I tried to get on here the day of the show and after, but there must have been a server or domain issue, because the site was down (at least for me) for at least a week after this show.
Trips, you are correct sir. 3rd Eye was a brilliant opener, and I was pleased to see/hear Dr. Leary start up a Tool show again.
Although the set was a bit too familiar to the last 3 I've been to since 2006, I enjoyed the things they did change up. One being finally getting to experience Pushit live. Now if I could just get my ear drums draped in Eulogy and The Patient live, I would be complete :]
Other cool shit...
- The disco ball on Aenima. Top notch! The swirling effect was a nice touch. Let's see...
- Intension was a nice surprise, although it was slightly tarnished by a group of drunk idiots behind me who wouldn't shut the hell up while they played it.
- The time/tempo change on Schism was especially epic that night. I had seen them do that the last few shows, but that one was an especially intense build up.
- The lights and colors on Lateralus were freaking brilliant. I was pumped to see the lasers make a big appearance on that one too.
- Danny's drum solo for B'Boom was incredible.
- I know I'll be leaving other cool stuff out, but lastly..... GLITTER CANONS.... Never would I ever expect to see glitter shot out at a Tool show, but they did it, and it was cool as shit.
I dont know why I'm going to even post complaints (because any time you get to see Tool is a joyous & celebrated occasion) but this is the internet and what would the internet be without some griping?
Only complaints:
- The boys were a bit off. Rusty? Perhaps. It was the 2nd show in a while.
- Set list. Maybe its Maynard dictating what they play based on his aging vocal range, or maybe they just really love playing this batch of songs, but come on fellas, lets get some variety for my hard earned $60+
- Video screens. What was the deal with the displays being un-centered? It didnt take away from my enjoyment of the visuals, but it was a bit confusing why that wasn't addressed before they took the stage.
Overall, a great experience as always. Really grateful they got back out on the road.
