This is my take on what the song is about..
It makes sense as the whole song is about him being in disbelief that whomever did or said something to him and the only thing that makes sense is that they must've been "High" to have the audacity to do or say whatever it was.
And if they were saying or accusing him of being high on pot, he's saying "Ganja Puh-lease" you must've of been out of your mind to be saying something like that to me when you're guilty of the same thing which is where the saying "isn't that the pot calling the kettle black" pertains to this song.
Either that, or after this other party realized what they said or did and how they acted and tried to apologize or make an excuse about their actions saying they were high on pot at the time or whatever it was they were high on, he's saying "give me a break, you weren't high on pot, that's just an excuse and it's not going to fly".
I think ganja police is just kinda out of left field and doesn't really work with the lyrics preceeding that part or the overall context of the song's other lyrics.

I'm positive it's not "What's the difference," and after listening to the album version and a live version, I'm pretty sure that there's an 'f' instead of a 'p' in "reaper." I think it's:
Steal, borrow, reefer save your
Shady inference
[After slowing down the track I'm 99% positive it's an f and not a p.]
I also think it's "for ya" instead of "voyeur."

Well, you could say "what's deliverance?" sometimes, because Maynard really makes it sound like that, but I guess it's wrong.

So, I've noticed on the Lyric page of TDN, this line is listed as:
Eyeballs deep in bloody waters
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
[Ganja police / Ganja? P-lease! / Got to believe / ??]
You must have been out your mind
I think the part in [ ] is 'gotcha blind'. Have a listen. Especially at the Pinkpop live performance I think it's easily picked up on. Sorry if this has been discussed, but I did a quick search and could not find anything. Long time watcher, first time poster :) Seeing Tool in Sept, can't wait!
EDIT: Did not see the lyric forum right above this before I posted, if a mod would like to move it there I would appreciate it, thanks, and apologies!

Who are you to wave your finger
You must’ve been out your hair
Eyehole deep in muddy waters
You practically raised the dead
Rob the grave to snow the cradle
Then burn the evidence down
Soapbox house of cards and glass so
Don’t go tossin’ your stones around
You must’ve been high
You must’ve been high
You must’ve been
Foot in mouth and head up ass
So whatcha talkin ‘bout
Difficult to dance ‘round this one
’Till you pull it out, boy
You must’ve been so high
You must’ve been so high
Steal, borrow reefer
Save your shady inference
Kangaroo done hung the juror
With the innocent
Now, you’re weeping shades of chosen indigo
Got a lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must’ve been high, high
You must’ve been high, high
Who are you to wave your finger
So full of it
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Fuckin hypocrite
Liar, lawyer, mirror show me
What’s the difference?
Kangaroo done hung the guilty
With the innocent
Now, you’re weeping shades of chosen indigo
Got a lemon juice up in your high eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must’ve been…
So who are you to wave your finger
Who are you to wave your fatty fingers at me
You must have been out of your mind
Weeping shades of indigo
Trapped without a reason
Weeping shades of indigo
Liar, lawyer, mirror for ya
What's the difference?
Kangaroo, be stoned
He’s guilty as the government now...
you’re weeping shades of chosen indigo
Got a lemon juice up in your eye, eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must’ve been... high, high, high, high
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
'n I'm balls deep in muddy waters...
Ganja Puhleaze... you must have been out your mind....
last line meaning... not even being high could justify your actions and way of thinking...
also he says "I'm balls deep in muddy waters..." and "you pissed all over my black kettle.." which is the author's way of saying he's not without some blame/hypocrisy... but just not nearly as much as the subject he's referring to in the song.

You guys still think that line near the end says ganja something? I think it says 'got ya blind' .... 'gotcha blind'... eyeballs deep in muddy water gotcha blind. I started a thread in the wrong forum under The Pot by accident, but if you listen to/see the Pinkpop live version of the song I think it's definitely gotcha blind. What do you think?

I believe it's "Ganja please" cause like the other man stated Maynard would be saying you could not have been on drugs you're just out of your mind.

Well, sometimes Maynard changes the lyrics live so it's quit possible that you heard a different live version. But on the album I think it's gonja please.

Just because they both make sense it doesn't mean it's both accurate and he changes it form time to time. A lot of stuff makes sense, that is the whole damned thing of figuring out the lyrics. And Maynard changes live something like eyeballs to eyeball, not a sentence that sounds like another one.

I listened to 4 degrees yesterday and is was kinda different so I think he might change it around some from time to time.

And actually didn't "Bottom" Get changed live?? I believe the Henry Rollins part is completely different now.

Yes. But saying he sings "Got ya blind" live and "Ganja Police" on the studio record, just because it's two different shots on what the lyrics might be (and they both make sense) sounds a little far-fetched to me.
If it seems like that, then it's probably none of the two. But it's true, he never sings the "s" at the end live. Maybe only to make it flowing better into "you" or on the record it isn't important, or there is no "s".

If it seems like that, then it's probably none of the two. But it's true, he never sings the "s" at the end live. Maybe only to make it flowing better into "you" or on the record it isn't important, or there is no "s".

Could be "god, you're blind". Scream it out like you're singing the end.

On the album version at least, this is definitely incorrect. The last part of the line is "...~ ize!". "Lie s" would work, as would "poli ce" or "plea se" if sung a little strangely, but there's no way "blind" can be sung to sound like "blize".
I'll agree with the first part of your suggestion though. It does sound more like "Gotcha" than "Ganja" to me. My first guess on this (b4 coming to TDN) was "Gotta be lies", but someone else here suggested "Gotcha for lies" and of all the suggestions so far I think that this is the best.

He does modify the live lyrics.
Taken from this site's FAQ:
This is the Rollins version, featured on "Undertow":
If I let you, you would make me destroy myself. In order to survive you, I must first survive myself. I can sink no further, and I cannot forgive you. There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There is no other choice. Shameless now. Nameless now. Nothing now. No one now. But my soul must be iron, 'cause my fear is naked. I'm naked and fearless, and my fear is naked.
And, for the curious, this is the MJK-version; he still sings this:
You've left me no choice but to go inside and rebuild what's broken. Too much, too far, too late to lie down now. I must arm myself to fight you by making weapons out of my imperfections. It's all I have left. There's no other choice. I'm shameless, nameless, nothing, and no one now. But my soul must be iron for my fear is naked. I'm naked and fearless. But I'm dead inside. You see... shit adds up, now I'm dead inside. Hatred, weakness, and guilt keep me alive at the bottom.

Ganja? Puh-LEASE!
Why? As many have said before, the point is that being "high," as he says throughout the song, couldnt justify what the subject of the song did or said. The writer decides on this a the end of the song, when he says "Ganja? Puh-LEASE! You must have been out your mind!"
That is to say "High? Fuck no, you were out of your goddamned mind!"
A great finish to the song, imho. :)

neither an "f" or a "p" - but rather a "v" - it is reiver.

I understand what you are saying. And all I'm saying is that I am pretty sure the studio version is "Ganja please" but I feel sometimes Maynard let's the music take him away on stage and he very well could have said "Gat ya blind" maybe even "God you're blind" which wouldn't sound to bad with the song. Because I don't think the other gentleman would post that lyric here if he didn't think it was sung live.

Yes, but do you think he invented something that "sounds" exactly like the studio thing and sings it live? Is it coincidence that the whole "sound" thing is just a thing of desciphering lyrics?

Well, dude with Maynard you just never know. I don't know what the version sounds like the other guy is talking about so I can't say for sure. But I also wanted him to know that their is no way to say for sure that he was wrong so I guess I'm keeping all my options open. Know what I mean??

I have to agree, that Maynard wouldn't sing 2 different things, one live and one in the studio that "sound" the same for the sake of sounding the same.
As far as the alternate lyrics of Bottom, yes it's very cool. I've seen it at least once before, but I doubt more than once.

i would think that "ganja please, you must have been out your mind" means something like... 'been out your mind' DOES refer to being high, but i think it's like saying "too high for pot"

Just by listening to the song normally, I'm pretty sure I hear the word Ganja in there. I've slowed it down for the hell of it, and it still sounds like he says it. Not sure if it's "Ganja Police!" or "Ganja Please!" though.

Is anyone else leaning toward "KING GURU" instead of "Kangaroo." Its more befitting the lyrics of the song that the villan be a KING since the song is obviously about hypocracy and corrupt authority. Kangaroo, although that is what is sounds like he says just seems out of place amongst the rest of the lyrics.
