how do they work?

like, every month there is a thread entitled something like "good hip-hop". when i search for "rap" or "hip hop" it gives me an error message:

(now the curious part is that it reports the names of two different hip-hop artists in the error...)


can you put up a tutorial on how to search all 1337?

or perhaps enable searching for common, long, and short words?
