@ToolPusicferAPC on twitter and instagram seems to do live setlist updates. I don't know the relation they have to all Maynard's projects, but seems to be at every Maynard show posting pics, setlist etc as they happen. So I'd suggest following that over setlist.fm for live updates.

[SPOILERS] [SPOILERS] [SPOILERS] [SPOILERS] [SPOILERS]
10/24 Salt Lake City, UT
- 3TEETH fucking suck.
- Opened with Third Eye. Third Eye is the absolute worst song to open with. It's not an energetic, hard-hitting song. It's not that impressive live, in general.
- Lights, lasers, and videos/imagery are fucking awesome (highlight of the show)
- Maynard has absolutely no voice. Everyone knows that but it bears repeating. There will be no aggressive singing on the new (LOL) album.
- Maynard didn't even attempt the yell in The Grudge
- Extended version of Opiate is cool.
- There was some new instrumental song that I'd never heard before. I really liked it.
- Played Sweat. Crowd had no idea with they were playing.
- Nothing off of Undertow (lame).
- There was a 12 minute intermission with a countdown timer in lights.
- Closed out with Stinkfist. No encore. Per usual, Maynard ran off the stage like the pretentious cunt that he is. Adam, Justin, and Danny were gracious to their fans.
My guess at the setlist. This is very close, if not all the songs they played. The order is certainly wrong.
Third Eye
The Grudge
Parabol/a
Aenima
46&2
Opiate (extended)
Sweat
*Instrumental*
Jambi

SLC set list looks pretty good! People may complain but it looks decent for a short mini-tour. Can it be Wednesday, yet?

I just re-read my review from the SLC show and it comes off more negative than I intended. I wrote that after walking 9 miles home (no hyperbole; FUCK YOU LYFT) so I was tired and bitchy. I figured I'd add a bit more clarity and detail:
I've seen Tool 6-7 times now, so I'm quite familiar with their live style. Overall, it was a very solid show. I missed not hearing Sober since it's one of my all-time favorites and because it's so good live.
To reiterate, I was extremely impressed with the visuals, lights, and lasers. A very colorful show. I know they've reused video before in past shows, but they had a large amount of new very Tool-ish material this time around. They certainly didn't skimp in the production department.
I think Third Eye and 46&2 had an extended portions.
Danny had a little drum solo sesh.
Maynard didn't speak much. Here's what he did say:
- "Ssssssssalt Lake?"
- "So, I noticed there are a lot coffee shops around town. What's up with that, Jack?" (somewhat comical reference to Mormonism's anti-coffee stance and the term Jack-Mormon, which is used to label the little sinner Mormons.)
- "This is going to do it for us. Make sure you take care of each other out there."
Posters are $45. Signed ones are $150. Feel free to snag one of the signed custom bass drum heads for a cool $1500 (or was it only $1200?).

sounds like someone got hosed by surge/primetime pricing.
That's the thing with Uber/Lyft - it's cheap as hell going INTO the venue, but you'll be spending $$$$$ getting out. Generally, it's cheaper to Uber/Lyft in and Cab out.

Going to the Denver show.
Anyone knows how strict they are about smoking inside the venue?

Jambi
Schism
Stinkfist
|
I simply could not disagree with you more on third eye. It's s goddamn great opener. You are correct your setlist order is wrong - go to setlist fm if you want correct order.
I thought Maynard sounded great (he was a bit buried in the mix) - grudge and parabola, not lay ups, were good, come on. He doesn't need to scream for 39'fucking seconds for it to be good.
I will say, ole Maynard seemed to be into the show. Alot of folks always say he looks disinterested. Seemed to enjoy himself. Justin sure did as well, even more so than usual it seemed.
I HATE the intermission. What a way to kill the crowd. And then to come out of it with Danny solo, sweat and stinkfist. Sit around for 12 mins and they play for maybe 12 more max.
Over and done in under 2 hours with intermission. Not a surprise I know but man they always leave you wanting more. Just one or two more songs.
Was hoping for more of ascending descending but knew deep down that was not going to happen.
Good show as always.

There has been. Sounds more or less the same as previous tours, Adam has apparently mentioned they have two albums worth of material, but only 5 songs "good enough" to be considered ready.
Maybe more detail will come out at the next two sessions.

Loved this show. Was hoping I'd get to see them play this set that includes The Grudge. Because I got into Tool just as my last chance to see the Lateralus tour passed, and thus have only been able to see "2006 and beyond" Tool, I had resigned to being content to just see them live whenever I could and not bitch about what they played (I was pissed in '09 after the Mile High Music Festival set, though).
I remember buying Aenima around 1999 or 2000, liking it, listening to it regularly, but not getting it. I didn't buy Lateralus until well after it came out, in 2003. At Clinton lake, just outside Lawrence KS, in my Jetta, after a very long and sad night, I met The Grudge, and all that followed, and woke up the next day with the cliched, tired, but oh-so-true new lens through which I could look at my world and approach my life.
So seeing it now, as it has aged, as I have aged better thanks to it, played by the aged men who created it and so much more that's meaningful to us all, was special.
Nothing new from the last couple sets. I was in a great spot at the venue tonight, so everything sounded clear, well-mixed, and loud.
Maynard was fine and in good spirits. On a taco kick.
Adam, Justin, and Danny killed. They sounded great, and seemed to play with a pace and a chip I hadn't seen really. Fun night.

They also played Descending. I think it was between Aenema & Jambi.
Maynard talked about getting free tacos for life at Cochina tacos in Denver and changed the words in Opiate to "We both want...free tacos".
His voice sounded pretty good this time vs the San Antonio show earlier in the year.
Seat: 3rd row, Adam's side.

I find it really disappointing that Descending hasn't been played in it's entirety on this mini tour. It's not even enough of a song to list in the set list, going by the few sprinkles of recent reviews in this thread.
Anywho, GO CUBS!!

Yeah honestly I had a really good time at the show, but I probably won't be making the cross country track again until a new album.

I thought the new stuff played at Aftershock was pretty killer.

Hello fellow toolheds, got some other things to add from the Denver show....
The setlist is repeating and while there are no "OMG they played ___" moments, the band sounds really tight and the show rocks pretty hard. They are definitely not mailing it in.
Junior and his crew did an amazing job, as always. Not to much new lighting being a mini-mini tour but there were new combinations and (spoiler alert) a firing of glitter cannons at the end of Stinkfist. (And thanks Junior for the set list!)
3rd eye did not have T. Leary or other "bob with the weather" intros but there was some other sampled audio talking that I did not recognize. The song ended with an extended jam that was pretty sick. Same kind of muddled riffing intro as the previous shows. I think they liked the way No Quarter started the last shows as a soft intro and this seems to be in the same vein.
Maynard did put some effort into the Parabol/a, Opiate and Sweat yell/scream parts. While it wasn't full throat, probably 3/4+, it definitely came through and sounded good. I thought the vocals in the sound mix were low, but that's usually the case.
Danny's drum solo is always one of the highlights.
Although the setlist said: Stinkfist (long); They did not play the extended version with the middle jam in it. Wonder why. 3rd eye, Opiate and 46+2 did have extended jams.
Maynard gave a shout out to the Broncos; said "Your altitude sucks, but you guys don't"(lots of laughter); Went on a "free tacos" rant before Opiate and then changed the lyric to "we want...free tacos" instead of "we want, to rape you". Apparently he was granted free tacos for life from the taco shop he was in that day and made sure to rub it in our faces, heh. "How do you get free tacos for life? Oh you don't. Its only me. I love tacos...." Usual "Heard you had an earthquake around here recently" before Aenema. Some people in the crowd didn't get it. "Be nice to each other out there" before Stinkfist. Other quips were made during the show but kinda hard to hear them.
Loved to see Sweat. They fucking ROCKED that song and I was surprised to hear him extend the vocals out just like on the album track. Especially at the end of a show.
A cool thing the crowd did was be quiet for the last few notes of Parabola when Adam kind of trails off with his guitar and lets the notes hang in the air. Everyone was quiet until the notes ended. It was a nice moment before all the cheering and applauding started. I would say 3rd eye, grudge, parabol/a, opiate and sweat were my favorite from the show. Decending was cool but needs to be longer. Or at least jam out some other new material.
Crowd had a great vibe. People had smiles on their faces and high fiving each other after the show in the concourse. In the after show crush to get out, there were two times spontaneous cheering started up and lasted for at least a minute.
Even though the setlist is "stale" the show itself is still kick ass and I'm glad I went. The girl behind us listened to Tool but never went to a show before so it was cool to see her mind get blown.
You could complain about the setlist, ticket prices, short tour, etc. but, its still FUCKIN TOOL LIVE and that never gets old. Here's hoping the new album drops in 2017 and a "real tour" is launched.
Spiral out my friends.

I agree to a point. The live shows are still kick ass but I did catch myself saying "this song again...?!?" more than once.

I missed Sweat both times I saw them on the last tour, so that was a big lift for me. I don't think I've seen that one too many times..

^It was a highlight of the show. I watched the clip I took of the breakdown in the middle and they gave Justin a section of it to solo. He plays so freaking fast and sick. I must have missed it the first time cause I was headbangin so hard.
I actually got the "free tacos" part of Opiate on wax. He held the taaacooooooos for so long. Twice as funny the second time. I'll see if I can get a clip uploaded.

For Schism, Jambi and Aenima mostly. Stinkfist is good for the "I don't want it, I just need it". I've made my peace with 46+2 as a Danny fave.
