does this logic apply to Tool? you know, competent band mates who can write an album without him, etc, etc....

From what I have gathered from Maynard's interviews in the past decade, it seems that it is very important for him to be personally hands on during the whole process. For example, Les Claypool admits that a lot of his wine growing/picking is done by others. I very highly doubt Les Claypool's wine makes more money than Maynard's, due to the fact that they are both independent wine makers that sales are partially helped by the fact that they are know musicians, and Maynard and his bands are more popular than Claypool and his bands. Yet Claypool Cellars can still afford to hire people for this process. So I do think that Maynard can hire others if he chose to, but I think it is important for him on an emotional and spiritual level to be as hands-on as he is.
Again, I don't have any actual statistics on or know anyone personally, so this is all speculation. But with technology these days, the three guys can send Maynard music and he can listen while doing all the wine stuff.

Exactly! By the interviews he seems very invested. That's why it seems so odd for him to be in LA during the most crucial time period for his harvest. Like i said it may mean nothing, but it can't be a bad sign.

I hope Seth Meyer's band doesn't try to play any tool songs. When Tim Alexander went on Late Night, they tried to play some Primus songs - it was not good.

I remember watching Paul Shaffer's band on David Letterman play The Pot during a comerical break. It sounded pretty cool. I think I even heard them play another Tool song some other time I was watching.

Maynard throws it to Paul Shaffer during a live performance on Letterman with Puscifer. Shaffer is from my hometown - Thunder Bay, ON (though he dumbs it down as Toronto). My dad used to jam with him in highschool and we own his first grand piano. /rant

Ha I have a good bud in Tampa from TB - used to work for the Lightning and he is the reason I got to drink beer from the Stanley Cup and own a replica Championship Ring.

PS Bolts win it all next season, bank on it.

And that organ jam at the end of Conditions of My Parole by PS is dope!

Id like to see it busted out on a tour setting other than the fact that it would take up a good portion of the set lol.

It was 3-4 days after Max attended the Tool show at The Meadowlands or in Long Island (one of those).

Paul and the band used to play "Schism" all the time.

Haha, he does though! I guess he got out of Thunder Bay ASAP like everyone else does. People often confused Thunder Bay with North Bay, and say "oh thats not far", and i'm like "dude its a 17 hour drive and you don't leave the province!"

I would have no issues with a lost keys+rosetta intro. i was never on board the anti-10kd bandwagon, and my first ever tool show was opened with those 2 songs.

Thank you! You helped my memory. I used to watch a lot of Conan and Letterman and their play with the bands was really fun. Max was always funny and Paul was sometimes funny but both bands played killer music. I saw Letterman live in 2003 and the band during the commercial breaks was really awesome. I catch Conan ever so often on TBS, but I watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert almost every night. Colberts political commentary is just so good that I try to watch it when I can. Only thing I can't get down with is how much he loves the Catholic Church and with how much terrible stuff they have covered up, I can't believe he still believes in it and supports the church.

So enough of the late night talk show talk. I am so stoked that the Salt Lake City Tool show is less than a month away. I will be traveling from San Diego to see this show and going back to the place I grew up and lived until 2011. Going to the show with my friends that reintroduced me to Tool in 2003. They all have children so can't travel and see them as much as I have since 2006, so it's really special to see Tool live with them. I have been lucky enough to live in Southern California and been able to afford to travel and see Tool 5 times since 2012. I have been lucky enough to see Tool live 14 times since 2006. I was a lite fan of Tool when Lateralus came out and they even played a show in Orem, Ut(born and raised) in 2002, but the friends I had at that time were Mormon and said Tool worships Satan and they didn't want to go to the show with me. I was way to sheltered and shy to go to the show by myself, but my current friends went to that show and said it was amazing. I regret not seeing that show because it was one of the last Lateralus shows and the setlist was pretty awesome.
SIDE NOTE: that is why I hope that Tool comes out with a live DVD of the Lateralus tour because I just barely missed it and would love to see a great film quality and sound of those shows. Fingers crossed that it makes the light of day for fans like me that got into the game late.

So after high school(graduated 03) I meet this current group of friends and they sat me down and we smoke a joint and listened to Eulogy. Never did I think of Tool the same. At that time I was working at a radio station in SLC called x96 and did the weekend midnight to 6 am shift. I was obsessed with Tool and frequented this message board and Toolshed and listened to the live stuff that distortiononline.com had streaming on their website. I would spend a lot of my downtime at work looking into the band and looking at lyrics and trying to find meaning to them. My program manager threatened to fire me because at the beginning of my shift I would play a Tool song instead of playing the opening shit song like Green Days American Idoit song that was programmed in the computer playlist system. He caught me deleting the first song after midnight and inserting one of the few Tool songs that was on the computer. So this is back in 2003 and they still had the walls of the studio lined with CD's and so I figured out that I could just mute the computer song and insert a Tool CD from the studio and play my opening Tool song that way and I never got caught again. Tool songs are obviously longer than any other songs out there so I could just pause the computer setlist and let the Tool song finish. I was so into Tool that I was stalking toolband and toolnavy all the time for new album updates and I still haven't learned my leason because I still stalk toolband and Fourtheye now for new album details. When they announced the new album was being recorded in the beginning of 2006 and that they were going to be headlining Coachella I had to go.

So Coachella was my first Tool show and I made every effort to see them every year they toured the states and I have pretty much done that. The only show I have been disappointed in was 2009 SLC show. I think it was 9 songs and the excatly same setlist as they played in SLC in 07, minus Wings 1&2 and really seemed like a uninspired short little tour. It still was Tool live and I enjoyed moments of it but I was living up in Idaho for the summer and my ex wife and I traveled down to SLC to see Tool and Incubus in the same weekend. Hate to say it, but Incubus was more enjoyable. We had GA for Incubus and the pit was so small and we had so much space to stand that it felt like they were just playing a private show for my ex and I.

I have been so happy with the shows from 2012 till now. Being a late bloomer for live Tool I have been able to see songs that I never thought I would see live; The Grudge, Thirdeye, Pushit, Hooker, Ticks, Intolerance, Sweat, No Quarter, and Parabol/Parabola. What a great list of songs and because they haven't had a new record I was able to see these songs live. I am really "Jonesing" for some new material but to bring this novel of a post back I am so happy to see them live again with my true friends.

Junior, you rock and thanks for the great live light shows! I hope that 2017 will be a year filled with live Tool playing their new record and I will be at as many shows as financially possible.

I don't know what's better Chiller: Your subversion of mandated radio playlists (fuckin awesome) or your awakening to the absurdity of Mormon groupthink.

Either way, its good to have you on board the Tool Train! Better late than never!

p.s. Did you make it to the recent S.D. shows with Primus? They were badass.

hi all.

sending this message in support of a friend of mine, who I met earlier this year through this forum, Meep. he was a friend of sadsummersea (a formal mod) who I met in NOLA at the tool show earlier this year.

his son died a few days ago. he's going through a very rough time as one would expect.

sending positive vibes his way.

on behalf of this incredible community, Meep, we're here for you.

To be fair, there's very few people on reddit which are assuming it's true.

There are plenty who assume people are going hysterical over it though.
