Was hoping for Jakob again, but probably for the best there's no support.
Wonder what that'll mean for run times, guess the ticketek site info is kiboshed now...

I don't think there will be a huge difference. The support act according to the timetable was going to be on quite early. Maybe Tool will start 20 minutes earlier or something.
I remember the 2007 Sydney Big Day Out sideshow at the Encent was billed as "An Evening with Tool" likewise, and JJJ made a big deal on the radio that afternoon about "get there early, no support, they're on stage at 7.30, they'll play for 3 hours..."
Nope, on stage at quarter to 9, standard 1 hour 45 minute 10,000 days tour set.
(Not that I was complaining, they fucking KILLED it that night...)
1) The "Think for yourself" vid comes on and those of us who knew what was coming got very excited. Got a copy of the setlist afterwards which said the setlist was supposed to be HOOKER*, VICARIOUS, SOBER*, (intro) SCHISM*, PUSHIT* (drum solo), INTERNSION, LATERALUS* (middle), |intermission|, dan solo, JAMBI, 46+2, AENEMA, STINKFIST*, (OPIATE ?)
The * represent extension parts in the song and Opiate is written at the bottom of the page in slightly smaller font. We didn't get Hooker, Sober or Opiate but these were instead replaced by Third Eye (having seen the others in Melbourne, we got the better show tonight by a mile).
2) Danny's intro to JAMBI was roughly 7 minutes in length. He plays with his new synth thingy for about 3 mins and then drums like a beast for another 3 or 4 mins. It's awesome.
3) The intro to SCHISM is that extended jam they have been doing for a number of years. Same as past shows etc.
4) Danny extends the middle part of PUSHIT by just a little bit. It's like the Salival version in the middle but the rest of the song is the Aenima version (if that makes sense).
5) Posters from other Tool shows were on sale for $250 but were $100 in Melbourne last week. The lady selling said "Sydney has a higher standard of living" which is how management justifies the inflated price. Signed Opiate anniversary copies were being sold for $1000, even though they were originally $150 on Toolband.
6) V.I.P. customers were told to meet at the doors at 3:30pm but Tool didn't turn up until about 4:45pm apparently. Soundcheck featured Vicarious, 46&2 and at least something else (maybe Stinkfist?) according to a security guard. He described MJK as "reclusive" in nature.
Overall, it was the best Tool show I have ever seen (11 and counting...)

2 great shows. Tonight was a good way to cap off my tour cycle - but I'm a little miffed that they've played 5 shows so far, I've seen three, and the 2 I didn't see were the 2 that had Opiate (it's Flood from 2011 tour all over again!)
But no real complaints. Solid shows, good times had by all. Of the ten shows I've seen, these two would be middle of the pack.
Syd 2nd night setlist:
Hooker with a Penis
Sober
Schism
Pushit
Intension
Lateralus
12:00min intermission
Danny on stage alone
Jambi
Forty Six & 2
Aenema
Stinkfist
both nights
Danny kills it
Justin interacts well with the crowd
Adam is absolutely calm and relaxed throughout (made me smile whenever he walked over to Justin or Danny)
Maynard is silouhette-ish
personally, i liked Fridays gig more. Prolly because of where we were sitting.

FYI, that was not the distributed Sydney setlist. That was a working copy from rehearsals in Melbourne. It must have still been in someone's pile of paper from rehearsals.
The show that was played on night 1 in Sydney was typed up as it was eventually played, and that's the only setlist that was printed there.
