I think it's Ganja Puh-lease (Please)...you must have been out your mind!!

This is my take on what the song is about..

It makes sense as the whole song is about him being in disbelief that whomever did or said something to him and the only thing that makes sense is that they must've been "High" to have the audacity to do or say whatever it was.

And if they were saying or accusing him of being high on pot, he's saying "Ganja Puh-lease" you must've of been out of your mind to be saying something like that to me when you're guilty of the same thing which is where the saying "isn't that the pot calling the kettle black" pertains to this song.

Either that, or after this other party realized what they said or did and how they acted and tried to apologize or make an excuse about their actions saying they were high on pot at the time or whatever it was they were high on, he's saying "give me a break, you weren't high on pot, that's just an excuse and it's not going to fly".

I think ganja police is just kinda out of left field and doesn't really work with the lyrics preceeding that part or the overall context of the song's other lyrics.

I agree, i dont think Ganja police makes much sense anyway.

I'm positive it's not "What's the difference," and after listening to the album version and a live version, I'm pretty sure that there's an 'f' instead of a 'p' in "reaper." I think it's:

[After slowing down the track I'm 99% positive it's an f and not a p.]

I also think it's "for ya" instead of "voyeur."

Well, you could say "what's deliverance?" sometimes, because Maynard really makes it sound like that, but I guess it's wrong.

So, I've noticed on the Lyric page of TDN, this line is listed as:

I think the part in [ ] is 'gotcha blind'. Have a listen. Especially at the Pinkpop live performance I think it's easily picked up on. Sorry if this has been discussed, but I did a quick search and could not find anything. Long time watcher, first time poster :) Seeing Tool in Sept, can't wait!

last line meaning... not even being high could justify your actions and way of thinking...

also he says "I'm balls deep in muddy waters..." and "you pissed all over my black kettle.." which is the author's way of saying he's not without some blame/hypocrisy... but just not nearly as much as the subject he's referring to in the song.

You guys still think that line near the end says ganja something? I think it says 'got ya blind' .... 'gotcha blind'... eyeballs deep in muddy water gotcha blind. I started a thread in the wrong forum under The Pot by accident, but if you listen to/see the Pinkpop live version of the song I think it's definitely gotcha blind. What do you think?

I believe it's "Ganja please" cause like the other man stated Maynard would be saying you could not have been on drugs you're just out of your mind.

Well, sometimes Maynard changes the lyrics live so it's quit possible that you heard a different live version. But on the album I think it's gonja please.

Just because they both make sense it doesn't mean it's both accurate and he changes it form time to time. A lot of stuff makes sense, that is the whole damned thing of figuring out the lyrics. And Maynard changes live something like eyeballs to eyeball, not a sentence that sounds like another one.

I was just offering it up as a suggestion, that's all. They both make sense to me, so I just wanted to hear others opinions as well. This is a great board and I've learned a ton by reading. Figured I would throw my two cents in, is all! :)

Yes. But saying he sings "Got ya blind" live and "Ganja Police" on the studio record, just because it's two different shots on what the lyrics might be (and they both make sense) sounds a little far-fetched to me.

If it seems like that, then it's probably none of the two. But it's true, he never sings the "s" at the end live. Maybe only to make it flowing better into "you" or on the record it isn't important, or there is no "s".

Could be "god, you're blind". Scream it out like you're singing the end.

On the album version at least, this is definitely incorrect. The last part of the line is "...~ize!". "Lies" would work, as would "police" or "please" if sung a little strangely, but there's no way "blind" can be sung to sound like "blize".

I'll agree with the first part of your suggestion though. It does sound more like "Gotcha" than "Ganja" to me. My first guess on this (b4 coming to TDN) was "Gotta be lies", but someone else here suggested "Gotcha for lies" and of all the suggestions so far I think that this is the best.

Why? As many have said before, the point is that being "high," as he says throughout the song, couldnt justify what the subject of the song did or said. The writer decides on this a the end of the song, when he says "Ganja? Puh-LEASE! You must have been out your mind!"

That is to say "High? Fuck no, you were out of your goddamned mind!"

I understand what you are saying. And all I'm saying is that I am pretty sure the studio version is "Ganja please" but I feel sometimes Maynard let's the music take him away on stage and he very well could have said "Gat ya blind" maybe even "God you're blind" which wouldn't sound to bad with the song. Because I don't think the other gentleman would post that lyric here if he didn't think it was sung live.

Well, dude with Maynard you just never know. I don't know what the version sounds like the other guy is talking about so I can't say for sure. But I also wanted him to know that their is no way to say for sure that he was wrong so I guess I'm keeping all my options open. Know what I mean??

I have to agree, that Maynard wouldn't sing 2 different things, one live and one in the studio that "sound" the same for the sake of sounding the same.

i would think that "ganja please, you must have been out your mind" means something like... 'been out your mind' DOES refer to being high, but i think it's like saying "too high for pot"

i used to think that the lyrics at the end were "Catch up with lies" but after reading the reasoning behinnd "Ganja? Puhleeze!" it actually makes a lot of sense.

Just by listening to the song normally, I'm pretty sure I hear the word Ganja in there. I've slowed it down for the hell of it, and it still sounds like he says it. Not sure if it's "Ganja Police!" or "Ganja Please!" though.

Saying "puhleeze" all the time is a bit annoying. The word is please. We all know how he sings it.
