Asteroids, I think. Yeah. Might have been longer ago than 2014. Can't remember.

Yep, I'm completely cool with the concept of the band having a break, but house light and a clock just seem to ruin the immersion, and is a missed opportunity considering how much visual art the band has on hand. Even just a big screen viewing of any of their existing music videos would be better than what they do currently.

You guys are missing that it may be mandatory at some venues for the house lights to be put on for safety. If one or two require it, they may set the whole tour up to accommodate them.

It could easily be a Fire Code in SF.

but judging from the song, they only have about 3 minutes of that warping sheet metal sound, so the rest of the time would either be looped or just static

Yes.

Complaining about the setlist is too mainstream.

Round these parts we complain about the intermission.

Deal with it.

They don't turn the lights on during bands that go off stage for encores (not here in Oz at least anyway).

Im betting that if there is such a rule it has a time stipulation. Now I'm intrigued and will look into it.

I've had problems in the seats with people that shuffle in and out for beer and such... Being able to tell them "wait for intermission" usually helps them focus on the show and not come and go every other song... And I like the look on their face when you tell them a metal show will have an intermission. I agree that the old MOOG/light show breaks were way cooler than an actual intermission, it's just these ADD alcoholics need to be controlled somehow.

I would never go get a beer during a tool set but id surely laugh very hard in your face and continue to the concession stand if you tried to tell me i needed to wait until intermission haha.

it wasn't like that. the one time i said it (to someone i wasn't with) was during a conversation with a couple 'bros' in the seat next to me before Tool took the stage. Towards the end they asked if i thought they had enough time to grab more beers before the show started… i suggested they just wait till intermission. They were dumbfounded at the idea, but it didn't really matter because they spent the whole show running back and forth for more beer & turning around to snort K in my wife's face. At least they had the courtesy to offer to share.

"waiting for intermission" has come up in the groups I've gone with more often than anything.

besides being dickish, i feel like telling someone to wait would be more distracting than just moving real quick.

Ahh when you put it like that it makes more sense. I usually just chill during intermission. I don't mind the intermission but i really wish it didn't cut into the set length. although knowing them if they didn't have it they would probably just play an hour and 40 minutes instead lol.

So after doing some research I can say with some confidence that the lights going on at intermission is not up to the band.

As far as the difference between intermission and and encore:

Intermission: leave your seat and go buy stuff.

Encore: don't leave your seat we'll be right back.

It is 100% up to the band as to whether they call it an Intermission or an Encore though.

why even call it an intermission? you can just label the track "12 minutes of our light & laser guys fucking with you with some trippy sounds in the background", like they did circa 2009/2010.

I'd have to say, their intermission has always surprised me. In Tucson '07 they banned lighters in the venu, collecting them in a bin at the door... During their trip-scape intermission the whole crowed held up their lighters & it was beautiful. The first time they had the intermission clock I laughed like a mutherfucker... I felt like they got tired of people calling Danny's MOOG solos "intermission" so TOOL gave them an intermission... Then did the MOOG solo. The first time lights popped on & flashed before the 2nd act started like at the orchestra- again, hit me right in the giggledick. I guess it's just part of the whole experience and I don't really mind. Yes, the triply light show was cool... But so is the intermission. i say they should do their show then just run the MOOG/lights for another hour while the parking lot clears out.

Justins reaction when asked about the album in the interview i say yesterday =)))))))))

he looked visibly annoyed at even the prospect of the question.

he did say though " just trust me the album is in the oven, its cooking, and its going to be awesome"

Not sure I agree with that, looked more to me like he was being sarcastic.

Cool interview none the less.

Kind of an odd coincidence that I met Scott Reeder a week before bass camp, if I would have known he and JC were good buds I would have pumped him for new album info...

Not sure that would have been useful though - every time I've heard someone speak to a friend of Tool in regards to the albums progress it seems they are even more optimistic than the band!

unrelated, but going to see Russian Circles in a few weeks. they are currently touring. they opened for Tool once upon a time. FANTASTIC instrumental band. check them out if you're not familiar.

So Maynard's in LA right smack dab in the middle of harvest season. This can't be a bad thing right? Hahah

I doubt that Maynard needs to be at the vineyard every day of the harvest. I imagine he has competent staff who are able to work a couple of days without him.

Hes stated before that he can not be bothered from Sept 1st until basically Halloween. He does have staff but iv heard him say he handles the actual wine making process himself. Well him and his wife. Maybe he has staff that does it now, or maybe it was a bad year with the lack of water and heat?
