My wife and I were talking on the way home on I-80 West as we went past the zoo on Sunday; are the outdoor exhibits open right now? Maybe not the time or place lol, but you are the only person I know that's been to Henry Doorly in the winter.

Thanks for the warm words everyone!
I can’t believe what an awesome tour this has been! A fantastic reason to rally my friends and build positive memories and experiences. Truly a saving grace and exactly what I needed this season.
Of the 5 shows I was able to catch, Salt Lake City and Chicago stood out.
SLC’s crowd energy was in the rafters and it seemed like the band reciprocated. You could feel it and it was a lot of fun.
Chicago’s setlist was my favorite and the band seemed very tight. Undertow was fucking killer to witness. Lots of experimental moments (loved the middle of sober) and I caught a number of new flare/embellishments that make me look forward to future releases.
As always, the audio/visual performance is next level. I intentionally saw the show from different vantage points (center-floor, side stage-balcony, lower bowl-right, club level left, center-rafters) and there really is no bad seat in the house. My preference: lower bowl even with the sound booth, 3 or 4 rows up. It’s a perfect view.
Again, there’s no bad seat in the house. Venue audio has come a long way, but the sonic power and clarity produced at a TOOL concert is unlike any other band. I have seen hundreds of concerts and the 18 TOOL shows I’ve seen stand in their own class.
“It’s like a psychedelic circus where the animals are animated monsters, the ringmaster is the audience, and we are the freak show.”

Exhibit A (for TOOL being the greatest Rock n Roll band of all time)
Pushit (live/slow version, whatever you want to call it)
Done. Game over. Tool wins. Your favorite band loses.

Exhibit B (Lateralus)
How is it possible that a band can top Aenima? Only with the help of aliens? Who knows?

The big animals, like the elephants, were not out. And of course the tram was not running. Too cold. But the desert dome and aquarium were both great. And the Gorilla compound was open, too. There was a decent crowd but it was pretty easy to move around. Honestly tho, if you enjoy observing our animal friends, you owe it to yourself to glamp at the Safari Animal Park’s Roar n Snore in Ramona, CA. Nothing else state-side can top that exp.

Is that the area with the vipers, cobras and mambas? Then yes. Absolutely.
Managed to get event t-shirts for Chi and Omaha and a poster for Omaha. Much respect for the folks willing to stand in line for them before the show. I don't like paying the upcharge, but I get it. This friggin band...

I didn't get a poster for Omaha. We came in the southwest doors and there were 3 merch stands right there with like a 3 hour wait. The guy that sat next to my wife and I had a bag of merch and had been in line outside since 3

They really need to limit the number of posters per person.

Oh man I caught Ministry tonight with Melvins and COC (what a 1-2-3 punch!)
And Paul D'amour was KILLING IT, he definitely found a good match with Uncle Al
Paul definitely seemed to be enjoying himself and there were tons of TA members in attendance to support him.
Very cool.

Omaha was 1 poster per person as I understand it. It has varied by venue.

Yeah, it really seems to come down to the quality of the locals running the merch booth.
imo they should probably just pre-sell the posters with tickets, and save everyone the hassle.

Brilliant idea. Save everyone a LOT of trouble. I'll add that the artwork for this tour has been mostly terrible. Omaha and Chicago were good (fortunately for me). But there has been a lot of godawful garbage. Maybe the worst being the SF Chase Center artwork. That said, if I had the option when I bought a ticket, I would choose the poster every time.
Side note: Cleveland and Tampa both got amazing artwork.

Same, I'd even pay extra if they did a poster with your ticket.

Side note: Cleveland and Tampa both got amazing artwork.
|
Same, I'd even pay extra if they did a poster with your ticket.

Well, catch 22. If they let anyone with a ticket order a print in a stadium of 20,000 people, then they become less limited and therefor a less valuable investment. Then they don’t sell as many because you can’t make a profit. Then the poster game is over.
A thriving secondary market is the goal with collectibles these posters. I never bat an eyelash when TOOL raises the price of their merch every tour because I know people will pay WAY more and I’d rather see the band get a bigger cut. Tool has BY FAR the most expensive face value prices and they’re still selling 100 prints per min.
Personally I love the hype. Im not a flipper, or a trader even. I’ve just been buying show posters since 2007 and I kind of like what it’s turned into. For what once was an easy score I now show up early. I enjoy waiting in line with my friends and meeting other fans. I enjoy the random scramble. The rush. The extra effort and attention the band have been putting into it mirroring the growth in interest among the fans. They used to feel like postcards from a concert... now they feel like trophies.
I feel like there’s 2 solutions, if there even needs to be one.
My least favorite is the band ups the price of posters to $300. If that’s what people are willing to pay, then the band/artist should get the money and the serious collectors can have their game.
The other option that wouldn’t price out trophy collectors and flippers, but might help with the casual merch shoppers: offer the typical run of high-end limited art prints, but also offer some cheaper tour-long prints with maybe a few color variants that you wouldn’t know until you opened it or something. Print thousands of them.
I just imagine Adam reading all the insufferable hubbub going on in the poster community about how “the band needs to do something”... meanwhile remembering he and his wife’s prints sitting for sale on the website for MONTHS after the tours had ended.
I hope he whispers to himself “suck it, r-tards. Send more money.”

Simple solution - make posters included as part of VIP again. The very first Tool poster I got from a show was a hand-signed poster right in front of me from Adam. Only a handful of them. Crazy secondary market. They can still make some posters available to rank and file. Problem solved.

Sorry Tool, you drive Lamborghini's and Porsches - I don't really care about how much money you make off posters.
And besides - it can be a VIP and/limited in some other way

Got mine today. It was thru Amazon. It's ultra high quality but I feel like the print on the vinyl might be flawed. Just doesn't seem as detailed as what Adam showed us on Insta

I was in a record store last night and they had 10 of the boxsets in stock for $179.
Trippy to see a stack of those mother fuckers.
PS if there are any Alice in Chains fans here, DO NOT miss Cantrell's tour. Amazing!

I saw them and they may be a little faint and a LOT useless.
A hologram would have been way more interesting since the etchings are side down when playing.
They almost seem like an excuse to push it to 5 disc's.
Oh well.

I saw them and they may be a little faint and a LOT useless.
A hologram would have been way more interesting since the etchings are side down when playing.
They almost seem like an excuse to push it to 5 disc's.
Oh well.
I have heard that the sound is excellent

Yeah, the etchings are shit and really nothing like the promo images.
Still, the rest of the package is excellent, and most importantly sounds great!

Getting ready to cross off one of my biggest Tool bucket list items... a show over seas. My PTO got approved for May 8-14 with a possible extension into the following week. I’ve listed on British airways, booked 3 nights at the Moxy Heathrow, and bought a ticket for the second night of Tool @ O2. Looks like there are still plenty available for the first night, so I’ll play that one by ear if I get checked in and settled in time.
I’m over the moon and have nobody to tell, so here I am telling y’all. Here’s to number 19 and maybe 20. London or bust.

Fantastic! You will love the experience, I predict. And of course aim for multiple shows, if possible!

it's been awhile so thought i would throw in some food for thought!
Does Maynard want to be a front of the stage frontman again!?
there' a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW6_H53Iy4U
dinner on stage during the instrumental part of Descending
i find it just a bit distasteful (see what i did there!)looking for attention
while your bandmates are doing their part to keep fans involved in the Music .
Detracting and definitely Distracting
was it for a cheap laugh? at his bandmates expense? it may have been truly funny for a second
it did seem to go on and on (like im doing here)
Maybe Adam Danny and Justin were really in on this stunt?
if so what are they saying to their fans at this point?
Dont get me wrong, i'm a lifelong Tool fan, always will be, and i am forever grateful for their music
not about to stop being a fan either.
lately some of the stunts showing up on youtube are definitely thought provoking
mostly involving Maynard (playing Jenga) giving Danny a dildo for the gong hit etc...
and even more weird was Maynards performance of Vicarious at the San Jose show in 2019
where he performed the song ala Marilyn Monroe style (think Diamonds are a girl's best friend)
lying on his back at the front of the stage and waving his legs in the air while he (sang) the lyrics
Did he hate performing Vicarious?
In general, i welcome Maynards return to the front of the stage but not at the expense of his bandmates or Tool fans
I'd like to think im not turning into a curmudgeon at 61yo but Tool has been my soundtrack for the the better part of 40years, and one thing i have learned is to think for myself and to question authority. and i'm questioning these stunts Thoughts? anyway for those of you who read this entire rant, thank you for reading!
But this dinner stunt has me a bit disappointed really and i needed a place to vent . there you have it

End of tour prank. Nothing more.
These guys have a long history of taking the piss out of each other, it’s just not always visible.
I’d take it as a sign of Maynard enjoying the tour enough to have some fun and be a bit goofy.
I don’t think anyone in the band saw it as disrespectful.
