together until one dies, and I believe that. It doesn't mean, though, that they'll still be putting out albums every 5 years. They're getting older, it's only natural.
Besides: do you really want to see Tool wind up like Gilmour's Pink Floyd? No thank you, I'll gladly let them retire and leave me with 4 wonderful albums than go on to become hollow artistic ghosts.

Apparently you're trying to hard to be loser, as for worshiping you???
my cat shits better than you.. Who are you to come into a forum and boast of diety..
You sir are a Carbuncle ( that may be too big a word for you.. so i hope you can read
Carbuncle is made up of several skin boils. The infected mass is filled with fluid, pus, and dead tissue. Fluid may drain out of the carbuncle, but sometimes the mass is so deep that it cannot drain on its own. Carbuncles may develop anywhere, but they are most common on the back and the nape of the neck.
I suggest you go back to the primordial ooze from wence you came.

Ironically, wouldn't that be perfect timing to coincide with the Mayan Doomsday date.

Call me crazy, but I think it takes more of a loser to troll some fan website (of a group you are putting down, by the way) spouting off and criticizing folks going about their comradery and thoughtful posts, peacefully and constructively exchanging thoughts and ideas. Of course I have to allow for the fact that maybe you're just some twelve year old who didn't get the Ipod he wanted for Christmas or something. Pretty lame either way, you ask me.
Anyhow, you try singing like Maynard as prolifically as he has for ten+ years. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize the level of energy Maynard puts into his singing is highly exceptional in rock, and the music industry as a whole. You listen to the radio, let alone pour through torrents, and you may find two or three other singers in all of the music industry who come ANYWHERE CLOSE, and they are still missing it by a mile. Attempting to emulate his lyrical creativity alone, wears me the hell out.
That said, though I hate to make the comparrison of Maynard to an athlete, I suppose most of us could agree that's really what he is. A vocal athlete, and a number one draft pick at that. So just as those guys get paid millions per year, and are worn out by 35. Well give him a break, he has done pretty amazingly. He needs to rest for at least a year, imo. But there's nothing that prevents him and everybody else from writing during that time, keep in mind.

|
Really well put, I agree.

IMO, it will come out around 2011. Think about it; the time-frame between Ænima and Lateralus was 5 years, but that was because of a lawsuit (and a 2 year long tour) plus Maynard working with APC. Between Lateralus and 10K was also 5 years; mainly because of APC and also because it took around 2 years to get the album together (from what I heard). I'm guessing the members probably want a break, maybe a mini-tour, and Maynard might work with another band (I'd love to see CAD re-uniting again).
Or how about December 21, 2012? That's when the Mayan calender says our Earth cycle will end and another one will start up (in short, the destruction of our Earth.)

I'm thinking a late 2010, early 2011 release date. I'm guessing they take a year off to rest and relax if they are indeed done touring in support of 10,000 Days (which I think they are). It wouldn't surprise me, however, if the new one didn't come out until 2012.

Carbuncle is made up of several skin boils. The infected mass is filled with fluid, pus, and dead tissue.

I dont know why i'm back looking through these forums. it always gets me agitated.
I wish Maynard could sing like he used to but there are 3 other guys to watch on stage and they've been solid every time i've seen them. I got to stand right in front of Justin for their final show in Vegas and it was insane. He seems to write lots of tricky riffs, and took it to a higher level for this album.
I'd be down for a more instrumental album, if mayard is getting weak. whatever they come up with will be better than any other heavy music around now.

"Prolifically"?? Please. You make it sound like they've been touring steadily for the past 10 years. They've done a little over 400 shows in 10 years. Hardly a throat shattering amount of gigs. Annie Lennox probably has done more shows. :^))
"Energy"???? With the exception of a handful of shows, many of us couldn't even hear Maynard. Read the reviews. And when we COULD hear him, he was using a bullhorn.

also I read in an interview where Maynard said they'd be making music together till one of them is dead. I know better then to take every word he says seriously, but I hope this is true.

Most likely not. As much as I'd love it, I'm sure they eventually will want to kick back and just retire with their own endeavors. You can only handle so many years of your life being on tour and in the studio once you have a family.

A dvd would be very cool in the downtime between albums. But I would enjoy them releasing a live double cd. All the extended versions and intros has to be on disc. Also, with stereoscopic pics of course.

Judging on that picture of Danny they might be laying down a few ideas already. Nice thought. A Danny solo album would be sweet though.
