10,000 days was and remains one of the oddest albums I have ever heard, and certainly the most bizaare tool album, and thats saying alot!
WIngs for Marie, Lipan Conjuring, Lost Keys and Vigniti Tres are so bizarre they defy explanation really.
Additionally 10,000 days was the first album, where tool seemed to be saying, "there is no hope", as opposed to previous albums when they seemed to hold out some hope that people would wake up and that there would be this mass consciousness that would make the world a better place. That was NOWHERE to be found on 10,000 days.
What do you think the new album will sound like, as its not like since 2006 there has been a big awakening or anything. Wars and violence continue.

Based off MJK"s myspace an twitter accounts I think he's still going through a mid-life-crisis, and I don't really expect much of anything out of his lyrics.
Musically I'm really not sure. I have a felling it's gonna be a bit darker, or maybe that's more a hope than a feeling.

10,000 Days was their "Blues Album". Since this record was considered, by the band, as their best effort, I expect the next album to have hints of similarity. It doesn't matter to me because their music will always be unique, dark, driving, inspiring and first and foremost good art.

i think maynard's lyrics have always been awesome. but considering how he's opened up to the media now, who know's what the new album will be like. im pretty sure we can expect more awesomeness from the other guys, but lyricwise, im expecting maybe some rap?

Personally I think it would be "golden" if they revisited the Anemia days..... However, after that album I was VERY happy w/ 10K DAYS, more so than Lateralus - which is a great album also.

Anemic bolemic enema anima, you say potato, i say retard.
here's the secret definition though: A girl with a male consciossness who has low red blood cells and regularly throws up her food and cleanes her anal canal with a turkey baster. sounds like my kind of chick.

any reason why the title and the initial post are contradictory?

Wild Ass Guess:
Something more akin to Undertow and Ænima than Lateralus and 10,000 Days. Hopefully this one will have a more cohesive feel like Ænima and Lateralus. I think MJK is done being political, but I think he's still pissed off. I expect more straight forward humor in the lyrics than we're used to.
For totally different reasons, I don't think we'll ever get Lateralus II or 10,000 Days II, I think this one might be the closest thing possible to Ænima II.
I think it's good for Tool that MJK has been doing Puscifer in his time off instead of APC. Thirteenth Step is one of my favorite albums, but I tend to think double duty of writing/recording/touring for MJK hurt 10,000 Days.
I like 10,000 Days overall, but it feels more like 2 or 3 unrelated suites than one album.

there's a better chance tool won't put out a new album before they put a sequel to a previous album.. don't think its in their nature to repeat themselves.
